Hi.
I discovered an account that had been set up on my comp without my
knowledge. It wasn't by myself or the other admin, and was known as ASP.net.
I deleted it immediately, but I am wondering if that has only been removed
from the surface and 'whoever' is still able to access my comp? I am running
XP, scan with Norton AV twice a week, and run ad-aware (lavasoft) at least
every 3rd day. I had Kazaa installed, but removed it and it's nasties about
5 days ago. I am on a cable connection. i am not very computer literate, so
if there is more info required, let me know.
Thanks,
Dee

I expect you installed .NET framework or an application you installed did
it.

It's nothing to worry about and that account appears on all my machines
here.

Do you remember the account name? and was it active?
If you posted the account name and operating system (XP
home or pro) it would help us help you.

better put it back quick! that account is installed by the .net framework
and is required for some functions to work. just because you don't know why
something is on your machine is not a reason to delete it. ask someone who
knows before you start deleting stuff.

It was named ASP.net and was active. I kinda freaked and
deleted it immediately. I do not recall installing any
programs lately, so that's why I was concerned. Even if
it is harmless, what is the point of it being installed?
Thanks again,
Dee

Put it back? How do I do that? I don't know how it got
there, so I wouldn't have the faintest where to start? I
deleted it because I thought that if I didn't install
anything, and it was there, then it was
something "scary". Totally naive question, but what is
the .net framework? This is why I came here, I am really
not litererate with all this stuff.
Thanks yet again.

the dot-net framework is microsoft's replacement for java, plus a bunch of
other old technologies of their own. it will install with some applications
and you can install it from windows update. i would go to add/remove
programs, find the entry for 'microsoft .net framework' and uninstall it,
then go back to windows update and reinstall it.

Hi

Unless you have installed and uses ASP.NET on your computer (not the
same as the .Net framework), deleting the ASPNET account is safe and
will not have any side effects.
