I've scanned my system with the MBSA and it reports that it can not confirm
that the following updates are correctly installed:
MS02-055
MS02-008
MS03-008
MS03-030
yet when I go to the Microsoft Update site, it indicates there are no
critical updates required.

Is there some other way to verify if all critical updates have been
installed, and installed correctly. Or is this a flaw in the MBSA.

TIA
Bill Rothe

"Why am I getting conflicting results between MBSA and Windows Update?"

You can install the patches yourself by going to the microsoft
security site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security

All of them are there.

Only if you feel comfortable doing that and only after reading the
bulletin for each patch and understanding it.

You might want to check this group:

My favorite way to do this is to use HFNETCHK version 4.

This is available as a command line tool if you install HFNETCHK Pro from
www.shavlik.com. Since this is free for use with less than 50 machines, and
that applies to most of my clients, I use this.

The latest HFNETCHK gives a good deal more detail about what it is seeing in
these cases, which helps in interpreting the output. Read up in the
newsgroup Helper posted, as well--all of these items are rehashed regularly.

Hi Bill. MBSA uses Hfnetchk.exe to check for installed patches. See the link
below for FAQ and how to resolve issues like the one you are experiencing. Hope
it helps. --- Steve
