All,

I am trying to create a security checklist for e-mail clients, especially
for Outlook.

Does anyone has any ideas what should be included in that list??

Any input is appreciated!!

Thanks Stefan

You didn't try Google, did you?

Search for this:

http://www.google.com/search?q=microsoft+outlook+security+configuration

And get this:

You may want to look at some of the Knowledge Base articles about OESU
(Outlook Email Security Update) that are referenced below. I've cut and
paste some info from elsewhere. Hope this helps.

OESU is a software update for Outlook that provides additional levels of
protection against malicious e-mail messages. The update changes the way
that attachments are handled by Outlook, and the way that Outlook can be
controlled programmatically. OESU applies to Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000.
Subsequently, the OESU functionality has been designed into Service Packs 2
and 3 of Office 2000 and into Outlook 2002 and 2003. Here are some details
about the OESU releases and updates.

Outlook 98 June 2000 Update
The Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update was released on June 7, 2000. This
security update provides protection from many viruses, such as the ILOVEYOU
virus and the Melissa virus, as well as other viruses that spread through
e-mail, or worm viruses that can replicate through Outlook. For additional
information about the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update, click on Microsoft
Knowledge Base article 262617

Outlook 2000 June Update
The Outlook 2000 E-mail Security Update was also initially released in June,
2000. This security update provides protection from most viruses, such as
the ILOVEYOU virus and the Melissa virus, as well as other viruses that
spread through e-mail, or worm viruses that can replicate through Outlook.
For additional information about the Outlook 2000 E-mail Security Update,
click on Microsoft Knowledge Base article 262361

If you are using versions of Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 that need the OESU
patch as previously indicated in this article, you can download the OESU at
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Out2ksec.aspx . OESU
functionality has been designed into Service Packs 2 and 3 of Office 2000,
and into Outlook 2002 and 2003.

To read about other features included in Microsoft Outlook Express 6 that
are designed to protect you against viruses that may be transmitted through
e-mail messages, please read Microsoft Knowledge Base article 291387
