I have a Toshiba Satellite 5105-S702 with Win XP Pro, IE6 & OE6.
How can I find out if my Internet Explorer 6/Outlook Express 6 has the"MS
Enhanced Cryptographic Provider", which provides 1024-bit key encryption, or
the "MS Base Cryptographic Provider", which offers 512-bit key encryption ?
Is there a particular file/folder to look for ?

Thank you

Thanks for your response.
Under Tools>Help>About Internet Explorer, it gives Cypher Strength : 128
bit, but that is not exactly what I am looking for.
I found a file named rsaenh.dll in Wndows/System 32. The description given
under the file properties is Microsoft Base Cryptographic Provider, Version
5.1.2518.0. So maybe that's the answer.

Is this related to the S/MIME question you asked? This might be a good
place to start for overview/how-to OE/PKI information:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/howto/pubkeyox.mspx

If you really want to know more about the MS Base and Enhanced CSPs
(probably more information than you want):

Thanks for the references.

Yes it is related to the S/MIME question.

I was in the process of enrolling for a digital ID at Verisign, where you
are given the option of selecting the Cryptographic Service from a list
which includes :

- MS Enhanced Cryptographic Provider v1.0
- MS Base Cryptographic Provider v1.0
- MS Strong Cryptographic Provider

By the way I decided not to complete the enrollment until I resolved this
question, and then I came across messages in various forums relating to spam
generated as a result of enrolling for a Verisign Digital ID. Anyway the
latter is a separate question which I intend to pose in a separate thread.
