I'm being prompted for my password every time I activate my OE email. This
is in spite of the fact that I've selected "Remember Password". What's up
with that?

If you're allowed to access the mailbox after you enter the correct
credentials, I'd say you've asked OE to memorize the wrong
information.

Is SP2 installed? Password for your OE identity or password for a mail
account?

Assuming the latter, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=264672.

No. I don't want to install SP2. Even though the password is correct and
the remember password button is selected, I'm always prompted to enter it.
It's pretty annoying.

Again, are you being asked for the password to open your identity or to
check your mail account?

KB264672 applies to OE in WinXP (SP1), as well.

email. Also prompts me for my newsgroup server password, again with the
"remember password" box checked.

Well, if http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=264672 (posted in my first
reply) doesn't fix it, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=815229.
