 - Security Patch - September 2003 Since downloading the Sept 2003 patch I now receive a pop up box every time I log in = "Error occured" tehm message "Memory access violation in module kernal32 at XXXX:XXXXXXXX" (the Xs are numbers and differ each log in).  - windows NT 4.0 workstation log-in Hi Everyone. I just purchased a used computer that requires a windows log-in. It currently has the old users log-in id and asks for a password which I don't know and probably will not be able to get since I bought it from a computer auction center. Does anyone know how I can get in without the password? I would be willing to erase everything if that's what it takes and install an updated operating system such as windows 2000.  - "Memory Access Violation" at startup Greetings: I seek advice regarding a problem I'm getting when I turn on my machine...an HP pavilion 753n running XP HOME During the startup process a tile/window appears in the middle of the screen titled "Error Occurred" with the message "Memory Access Violation in module 32 at 3551:44151934". There are no options so I simply delete the window and my machine appears to loadup fine. The memory location changes at successive startups. I recently (within the past 2 weeks) went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the recommended fixes for my XP version. It may be coincidental but this "Error Occurred" pain/pane (sic)started post the MS installations..I really don't recall getting the problem prior to those downloads. Can anyone clue me in as to, "How come"? Supplemental question more geared to security possibly; my email vehicle is Microsoft Outlook. I've been getting lots of returned mail... that I never sent(!) showing addresses that look random collections of characters... does this smell like a virus, and can anyone suggest a solution?  - Need Help w/ Hotfix KB824146 I'm running Win XP Pro and have all critical updates installed. All but "KB824146", because when it is installed my computer keeps rebooting just before the login screen. I can boot in Safe Mode and uninstall it then my computer boots normally.  - MDAC 2.1 Critical Update I have been searching the newsgroup for info on critical updates errors and found a recent one on Media 7.1 I am running win 98 have been reminded for three days in a row to go to critical updates. It scans my system and is asking me to install an MDAC 2.1 security update. But, I don't get it. I have successfully installed it three times and I was wondering if the Critical Updates web site was working correctly?  - Updates gone wacko Has anyone else had this problem and if so how can I stop it. Auto update has worked fine until now but my problem is that whenever I get an update alert it insists on telling me that security update 811493 needs to be installed. This is even after it has been correctly installed (even Microsofts own install log says that it is correctly installed).The only advise I have had so far is to do with a problem when using A O L (which I do NOT have) Any help would be appreciated as it is driving me crazy.  - my password is getting hacked everyday :@ hey... someone keeps hacking my msn messenger, he gets my password somehow, and he keeps signing in under my name, and abuse and insualt all the ppl on my list, and try to do the same thing to me when i talk to him while he is on my account and im on my old account. he is also threttin me, and tellin me f i don't listen to him he'll destroy my computer, and im not sure f he can really do that or not. i would like u guys to find u a solution so i can get rid of him cause he can get my password no matter what i do or no matter what i change it to! it says that hotmail accounts are secure, but i can't c that, i mean the guy is breakin in my account everyday, he can c my e- mail, c my private stuff, insault my friends and relatives on my list!!! and i can't find a way to trace his ip, it sounds like he is sendin some mails to the password server, fool it and then get my password, I need a solution, a way to stop him!!!  - Is XP Firewall Effective? I have two computers at home that are connected to the internet with a D-Link router that has it's own Firewall. I am running Windows XP Home on the computers and use the firewall that comes with it. I have had several people tell me that the XP firewall is not very effective and that I should install something like Sygate or Zone Alarm.  - Outlook Express & Security Hello; I have just read,(outside these MS Newsgroups), one can initiate virus infection by just clicking on a piece of e- mail in Outlook Express...you do not have to open an attachment on some inbound e-mail, according to the article. I am a novice and could not follow the thread of the argument.Is this true? It sounds false to me from what I have learned in this security Newsgroup. Did I miss this warning? I admit being somewhat paranoid about viuses, and very paranoid about worms.  - email attachments I just started back using OE and and now have WindowsXP...And find that OE won't allow any attachment through on my email. Could someone tell me what to do that will stop it from deleting any attachment? I can't even get pictures from friends and relatives as it is now. The help area says to go into tools and click such and such but the only options on tools is the address book. Something needs to be changed here but I don't know what. Thanks for your help.  - Outlook xp ssl connection I'm running two computers side by side, one at a win 98/outlook 2000 level, the other at a win xp/outlook xp level. I'm trying to get my xp to send ssl (secure) email, but it won't go. I get an error message stating that my isp doesn't support ssl. I have the same setup (I think) and the same isp(s) running on the Outlook 2000 system, which works fine. The remaining one was From: jwttl(or similar). The Subject: was comprised of about 25 weird characters;(you often see these characters in foreign language, alphabets.) This message looked and smelled fishy, so I clicked on it to Delete it. And Poof!! A dialogue box popped up, asking me to select a country to download a Windows update. This is a virus/worm.  - want to increase PC security - clueless Hi I'm starting to do business with clients from my home computer and want to increase PC security and protection. My internet connection is very slow (have tried different servers), often seizes up or gets disconnected, and on a number of those occasions I've received a message "the port was disconnected by the remote computer". Does this mean I might already have a bug of some kind in my computer? If so, how do I get rid of it? I know I have a mcafee virus scanner when opening email attchments. I'm a little confused also about whether I need spyware/virus scanner hardware or software. I'm going to follow the msn 7 steps for increasing security for home users but not sure if that would get rid of an existing bug. Can anyone suggest any product I might need? Hi everyone,

I'm about to deploy a Trend InterScan Server between our Cisco PIX
firewall and SBS 2000 LAN to scan inbound/outbound HTTP/SMTP/FTP etc.

Most grateful if anyone with prior-knowledge can assist in suggesting
