I took my computer to a local computer "fixer" to have
some work done on it. When I got it back, he had somehow
deleted my account profile, leaving only my 'guest'
profile. I now do not have any administative privleges,
and don't have a password reset disk. How do I completely
restart my computer so I can set up a new adminstrator
account?

PS- Nothing needs to be saved on my computer, so deleteing
all existing files is not an issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tony;
If you paid someone to fix it, take it back or at least get your money
back.

Clean Installation
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283673

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.

Have you called him to complain? If you have to do a full reinstall, I hope
you aren't going to pay him for the work he did - perhaps he can make it
right.

If you want to reinstall from scratch, just boot with your OS CD and
format/install.....

Jupiter-

Unfortunately, the tech shop that worked on my computer is
completely unwilling to admit that this had anything to do
with them. Any way, Is there a way to do it without the
Widows XP disc? I have no idea what I have done with the
actual disc (probably threw it away during a recent move).

Is there a way to do it without the OS disc? I think I

You'll need to buy one, then.

Can't you take the computer back in and show him that your login account is
just plain gone?

I'd pursue this route.

They should at least be willing to reload and make it right.

If Windows XP is retail, contact Microsoft for a replacement:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326246
If Windows XP is OEM, the seller is the source since Microsoft can not
help with OEM.

Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Log in as Administrator.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
From there you can create/modify accounts.

Hi

You should still have the "Administrator" user available.

How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your Password or Your Password
Expires
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;321305

From the article above:

<quote>
Note You cannot log on as usual by using the Administrator or Computer
Administrator account to a Windows XP Home Edition-based computer or a Windows
XP Professional-based computer in a workgroup. To log on as the Administrator
or Computer Administrator, you must start Windows XP in Safe Mode. For
additional information, see the "Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP
Professional in a Workgroup" section of this article.
</quote>

Try to logon with a blank password. If that doesn't work out, you might try to
reset the local Administrator password with one of the methods mentioned here
(you will need to have another computer with Internet access available):
