I have had to reinstall WindowsXP with a disk containing only service pack
I.

So I have lost all my previous downloaded Microsoft upgrades including the
Service Pack II.

Can someone help me with the method of redownloading all the past upgrades I
had over the past 1.5 years?

Please help, Frank

If the missing upgrades are pre-SP1 then you don't need to worry about
them at all since service packs are cumulative. If they are post-SP1 and
pre-SP2, just get SP2 and install that and be happy (well, be happy if
installing SP2 doesn't do some obscure nasty thing to your system). The
last I heard, MS would even mail you a CD containing SP2 free for the
asking so you don't even have to download it if you are on a slow
connection.

Thank you. When I try to download Service Pack II, I get an error
"0x8007005" which evidently means I go to the Registry and allow certain
permissions, which I have done, but I still get this same error message! I
might have to get the disk from Microsoft after all.

Also, I have all the data from the previous crashed system on a back-up
streamer tape of about 1 week ago, so perhaps I could just restore all
relevant past downloads (including SP2), except I don't know what they are
called in Explorer. Would you know what these are? Would restoring the
"System State" help?
