I am setting up a small Domain at home and have a couple questions
1. Can I set up a domain controller if I am pulling a DHCP address from my ISP or do I need a static address? I managed to set up a DC and got my XP and 2K boxes to authenticate to it but could not get anything resembling an internet connection. Inside my cable modem was fine. Could get to my media server, domain controller, shared folders, blah, blah, blah, but could not get past the modem. Finally took the DC offfline and created a simple workgroup. Clients' DNS and WINS was pointing to DC (which was running both). What did I do wrong
2. I have a couple extra PCs and am wondering if it would be possble (or a good idea, even) to set up a physical firewall between my modem and my router. Do I need a quick, powerful box to run just Win2k with a firewall on it? I have two candidates, one newer and faster and one a little older and slower. Will processor speed matter, ultimately? Is this even a good idea? Will having the firewall between the modem and router protect my PCs
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions
