I have a problem decrypting files that were decrypted in
XP Pro using the properties dialog box. I have searched
the KB and cannot find a solution except for Win2000
systems (264064). I followed the instructions and it did
NOT work

I have found the cert for "Encrpting File System" in IE
Certificates tab. EVERYTHING is checked (except Client
Authentication and Secure Email)

I believe I'm the owner of the files (not certain how to
verify this)

I've searched hi and low for an answer and still can't
decrpyt these files.

HELP!

TIA
MM

If you reset your password in Computer Management instead of using
CRT-ALT-DELETE [you could try changing it to an old password], that may be the
problem or if you have reinstalled the operating system. The associated EFS private
key for the certificate must also be on the computer - the certificate will tell you
that on the first/general page. You can use the efsinfo utility to find out who can
decrypt the files and match certificate thumbprints if necessary. --- Steve

You can download Efsinfo. There is the possibility that your EFS private key is
corrupt which is why it is always recommended to export and save a copy of it. You
might try to use cipher command to decrypt files [built in]. You also need at least
list/read/execute ntfs permissions to the folder/files to be able to
ncrytp/decrypt. --- Steve
