I upgraded the service pack for XP last week. I notice
that there is now a Windows Firewall. Since I already
have the Blackice firewall as part of the service I get
from BT (ie the Netprotect service) should I switch off
the XP firewall. Do you get conflicts between firewalls
and could this explainn why having upgraded last week my
pc suddenly hangs on me when I am on broadband?

many thanks for any thoughts.

it should be disabled if you are already running a FIREWALL

it has been some time since i saw blackice (4 years) and last time i saw it
it wasn't reall a fully fledged firewall

neither is windows Firewall either but things change over 4 years,

ZoneAlarm is by far the firewall of choice, but yes disable windows firewall
i'm sure black ice is alot more informative.

It could be why your broadband is hanging but i wouldnt say it was, if it
was something to do with firewall conflict you would normally get an action
cancelled message in IE6 or a page cannot be displayed,

try it and see?
