Damaged PDF files
Hi,
I have created a web application with ASP.Net 2.0. I also have created a
report using Reporting Services 2005. After showing the report on the
screen, I give the suer the possibility to export to report. One of the
possibilities is PDF. Now we have some troubles with this export.
On some PC's after saving or opening the PDF we got the message :
"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could
not be repaired"
It only appears on some PC's, on other PC's exporting the same documents
works fine. It also didn't have any effect on the version of Acrobat. The
problems comes with Acro v 5, 7 and 8. Even after upgrading, deinstalling,
rebooting, installing a newer version the problem still exists on those PC's.
So I hope that someone have a solution for this as we don't know if it's a
problem with reporting services or with acrobat.

Customizing report columns count at runtime
Hello all. In my application I have some rdl file that determines
general look of my report. Also I have a table that has 20 columns I
have stored proc that returns dataset that also has 20 columns but may
have filled less than 20 columns (5 for example). The problem is how
to hide another (20-n) columns.
Now I simply pass params to report and hide columns according to these
params. In this case I have normally rendered report on screen and I'm
experiencing problems with printing: I have my "n" columns printed
normally then long space and table end line ( in another printed
page ) what looks ugly.
So my question is: can I dynamically manage columns count ( without
having to generate rdl programatically :) ), for example pass report
param "ColumnsCount" and then have so much columns as I want (also
apply binding values for these columns)
or
is there a method how to hide my (20-n) columns and minimize table so
I do not have that big white space and ugly line after it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance Tag: recursive / use in report Tag: 68801
Resume shared schedules
Hi,
When I have paused a shared schedule in Reporting Services 2005 with SP2
(version: 9.00.3152.00 ) I cannot resume it again. It will remain in status
"Paused". This applies for all of my shared schedules.
Someone who have recognized this behaviour and/or does anyone have any ideas
about it?

Converting 2000 rdl files to 2005
Hi, how do I go about converting 2000 rdl files to 2005 format?
I have searched on the web and people recommend opening up the
existing rdl files in report designer or create a new microsoft report
project from visual studio 2005.
My problem is that when I open up the rdl files in 2005 I just have
the XML contents and no designer support. Also, I looked to create a
new report project from the File-->New-->Project prompt in VS2005 but
I do not have a Report Project available to me...
I'm probably missing something basic here so any help appreciated :)

I have a data field called RunStatus that I place into a hidden textbox on my

Gantt charts?
I have a table with start and end dates for useage of an asset and would
like to generate a sort of gantt chart for a date range. ie a horizontal
bar graph like Microsoft Project with the assests down the left-hand-side
and dates along the top.
Is this possible with SSRS? I feel like I have read about RS features that
would assist with this but can not now find an example.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Controlling the freeze pane location in Reporting Services
So I have a report that has a header, and in the body there is a
table. The table has a heading row. When I export this report to
excel, the freeze pane is put under the header.
Is there a way to specify the location of the freeze pane when the
report is exported to excel? I would like to have the freeze pane
directly below the column header row.
One possible solution I thought of was to put the column header row
into the actual header, but I can't do that as right above the column
header row is a summary of the data in the table. This summary
references fields from my datasets. And anything that references a
field cannot be put in the header row.

Passing multi-select params to a stored procedure
i've already read the MS help file saying this can't be done, but there are
lots of people out there smarter than MS. Has anyone come up with a way to
take a multiple select paramter and pass it into a stored procedure yet? I
noticed there is a built in function string.join which concatonates the
parameters you've chosen, so I'm curious why you could'nt just pass that
string into an "IN" clause. Anyway, let me know if you've got a work around
for this, I'd appreciate it.

Winforms viewer - "InteractiveSize" not respected, still shows print
I am having an issue with the winforms viewer where it always shows the
report in full print width (8.5" for this report) regardless of the
"InteractiveSize" property.
- The report itself is 7" wide in the designer
- .75 margins on each side.
- "InteractiveSize" is set to "7in, 11in"
In render it shows the report aligned to the left, with 1.5 inches of
space on the right (approx.), and a scrollbar at the bottom. It seems
to know how wide the report _should_ be, and makes the window wide
enough to fit just that, but then somehow expands the viewing area to
the full page size.
I an get around this in display by setting the "PageSize" to "7in, 11in"
but this causes it to print wrong.
Is there any way to get around this, even manually? I can't find a way
to extract the InteractiveSize from the report using the LocalReport
object, and no way to change anything related (at least obviously) to
this in the viewer itself.

Dataset Run finds 24 results, Preview displays 1 results
Hello All,
I am a newbie here coming from a Crystal development background and
intermediate skills with SQL. I seem to have various issues creating
all sorts of RS reports. I'm trying to start with "more modest"
reports to ease myself into the groove of using RS, but some things
that seem simple stump me.
I have a simple query that brings back 24 results. I used the wizard
to create a simple layout using 1 group (I expect 12 "subsections" by
using this group) with the details displayed under each group.
For whatever odd reason, even tho' running the query finds the 24
results, the Preview shows 1 result. I even removed the group and ran
all the details (tried refreshing) and only 1 result again.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance

Changing order of columns at run time
Here's the scenario:
I want to be able to create a report (typically these reports are
"table like" reports ... in other words, several columns with a list
of data underneath) and I want to be able to re-order the columns (not
the rows) in these reports at runtime.
So, for instance, if the "report design" is as follows:
COLUMNA COLUMNB COLUMNC
... data goes here ...
... I'd like to be able to pass a parameter in to the report that may
be, for instance, "COLUMNC,COLUMNB,COLUMNA" ... and report columns
would re-order, like follows:
COLUMNC COLUMNB COLUMNA
... data goes here ...
... I don't really care what report designer object is used (Table,
Matrix, etc) ... but I don't yet see a good way to do this. It seems
like the Matrix object might be able to do this via the ColumnGroups
"Sorting" tab ... but I don't seem to be able to come up with an
expression that can make this occur.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

How to organize reports without duplicating data sources
Hi,
I need to have a few folders in a reporting system to organise my

The only solution I can see is to make a separate Visual Studio

actually promote reuse. Is there any better way?

I keep getting this error when trying to preview the report:
[rsCompilerErrorInCode] There is an error on line 1 of custom code:

Anyone have any idea what I'm missing here? Is there some mundane
detail I'm overlooking?

reporting services (client or server) ad-hoc user created reports?
Hi,
I would like to allow my users to create report templates and save them.
The reports should get their data from my business objects. I'm not really
sure where to begin with this.. I image that i'll need to setup reporting
services.
Currently I have rdlc client reports and report viewer. I don't mind moving
to server reports if required, but i'd like to continue to use the viewer to
display them in my application.
Has anyone else done this?
Thanks

report model project question
I am having a problem trying to get the correct data on the report.
It is a typical schema where we have clients, doctors and both of those have
doctors. I am unable to show clients, client addresses and doctors on the
same report builder report. I can get 2 of those not 3.
any ideas? (is this a limitation of the product?) Tag: recursive / use in report Tag: 68659
Export to PDF Different!?
I am having problems with my matrix that is embedded in a list. I used a
workaround to create a horizontal table (matrix + list). Now, when i run my
report, the row sizes of the matrix always shrink, even if i put CanGrow and
CanShrink to false.
So now, i haev set CanGrow to true, and have aligned other fields
(textboxes) to line up with their corresponding rows. It looks "decent" when
i run the report on the report server, but when i click export to pdf, all
the textboxes are shifted up and are no longer lined up. Does this happen to
anyone else, and is this a known issue (differences in rendering between the
report server and exporting) ?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Filter problem
I have a report that compares estimated commission to written (actual,
invoiced) commission. I want to filter out records where the
difference between estimated and written is within 10% of the
estimated commission...in other words, if they were close, I don't
need to see it.
I am having a heck of a time writing this filter. I have tried a
simple comparison such as
Expression
=Math.Abs(Fields!Difference.Value)
Operator
>=
Value
=((Fields!Est__Commission.Value) * 0.1)
Which returns the following error:
"An Error has occurred during report processing. The processing of
filter expression for the table 'table1' cannot be performed. THe
comparison failed. Please check the data typ returned by filter
expression"
I have also tried
Expression
=((Math.Abs(Fields!Difference.Value))>=((Fields!Est__Commission.Value)
* 0.1))
Operator
=
Value
=TRUE
Which returns
"An error has occurred during report processing. Fail to evaluate
FilterExpression/FilterValues."
I am obviously having some sort of data conversion problem, but I am
not sure where to begin. The actual values of estimated and written
commission are store as varchar in the database, and the 'Difference'
field is a calculated field of written - estimated. I have tried using
a CAST command in my Dataset to convert these values to numerics, but
it does not appear to be helping.
Any insight appreciated!! :-) Tag: recursive / use in report Tag: 68651
