I have just got an XP box to play with. One of the first things I did
notice, is that I can't see the registry remotely from my W2K box. I then
noticed I couldn't see the event logs either. Why is this? How can I setup
the XP box to see these remotely? The remote registry service is running,
and my account is in the local admins group on the XP box.

I am not 100% sure an older version of Windows such as 2k would be able to
manage a newer version of Windows' registry... however I can't really say
either way. All I can do is point you in the direction of this link and
hope it helps.

I am pretty sure you can edit the registry remotely for XP and 2000.

The XP ICF firewall [or another installed firewall] could possibly be
kicking in and blocking your attempt to access the registry via the network.

Also, RE: that registry key, did you look at that key locally to see whether
it's set correctly?

I assume your ID and password is set up correctly on the remote computer?
Can you open up a file share across the network with that account?

Information on the ICF firewall:
