I have a couple of questions regarding sharing folders/files & printers in a
network behind a Linksys wireless router.

1. I do run personal firwall software on all the computers, but I have done
some tests with disabling the firewalls and trying some of the security
testers on the net (grc.com/symantech etc.) and they don't seem to see
anything even without a firewall. Is my router keeping me safe by itself and
can I share folders/printers without being worried?

2, When configuring my personal firewalls (ZA) is it ok to include the IP of
the router in the trusted zone (the Local IP)

Thanks

Wireless security is a whole nother ball of wax....are you at least forcing
128-bit WEP? It's not uncrackable, but is a lot better than nothing at all.

agreed. make sure you enable WEP and set those SSID's. otherwise guys like
me come by and get me some free internet access. :-)

also, don't be a dumb dumb. don't leave vendor default passwords and make
sure you update the fireware (if available) once in a while.

oh, then i don't think there is much for you to worry about. in that
environment, you are going to notice a guy in a parked car with an antenna
sticking out the top. just shoot him for tresspassing. :-)

it becomes an issue in metopolitan areas and especially apartment building
complexes. even with all the warnings, it's amazing how many people just
buy wireless stuff from BestBuy, take it home, plug it in and leave it as
is right out of box.

my other favorites are the ones that do read the manual and enable WEP, and
the access keys they come up with.

hmm.... okay, so that was an interesting security setup. ;-)
