    - Block users from finding IP address using MSN Messenger Hello All, I have come to know that people talking to you on MSN Messenger can find out your IP address using netstat or a packet sniffing software. How can I block people from doing that ? My network setup is such that I have a router that is connected to a gateway and all our network clients are connected to the gateway. Although due to using NAT , individual users IP address is not exposed , but people can find out the router IP address and then do a whois to track the rest of the details. I have also SpywareBlaster so I tried to import the HOST file into SpywareBlaster but it comes up with a message that there is no HOST file to find. Do you know if it is because HOSTESS have it?     - Windows XP ICF & FTP Hi, I have Windows XP Professional and if I run Internet Connection Firewall (IFC) then I can not connect to any FTP server. So I must shut down IFC.     - Patches for MS03-035 through -037 won't install! Hopefully someone can help me with this. This relates to the above three patches, all of which are for Office 2000; I'm running it on Windows 98. I've never had any trouble installing Office-related patches before. However, instead of the patches seeking for the Office 2000 CD's on my CD-ROM drive (which I know they're supposed to do), only my floppy drive is searched.     - Cannot run commands I have a Win 2000(servers) XP (clients) network. We use a T1 line. During the day every other 15 minutes we cannot connect to the internet. If you keep trying for 2-3 minutes you will eventually access the site, no matter what website. While I can not access I try to run a command like Ipconfig, flush DNS, etc. and my computer cannot recognize the command. If I reboot the computer I am able to run commands and access the sites.     - Desktop.INI I recently started lookin through a bunch of files and noticed that a lot of programs, files, and folders have a desktop.ini file attached to them.     - Error 1721 - unable to install NIS'03 I continue to get the above error message (Error 1721) while attempting to download the new Norton (NIS) 2003. I have followed all instructed attempts to correct the problem - ie; clean boot, reinstall, unregister and reregister the MSI. I have even returned the new disc for another, all to no avail.     - MS0-039 install problem I rolled out the 039 patch to my NT 4 Terminal Servers over the weekend and all but one installed fine. The other pops up an access is denied error when it tries to copy over rpcss.exe file. I made sure the permissions were fine (logged in as domain / local admin) but I can't get past this error.     - Scanning for viruses When I run my Norton Internet Security, I cannot get the command to appear that tells me hte scan is running.     - BLINDED by unknown Virus (Important!) Somehow my computer got some kind of virus that is linked to the process "explorer.exe" The virus itself causes 100% of my CPU to be used up therefore causing it to run extremely slow if not at all. I was able to manage to get up the Windows Task Manager and when I saw that the problem seemed to be coming from "explorer.exe" I forced the process to "end task" Then my computer started to run at its normal rate again but I can't see any of the normal windows features such as my desktop icons, toolbars, Start Menu, etc. etc. I tried restarting and even turning off my computer but still the same thing occurs. I was able to get my internet service working by opening it via Windows Task Manager then I came here to post on the matter. If anyone can help me out in any way at all I would truely appreciate it. This computer is brand new and it would be a complete lose if I couldn't run it properly due to this error. So if anyone knows how I can get rid of whatever is causing the problem or how I can get it so that my desktop icons, toolbars, or anything else showing then it would mean a lot to me.     - .net messenger security update Since upgrading to messenger 6.0, I have been asked to upgrade it with a cecurity update everytime it is started. The message I get is: "Session Start (MSN - acec@shaw.ca:messenger@microsoft.com): Sun Sep 14 16:30:25 2003 .NET Messenger Service Staff: You are running a version of messenger that requires an immediate security update. Please visit (Link: http://messenger.msn.com/Help/Upgrades.aspx)http://messenger.msn.com/Help= /Upgrades.aspx to complete the update." =20 So, I click on the link and download the fix and the error message never goes away. I've done this more than a dozen times. As you can imagine, with all the reboots required to keep windows running, there is a lot of requests to download the fix. This is gettin annoying.     - Messenger Service Spam (advertising) Several months ago I started to get Messenger Service popups advertising different products. It is very annoying. In my effort to determine how I could stop these I read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article about this issue. As a result, I enabled the ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) as instructed in the Knowledge Base article. I do have XP with SP1. PROBLEM...I am still getting Messenger Spam...any advise from anyone on what I may be doing wrong. I do not want to be forced into buying s/w to block Messenger spam. Thanks. hotfixes and administrators hotfixes. Also do you know
where I can download these Administrator hotfixes?????
