I need to gain access to my Money 2001 that I have on an old computer but
have forgotten the password that I used back then. Is there any way I can
find out what my password was? Does anyone know what file the password is
kept in and if it's readable? Any help will be appreciated since it's very
important that I retrieve some information from that year which I did not
carry forward to the more current years. Thank you!

Tell us what the operating system was on the old computer,
and whether you ask about the computer access password,
the MS Money password, or both.

The operating system is windows 2000. I do not need a computer password to
access the files, all I need it the MS Money password. Thanks.

Well, I do not know that one, but given that
http://www.lostpassword.com/money.htm
says it needs to use dictionary etc. methods on Money
2002 and later but "instantly" recovers passwords for
Money 2001 I would guess that if you look around you
will find a freeware that can help you.
There are quite a few commercial tools you can find,
http://www.prosoft3d.com/passwordrecovery/ for example
is fairly vague but seems to say it will do anything.

Have to asked in the Money newsgroup as was suggested
in response for the other post you made ??

Thank you, I'll follow up with the link you gave me. As it's probably
obvious, I'm totally new to this site and didn't know what "money newsgroup"
the response was referring to. I now realize that I can access the newsgroup
from this site and will be following his suggestion later this evening.
Thanks again.

I was referring to the post by Malke to your earlier thread.
For you I have copied it below.
There appear to be two newsgroups on msnews.microsoft.com
i.e. microsoft.public.money and microsoft.public.moneycentral
I do not know how heavily used they are.

Here's a webpage that might help:

http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/167.aspx

You might get some help in the Money newsgroup, which is
microsoft.public.money.

BTW, I believe it is MS Money, not MSN Money.
