Is-it some thing I can do to stop thoses "pops-up" to hit
my computer.

They hit you with hundred of "pops-up" and at the same
time they offer you to be able to stop them by buying
from them their software.

I feel that I am a "Blackmail" victim.

Is it somebody out there to tell me what to do to not
participate to that blackmail.

Thank you,

Percy

I have a NETGEAR RP114 router. Do I also need to use a
firewall to prevent popups?

Which is better the XP Pro firewall or the McaFee?

Will this degrade the performance at all ?

Thanks

If your Netgear [that is an excellent consumer firewall] is configured properly
you should not need another firewall though a personal firewall can give you an extra
margin of protection in that it can create outbounf firewall rules mapped to an
application [at least Kerio does]. Go to http://scan.sygatetech.com/ to double check
that your external ports are closed. You also may want to scan/clean your computer
for adware/malware with something like Spybot Search and Destroy which is a free
download. Finally install a pop up stopper. The new Google tool bar [beta 2.0] has a
built in pop up stopper that works extremely well in my opinion. --- Steve

The ZoneAlarm Pro firewall has a pop-up stopper but you can get the Google
toolbar pop-up stopper and Kerio firewall which are both free. Kerio will
provide outbound protection so that you know which application is connecting
to the Internet.

I would not let any McAfee product on my system due to resource consumption
and performance hit.

Kerio and Google toolbar have very little performance hit on my system.

If you mean a FR114P, you have a firewall right there.
