Whenever I receive "bogus" security emails from Microsoft
(and there have been a barrage lately), I immediately
delete them from my "In" folder, then go and delete them
from my "Deleted" folder. My question is, do those emails
continue to reside somewhere on my system - and, if so,
how can I get rid of them permanently. If they're left to
remain there, can they do me any harm?

I'm using Windows 2000 and run Symantec's Norton Internet
Security 2003.

Once you empty your Deleted Items folder the e-mails are gone from your
system permanently.

Ahhh you know, Sjonia... that is not exactly correct. For
example, in Outlook 98.. right here on my work computer..
i can empty the dleted items, yes. Then I can click
Tools, Recover Deleted Items, and recover the deleted item
AFTER I've emptied the folder. In that dialog, there's a
purge items option... after you purge them, then they are
REALLY gone.
I know for a fact they are still there, because my Symatec
Corp. AV still finds them in the Information Store..
after the deleted items are emptied. Purging them clears
it up.
