    - Port security manager panel ?? Why is there not a security panel for managing and opening ports? Unlike a firewall it would watch the programs and the loading of DLL files and scripting with in windows with rules. Ports left open are like doors left open in your home, Right? Or think of this one, you own a home and arrange the furniture, then go out for the evening and come home to find that someone had a key to you home and added some furniture that you have to remove. It would be nice to see a panel that would watch ports that are opened by unwanted programs. Also I think that in order for any program to open a port to the outside it should have a signed certificate in order to open a port, like a key. If you don't chat why should I leave that port open? If the door bell rings or the phone rings and you don't want to talk to anyone you don't answer right? If you where working on a photo or video editing would you want an internet window to pop up with ads - "thinking" you're not connected to the internet? How about gaming when a add pops up, not fun! This is why there has to be some sort of control over the doorways of your computer. There are a lot of open ports that I really don't need all the time. With a security panel you could open it and see what's open or maybe set rules for say when you're gaming to close off extra ports or just block off that spy wear you just got before you figure out how to remove it.     - Spyhunter by Enigma Software - crapware? I'm posting here because I'm not sure where else to post - I'm wondering about this Spyhunter program. I came across it while I was looking for a quick cheap malware scanner. It told me I have "seek seek", a homepage hijacker. I then found out that the downloaded program's a crippleware version, it scans but doesn't fix anything without boocoo bucks. The "bad" registry entry was at: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\interface\{57A0E747-3863-4D20-A811-950C84F1DB9B} regedit tells me that this key contains the data "IFlashAccessability". So, I continued my search, going on to the trusty old AdAware and SpyBot packages. I scanned with the latest versions - they found a bunch of bad cookies, but no "seek seek" or any other hijacker problem; no malware was found. I did a little research, and found cwshredder, recommended for removing CoolWebSearch, a nasty hijacker that possibly may be the parent of seek seek. It found nothing at all. I even tried the latest version of Hijack This; it didn't pick out the registry key that Spyhunter was worried about, although it doesn't like Microsoft Money or ATI's drivers at all..... After all this, I re-ran Spyhunter - and "seek seek" is still there. What's the deal? I can't find "seek seek" on any of the malware lists; none of the other packages have found anything remotely like it in my registry. I'm not normally a suspicious person, but.... is "seek seek" just a ploy to get me to buy Spyhunter? Or do I have a homepage hijacker? Any info would be appreciated!     - KB832894 won't stick on XP Pro For the last couple of weeks, my Automatic Updates have popped up to install KB832894. I allow it to install, but a few minutes later the icon pops up saying that I need to install it (as if I never did).     - Continued attacks I just reinstalled (clean install) Windows XP for the 5th time. Although I'm taking precautions, it appears that these are not enough, because everytime I connect to the Internet (particularly with Earthlink) I am hit by a particularly nasty virus (most recently all my profiles were completely corrupted). I will now wait until I receive my service pack CD's by mail. Two questions: Is it possible to be specifically targeted (although I can't possibly imagine why), how is this done, and how do I protect myself? Hi I have been having a hellish couple of days attempting to clean my computer of all the (expletive deleted) that my brother has succeeded in installing (adware, spyware, malware...) but I am encountering a recurring problem: Norton Antivirus refuses to run Autoprotect and quits if I try to run a scan or LiveUpdate. Also, something is triggering the execution of NOTEPAD.EXE constantly, but it only shows up in the Process window, not as a notepad window. Although I have succeeded in briefly halting this irritating state of events, it soon reverts to the old way. I ran a full scan in NAV when I got it running - it came up clean. But this morning, the problem has returned I have run AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy and HijackThis! to look for any suspicious stuff, deleted a load and it still won't fix it HELP ME! Please!     - need help in virus scanning Hi all. My ISP offers pop3 (or whatever its called)-But I hardly use the email account I have with them to access email. The email address that is linked to this account is on our web page. But I have not given that out to anyone. I have a yahoo address that I have on the business card if anyone wants to email us something. Anyways, I got an email in outlook express with this ISP address from someone else who has the same ISP address. I am afraid to open it.It has a paper clip next to it so I assume it is an attatchment. I right clicked on the properties and it is 36k in size. I did not open it but saved it to my desk top and rt-clicked on it to scan with avg. Nothing was found. Then I scanned it with an expired norton 2002 and nothing was found. Am I doing the right thing by scanning it this way and is it accurate and safe to open it since the results came back negative.     - home page gets switched Everytime I go on-line some "thing" I must have picked up on the net keeps changing my home page to res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213. No matter how many times I reset it, it changes it back the next time. I've done a virus search and spybot too. Nothing.     - How do i remove these popups This isnt the well known messenger pop ups, but after=20 downloading a program form this website: "http://www.personaltest.co.uk/? ref=3D&sw=3Dtest&id=3DWH3_1836003" thinking i could test my IQ i found out it was some dialer=20 thing at =A310 a min which i quickly went to remove. Anyway im not one for having a problem with spyware, and i=20 know how to remove every single piece i have come accross=20 but this thing is really a BIG pain and impossible to=20 remove. Everytime i open internet explorer or go to check my=20 hotmail or AOL email, i get 3 popup pages one is usually=20 that IQ page.. and another=20 is: "http://www.cybertrigger.co.uk/? ref=3D9999&sw=3Dfree&id=3DWH3_1836003" and another is some porn page. This constant pop up thing=20 is really a big pain for myself and the family. We have=20 already searched and done every possible virus check, we=20 normally use norton, and we have used Spy Bot search and=20 destroy 1.2, and spywareblaster, hijackthis, spyware=20 remover form bullsetsoft. These program sometimes do show=20 stuff up which i then remove, but they never manage to=20 remove this pop up pages and they keep coming back. Also there is nothing strange that can be seen on the add=20 remove programs list either. These website should really be reported for tricking=20 people into to thinking they are getting a benign IQ test=20 and instead getting some advanced worm or something that=20 is impossible to remove. I do know that if the time is set wrong (ie 12/1/2002) the
updates will not run. Check the date and time in windows,
or some times if the cmos battery is going out or you
resset the bios the time will be out of wack on the mother
board.
