Well, those numbers (size, date) do not match on a W2k3 (non R2) Sp1 DC
that I just checked, where there is 3rd def in "Category Strings" is given
as
AdministrativeServices_Help="Allows configuration of various system
component settings."
The size you state does match exactly the system.adm I find on a stand-alone
XP SP2 from its ServicePackFiles\i386 directory (which does have the def in
the strings section.
So all the system.adm files in the policies subfolders in SysVol are the
same,
i.e. incomplete?
Were it not for the odd coincidence (?) of size matching the XP SP2 version
I would just think your W2k3 copy was toasted, plain and simple.
On W2k3 Sp1 DC in the Sp1 uninstall dir there is (the preSp1 file)
1,509,468 mod dated March 25,3003 (i.e. initial release) i.e. at
Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$
and in the Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 there is (the Sp1 file)
of 1,764,476 bytes mod dated Feb 18, 2005
Just which one is found in a specific sysvol\<dom>\policies\<guid>\adm
seems to depend on whether any settings from the adm have been used
in that GPO
Does this give you some ideas where you could look on your system
for copies of the files, to see if it is only the one indicated policy where
the system.adm is "trashed" ??
