The last time I updated virus definitions on my computer, something was also
changed on my system. Now, everytime I tell Outlook Express to Synchronize,
it times out; it is unable to communicate with the server at my ISP. After
calling tech-support, I was told to disable both "Internet Security" and
"AntiVirus Auto-protect" whenever I want to send/receive mail. Isn't there
a way to configure Norton to recognize Outlook Express as having a need to
go to Internet on-the-fly? Thanks a lot.

Hi,

You didn't list what version of NIS you have but your Firewall shouldn't
be the problem.

NIS is your Firewall and it should show up in your Log if OE was asking
for access and wasn't getting it.
If not then set your Rules for OE to Log everything it does.
You shouldn't have to disable your Firewall for Email and it was STUPID
for anyone to suggest you should.

Your Anti-Virus maybe the problem depending on your ISP.

If Norton AV has Email Scanning Enabled you may have to disable the
Email part of the Anti-Virus only and Scan Attachments manually.
The rest of the AV should work normally and will be ok to leave on.
I had MSN and couldn't use that feature too but with most other ISP's it
works fine.

I don't know who your ISP is but to tell you to disable your Firewall
and AV tells me they don't know the first thing of what they are talking
about.

Keep your Firewall and AV active and just disable the Email Scanning
Feature.
