Would appreciate advice regarding the best method to "turn
off" connection at end of use day. I have been turning off
my computer each evening when retiring. Is this
sufficient? Any helpful comments/suggestions would be
appreciated. Thanks!

What's the reason you want to do this? Cable connections are indeed always
on - and you're paying a flat rate for the connection. You can unplug the
cable, I suppose, but I'm not sure what this will actually accomplish.

There is no need to do such. Your concern is when your computer is turned
on. A firewall is needed. For home use cable I suggest you use a router
device such as those that Best Buy sells from Dlink, Netgear, Microsoft,
Linksys, etc. They can be bought for a s little as $20 after rebates and
will do an extremely good job protecting your computer from inbound
worm/hack attacks that would be one important part of a strategy to protect
your computer. See the links below for more information. --- Steve
