Hey guys and gals, I'm thinking about downloading
PopupEliminator (by SurfSecret Software). I've heard good
things about it.

Looks like a good program to stop annoying and invasive
pop-ups, BUT...I want to make sure I'm not adding spyware
along with it. (Some programs that are suppose to protect
you from spyware, such as SpyBan, SpyHunter, SpyGone,
etc., actually PUT more spyware on your computer).

Call me paranoid but I just wanted to make sure.

Forget it, just get the Google Toolbar (free) if you use IE.

Please explain to me why I should "forget"
PopupEliminator. Is it because I have to pay for it? That
is not an issue as someone has offered to give it to me
for free.

Another question is: if I get the Google toolbar, will I
have the option of "turning" off the toolbar but keeping
the pop-up blocker that that Google toolbar comes with?

So you will pirate software? Are they giving up their license? There
probably is a reason they are giving it up? Then do what I did, stop
using IE, it is old and a security risk compared to Mozilla which has
builtin popup stopper and features IE will finally have when the service
pack comes out.

Yes.
Visit Google and read the FAQs.

Please answer my original question: Why should I forget
PopupEliminator in favor of Google's pop-up blocker that
comes with their toolbar? Because Google's is free and
PopupEliminator is not, or for some other reason, such as
PopupEliminator is not as good as Google's?

"Free to try; $19.95 to buy". Pay if you want but why? Many reviews love
the Google Searchbar including its search capabilities. I do not use the
Google Toolbar but recommend it to many clients.

Yes, Google is my #1 search engine (actually, 97% of the
times, I only use them).

That doesn't mean I want their toolbar! Just to get a free
pop-up blocker, I should get Google's toolbar? No thanks!

Now, if I get to keep the free pop-up blocker if I ditch
the toolbar, then I'm all for that.

I have never looked into PopupEliminator.

Here's an excellent test for whatever you choose, in the end:

GO here to check your popup blocker.
