    - Deleting Archived Certificates from Users' My store on Workstations Hi, We have a piece of software that only checks for the existence of a certificate not whether it has been revoked or not. For this reason we would like to remove all of the archived certificates from the user My Store on workstations in the environment. The certs all had encryption set as a purpose so they have been archived and not deleted. I know that I can use a "certutil -delstore -user MY 999999999999999" command to remove individual certificates but I'm looking for a way to manage this across 5000 workstations.     - Live Communications Server 2005 - Web Access Having some problems with LCS 2005 web access whilst trialing it for production use. I'm getting an error 1 when logging on, and various websites have pointed towards a problem with the certificate. Now I'm not a big fan of certificates, and will admit to not knowing much about the implementation with Certificate Services in Svr 2003. I've requested a certificate from the CA with the name of the FQDN machine with web access installed on it.     - Local disk security What is best practice for security permissions on a 2003 web server's C drive? Here are my current security permissions after setting up a new web server and joined to domain Local Admin group - FC Creator Owner - FC Everyone - Special (default permissions) System - FC Users group - default permissions I have a D drive were inetpub has been configured with websites and the permissions are the same for this drive.     - Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services - Error Messages Two issues: 1. Under Enterprise PKI, the server shows "DeltaCRL Location #2" and "CDP Location #2" as Expired. All other locations show OK. Is there any way I can manually force the PKI to update/renew these CRLs? 2.     - EFS/DRA All, I could really use some help with this EFS/DRA stuff. One thing at a time I suppose. I have successfully published a DRA via Group Policy (Win2k3/AD). I created an encrypted file on an XP2 machine. When I click details of the encrypted file, I can see the DRA. Associated with the user is a Cert Thumbprint. I am logged onto a DC with the DRA user and when I open the Certificates snap-in for mmc, the under Personal --> Certificates, the cert is there (with the same Thumbprint). Likewise the same cert is listed under Active Directory User Object --> Certificates. However when I try to access the files on the XP machine from the DC (file share) it says access is denied. I am trying to test the data recovery agent before implementing EFS on my network. Did I miss a step? Possibly related or unrelated, I am also havinga problem with DC issued certs vs. self-signed certs. I was testing with QA and found that I needed to add his self-signed cert to the encrypted file so that he could view it. He has been autoenrolled for a efs cert (duplicate of Basic EFS) but it doesn't appear to be working. What did I miss here? Also, I have noticed that many users have been autoenrolled for the efs cert multiple times (viewing the Certification Authority --> Issued Certificates).     - Data File - lock issue I am an IT administrator for a company and we have issues with one of our Domain Controllers. It is a Dell Poweredge Serve - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1- We have a Data Drive (5 hard drives - raid 1 and 5 array's) - with data for all our departments - with file permissions. There are certain file(s) within a folder structure that we are unable to delete. It happens from time-to-time - Every few weeks I come accross a file/folder that we are unable to Delete, Rename or Cut. Does not seem to be a file permission issue as I have removed permissions on the file we are currently having problems with and put in Domain admin and administrator to full permissions and went to advance and made sure the admin is the owner as well. The message we are getting is as follows: Cannot Delete (Filename): It is being used by another person or program - I have already went to Manage and clicked on Open Files and Sessions to make sure it was not in use and it is not. I also went to McAfee 8.0 Console and exluded the whole directory its in and that did not help. There is really nothing else that I know of that is locking this file down - its really just a data server also being used as a DC.     - Verifying an account password without modyfying the last logon Is there a method of checking that a Windows Local or Domain account password matches a given password, without the account last logon date being modified?     - preventing information theft Hi, I want to make sure I don't miss something. Here is what I want to do; - Prevent any domain users to be able to copy any documents (or information) from the server (from mapped drive) to a removable disk, usb key, floppy, etc.... I know that even though it is doable they can still send by e-mail but I'm not there yet. For now we are in the process of disabling the burning feature of xp and software restrictions policies but to be able to prevent information theft the best way possible would be nice. I think there is a microsoft product that does that but can't remember which one. Any ideas would be appreciated. note ; sbs 2003 server with all workstations at XP sp2 or sp3.     - Hosting security At present we host our own web servers in a hosting centre. The web servers are on a workgroup with a Cisco firewall between them and the back-end database servers (SQL). Obivously only the database ports are open on this firewall. We are in the process of changing all our equipment and I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on 'best practise' for this sort of environment? From an admin sort of view, it would be easier if all on same domain and SCOM would work better that way but this would open up our SQL servers to possible attack.     - Templates not showing in Web enrollment I have a problem where I seem to add a template into the Certificate Templates folder on my Root CA but it doesnt show up on the web enrollment server. I have a theory that this might be becuase the Root CA is an Enterprise CA and the issuing server running web enrollment is a standalone CA. Setup this way for "security" reasons and i was lucky to inherit. Is this the reason? if so how do i get those templates copied over to the web enrollment server?     - Control time limit of cached credentials Hello, We have a few laptop users with logins to our AD domain. They are sometimes offsite for quite a while. Eventually, they can no longer log in with their domain credentials. Our help desk then has to walk them through setting up a local profile so they can work. Is there a way to set this so the credentials don't timeout? Or is there a way for them to be able to authenticate remotely to our domain? I already went down the route of using our VPN client but that is not supported. Any help would be appreciated. We'd prefer not to have to give these people local machine accounts.     - Client-Cert doesn't shown in selection when SSL-login Hi all! I have a client-certificate created with our CA on a windows2003 server standard edition with the "user-template". The problem is, that this certificate is not shown in the certificate-selection when i try to establish an SSL connection with client-auth. Cross posting from micorosft.public.security.crypto: I need to issue some certificates to my terminal servers so I can secure RDP sessions. I want to use the negotiate TLS and I want to get rid of the warning messages from the new RDP client. I've been having a difficult time issuing a certificate which will have all the names I need for a particular server. The default certificate only includes the FQDN of the server which is not too smart in my opinion because locally connected machines use the common or short name or ip address to connect up. From Exchange 2007 certificates I know that we need a SAN or subject alternative name to get these to authenticate correctly. I wanted to enter the dns entry for the server short name and the ip address if possible to the SAN. I can't get these issued correctly using the mmc console because it just streamlines the process and never asks me for the SAN entries. I've tried the command line certreq but that certificate always gets issued to the administrator and the terminal server won't allow me to use it! I don't have the IIS pages installed for security.     - Help----Permission problems I have a dedicated server on a rack with fasthosts running sql, mysql and access. My main database is access. I have just had a new section built to my site that uses sql. The problem is that ever now and then (sometimes twice a day sometimes twice a week) the site demands a username and password from new visitors. When I look at the server the permissions seem to have disappeared and I have to reapply permissions across the server. This is having serious consequences on my site which is regularly used. The problem has only started happening since I had the new site section built and sql installed. The sql is a shared version available though the hosts. The default domain policy's password policy has "enable reversible encrypted password" disabled and since there can be only one account policy per domain, this one takes precedence right? I found this though "To enable reversibly encrypted passwords for a specific user you can modify their User Properties -> Account options -> enable Store Password using Reversible Encryption. You must then reset their password." Does this work?
