How does one find out if there is a keylogger on ones system?

Very hard, but it depends on what kind it is. If it is software that logs
your keys, you can try and identify running services.

Some keylogers will be recognized by antivirus or similar software (but far
from all). If it is a hardware logger connected between your PC and
keyboard, then there is no way of detecting it (beside crawling under the
table and checking every time you get back to your computer).

Assuming you are talking about one of the keyloggers that
is installed by someone who had physical control of your
computer, you might be able to bring it out of stealth
mode.

I got this from a PC World or PC-something magazine: For
XPC Spy, for example, you would type Ctrl+Alt+X at the
same time. (Shut down any other programs you have running
before doing this or else risk bringing them out.) Or, go
to Start>Run> and type in "rx" in the Open Field.

Spector Pro 4: Ctrl+Alt+Shift S

Or, press Ctrl+Alt, or Ctrl+Shift+Alt, or similar
combinations until you get a keylogger out of stealth mode
or until you get sick of doing combinations, LOL.

Note: this won't work for those keyloggers where the
keystrokes are sent to someone elsewhere by email or
similar way.

I know some anti-malware programs scan for keyloggers, as
well.

SpyBot Search & Destroy.
http://www.safer-networking.org
Download the application, read the FAQ and documentation.
Install, update immediately - run a scan, all objects found highlighted
in red should be removed.
