Hi,
I'm trying to take a web-based class. I can make it through several
pop-up windows but hit a wall at the one I really need. When I click on the
"Take a Lesson" button the window pops up, starts to load, and then the word
"Done" appears in the taskbar and a small white box with a little red x in it
shows up in the upper left-hand corner. That's it. No lesson to take. The
schools help desk assures me thyat all the programs and permissions I need
are installed and set.
I use XO with SP2 & IE6.
Does anybody have any ideas?

That should be XP, not XO.
Also, I get the same problem when trying to open internet greeting cards
such as those from Hallmark and American Greetings.

The applet that is trying to open itself in your web browser is most likely
written for the MSJava VM instead of the Sun Java VM. Several companies still
have not converted the transition of there web based java applets to work
within the Sun Java VM environment. This has been the case with numerous
realtime b2b web sites in the automotive industry. Check with the site
developers as to what version of JAVA the applet is developed for (Either
Microsoft Java or Sun Java). If the developer tells you that the applet
requires MSJava and it is still unavailable from the microsoft site, you can
download the Microsoft JAVA VM from the following web site -
