    - Studio Auto-Assigns DataSet Fields that are Wrong Our architecture has a single gateway sproc which returns different table structures based on inputs to the sproc. In a single report, we use two calls (with different parameters) to this sproc for two separate DataSets. When the DataSets are tested, they return very different table structures (fields). However, when Studio creates the Fields menu for both of these (and it does this when the sproc is run), all it sees is that the two DataSets use the same sproc. It forces the field assignments to be identical, despite the fact that it knows very well from running the sproc for the DataSets return structures that are very different for each DataSet. We can solve this issue by crushing the Field list for each DataSet and manually setting up the right assignements, but this leaves a potential landmine for each person working with the reports. If they click "Refresh Fields", the whole thing gets hosed and manual reassignment is again necessary. Is this considered a bug? Tag: word wrap Tag: 11704

    - Custom Assembly not Executing I have both a custom assembly and a data processing extension. The DPE I have successfully integrated into RS. But, I have written a custom assembly that I use for creating a barcode image. I run it fine in ReportDesigner and believe I have given it and the Barcode.dll (3rd party) "FullTrust" in the rssrvpolicy.config file. The problem is when I run I do not even get an error. I integrated the EventLog to try to trace the problem but it never gets called by Reporting Services and just renders the image empty. If anyone has any suggestions on this I would greatly appreciate it. I have a custom assembly that uses a 3rd party (Pegasus SmartExpress Barcode) dll. I can execute perfectly in VS.Net design mode.     - Combining reports into a single PDF My company has spent the last few months developing a set of complex financial reports using RS. The goal has always been to package them into a single PDF, with different users receiving customized versions of each report (eg, everyone in NY gets #s for the NY office). We've just learned that if we combine the reports as subreports, we lose the page headers and footers, and landscape and portrait reports cannot be combined. But we still have to deliver the package somehow. Does anyone have an recommendations? We're looking at: -Putting the page footers and headers in the report body some way. -Writing an app to automate Adobe distiller and build the packages ourselves (but we lose the RS delivery functionality) -Leaving the reports as separate PDFs, and writing an app that will print them all, creating the appearance of a single package at least when printed.     - Total for filtered list I have a report that has two lists. One is embedded in the other list. The outter list has a filter on it to pull hourly employees. The inner list is a detail list to show the hourly employees and their hours, grouped by employee. The detail shows a sum of the different types of hours worked within a date range. The date range is pulled by parameters. I have a total box in the outter list, under the detail list, for total hours. When I run the report the total is for all hours regardless if the employee is hourly or not.     - Role Assignment without using Report Manager Hello, I'm having some problems using the Report Manager, but I *really* need to make a role assignment now. Can't wait to have the problem with Report Manager solved. So, I would like to make this role assignment directly in the ReportServer database, using the SP SetPolicy or some other SP.     - Organizing reports I am posting this question a second time to see if I get some help. We have been using reporting services for several months now and have been struggling with how to organize our reports within projects. In the end we will have 200 or so reports so we figured that putting them in 1 project would get pretty ugly. However by putting reports in multiple projects I am finding some limitations. 1. We have to recreate our shared data sources in each project. 2. We can't share sub reports across multiple projects. I am starting to wonder if we should just put all 200+ reports in 1 project.     - Navigating to another report... I want my end user to be able to click on a textbox in a report and be redirected to a second report. The second report has parameters but here's the catch. I don't want to do a drill-through type set up. I don't want to specify either default parameters in the second report nor do I want or need to pass values to the paramaters from the first report.     - showing/hiding charts I'm creating a report that shows telecommunication totals for 5 companies. I need to display a chart for each company when the user clicks on the company name which is located in a group section in a table. I know I need to use the Visibility.Hidden property somehow but I don't know where to put it or how to make the logic work. I'm pretty new at reporting services so my know-how is limited.     - Uncontrollable Table Row Widths A table in my report has 2 parent group rows & 2 subreports w/in the body. No matter what I try, I cannot prevent the right margin from bleeding past the page width and generating an extra blank page for every one of text - in pdf, print preview, print, whatever. The only tips I've seen pound us with page width >= body + left margin + right margin. I've tried dozens of crazy adjustment suggestions - body area that is less/equal/more than report width, subreports more narrow/same size/wider than allocated body area, adding blank columns left & right of table "meat", drawing rectangles around report bands... The problem seems to be that, while I can get the subreports to line up close to my right margin, the parent headers and footers shoot out to the right - like tables w/ width=100% w/in rows of an html table.     - Install Woes We have a Win 2003 EE Server running SQL 2000 SP3a and the latest hot fixes. We are not running Sharepoint Services. Every time I install on the server I get a message at the end of the install it couldn't activate the product. So I read in the manual how to activate the product, and it says its already active. I try to access the reports website and get directed to the http://myServer/Reports/Pages/Folders.aspx and get a The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found. and a link to Home. I click home, takes me to the same error. The files are all there under that sub web, verified that. Cannot figure out why this isn't working, anyone else ran into this problem?     - Installation Issue I have a test server that is a domain controller. It is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. Running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise with SP3a and hotfix 859. I installed Reporting Services successfully. Due to machine configuration changes, I uninstalled reporting services. I have not been able to put it back on - its really strange - I get the dialog box that says it successfully installed the SQL Server Reporting Services Setup Support Files. When I click the Next button nothing happens. If I reboot the machine and log back in as Administrator, I get the Error Report dialog: SQL Server Setup encountered an error and needed to close. Of course, I choose "Send" to send the error report. What I would like to do is generate an install log, to see why it is dying.     - Scroll bar does not display if all report parameters cannot display on web page If a persons resolution does not allow all the report parameters to display in IE on the web page for the report, no scroll bars show up and you cannot run the report.     - Custom Assembly When I execute my report on my web server, I can see the data that requires a query to the custom assembly. I have got "#Error". When I execute my report in the Preview window my date is present. My Assembly is reference to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\MyAssembly.dll is defined on My Reports I put my custom Assembly in the forlder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Report Designer and in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer.     - Using RunningTotal function in a line graph. Greetings, I need to make a line graph that has running total data points for each month. In my table I am able to use the expression =RunningValue(Fields!Commitment.Value,sum,nothing) and it works fine and gives the desired result.     - Problem with RepeatWith to display watermark on each page. I have encountered a problem where repeated items are only rendered to the first page. Apparently this is a known issue, but the workaround of using the page header doesn't work for me, unless I'm missing some way to overlap the header and the body of the report. I am trying to display a watermark behind the body of the report in a very pale font, and controlling whether it is hidden via logic in the report. To do this I used a texbox in the body of the report, allowing the following table to overlap the watermark textbox. I also set RepeatWith to repeat on the table it overlaps. This previewed fine on Page 1, but not on subsequent pages. I have tried putting the watermark textbox on a page header, table header etc but could not make it overlap with the table in the body of the report, even using rectangles etc. I would appreciate any suggestions.     - C# Front end for MRS Hi I'm a complete newbie to C# and Rep Services, however i have a report running on my localhost via a Web application created in C#. All fairly simple stuff so far.     - Displaying data from multiple datasets in the same table I have two datasets, the first one attached to a table, and I would like to display a field from the second dataset based on a criteria. Think as an analogy to joins, but for various reasons I cannot merge the queries to get a single dataset (data is coming from different databases).     - Instance Based Custom Assembly problem Hi, I have a simple instance based custom assembly in VB.Net that simply increments a counter and returns the value. I have referenced the assembly in my report and specified the instance name, e.g. MyInst and the method ShowInc. When I use the expression Code.MyInst.ShowInc in a table the values returned are increased as expected. But when I call this code in the Page Header I get a the same value in each page, i.e. 1. Is a new object being instantiated at every page? Why? Is there a workaround? What I realy want is the custom assembly to access a database and return some report header information which I want to display in the page header. But I want this to be efficient and access the db once instead of every page. Thus subsequent calls would check that the value stored in a private variable is there and return it directly.     - How to create a Line Graph with 2 Lines ? Line Graph : My requirement is to create a chart that shows 2 employee-career lines. One is Titles and the other is Salary. This means there should be 2 lines , one is a line that shows how the titles of the employee changed. The other is the salary line that will show how the salary for the employee changed. I have to show the 2 lines in the same chart. The X-axis will show the date/time. Tools menu -> Options menu item -> Send tab. Check out "HTML Settings"...
and "Plain Text Settings"... buttons.
