I have Window XP Pro installed on my machine. I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition but it tells me that it will only install client tools. And when I proceed I cannot access the local server to create databases
Why is this happening
Can any one help. I am very desperate

Here are the kind of things I get when I try to connect to Local

1. Local is not know to be runnin
2. A connection could not be established to loca
3. Reason : SQL server does not exist or access denied

Thanks

If it installs only client tools then you will need to install SQL server 2k
on another machine and connect to it from the Pro machine

Because SQL Server requires a *Server* operating system, not a
workstation OS. The client tools are *not* the SQL server, they are
simply client tools. It's not a security issue, follow up in the SQL
newsgroups. Be prepared to be told to read the manual though.

Note that you can install the Personal Edition (MSDE) on a
workstation, as well as the client tools to access a SQL server on a
server.

Also, Developer Edition will install on a workstation. This will let you
play with named instances, materialised views, log shipping, and other
stuff that comes with Enterprise Edition.

cheers,
Ross.
