1. its a lot of code
2. there are lots of targets configured all sorts of different ways
3. there are lots of attackers trying to find them

1. Windows is exceptionally large.
2. New technology brings to light previously unnoticed flaws or
simply creates them.
3. More people use it, there more hackers get more bang for the buck
when an exploit is used.

Windows XP is >2 years old, fairly old for technology of this kind.
That fact alone and the idea that it has taken a few years for some of
the flaws to be discovered says a lot.
As much as they try, Microsoft can not run enough tests to see what an
OS will react on a limitless variety of computers.
No two computers are exactly alike.

The same reason the automobile industry doesn't make cars that will last for
50 years. If they did, then you won't buy their next piece of sh*t.

Same reason there are so many security vulnerabilities in your house.
Ease of use. Burglars can break windows, so if you wanted a secure
home you'd naturally design it without windows. You wouldn't be able
to see out, but isn't that a minor convenience to sacrifice for
perfect security...?

I think the question is why jerks want to ruin everything. Whether it's the
internet, public property, or your house. It's a social problem and everyone
pays the price. I get as frustrated as anyone else but we learn to adapt.
