    - Back call without drillthrough report ASP.Net 2.0 Web app with ReportViewer Control. I have a basic report that has a link to another report. The first report loads OK then I click the link then the second report loads OK. But when I then hit the back button (the back arrow in the Reportviewer Control) I get Back call without drillthrough report?     - Hide blank page when exporting data I thought that I had come across a question referring to this problem before, but I can't seem to find it. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I'm using the Reporting Services 2005 add-in for Sharepoint. I want the user to be able to export to PDF, but I don't want the blank browser page to pop up - or I want to be able to close it automatically. Is there a way to accomplish this?     - security problem on .NET Apps calling Reporting Service Web Service I installed sql 2005, and RS on my windows xp machine. I also have a .NET web applications calling the RS web service. When I run the app from http://localhost/MyApp/PageCallingRS.aspx, it's not working. So I added mymachince\ASPNET as a user (content manager) for RS, it worked. Now I deployed my app to a web server on the network. I tried to run the app from my browser, i.e. http://webserver/MyApp/PageCallingRS.aspx, it gives me the following error: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at ... The IIS for the Virtual directory of MyApp on the web server is setup to allow anonymous access. I tried the following but all failed: 1. I tried to add webserver\ASPNET to RS (user not recognized). 2. Disable anonymous access to the directory from IIS, and added the domain account of the web server as a user into RS, and set the impersonate mode on for my web app. still not working My questions are: 1.     - BUG Multi-value field in SP2 Hi, There seems to be a bug with the multi-valed fields when only one value is selected and that value contains only spaces. I get the message 'Please select a value for the parameter...'. It works when I test it in Visual Studio but it doesn't work on the Web. I'm using SQL Server 2005 with SP2. Any ideas ? Suggestions ?     - Problem with parameter default when redeploying report I've written a rss script file to automate publishing of reports to our server. I've encountered a problem when republishing reports that have a default value set for a parameter. If I change the default value of the parameter in the report rdl and then try to republish, that parameter's default value is not getting changed on the server. If I add or remove parameters then the server gets updated correctly. It's only if I change the default value that the update is not happening. I've tried with both the CreateReport and SetReportDefinition functions. The only way I've gotten this to work is to delete the report and then republish but this is not an acceptable solution because it also deletes report history and subscriptions. I'm using RS2005.     - Three Tier - Call to reporting services? If I install reporting services on my database server, can my developers make a call to it using web services? I have a front-end web server with a firewall separating it and the web services machine and the database server. I would like for the applications to make a call for the reports from the web server to the web services machine and then that machine make the call to reporting services then then that get passed back to the front-end web server. Is this possible without opening up the database server to anything but the web services machine?     - Trouble setting up reportservices I'm having issues getting report services to work (2005). I've tried on both a Vista and an XP SP2 machine. I'm using SQL Server 2005 Dev ed. Basically on both machines I have got to the point where if I browse for http://localhost/ReportServer all I see is localhost/ReportServer - / Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00 I get no error messages just what appears to be a fairly blank page.     - Passing Metadata for Data Source Views Is there any way to store the Description and Friendly Name in the SQL Database design so that it will pass through to the Data Source View. I'm dealing with a LOT of tables and this would sure make life easier as I create the different views that are needed for the 18+ applications I have to create for?     - Create a dataset FROM the output of a Visual Studio report I'd like to use Visual Studio to actually create an output file which I will then use as an input dataset to generate various reports. The "output" need to be dynamically grouped with several calculations at the grouping level. Visual Studio gives me the flexibility to accomplish the logic all in one place. (The logic was formerly accomplished by a series of ACCESS queries) Does anyone know if this is possible, and how I might go about it? (I know how to set up the grouping and the calculations.)     - How do I add a new column to an existing Data Source View in SSRS? I've got a table in my Data Source View that is one of our central entity tables in our warehouse, and there are LOTS of relationship lines (Roles) linking to this table. We've just added 6 new columns to this table, and I need to add them to the Data Source View so the new columns will be available to the end users running Report Builder. I am pulling my hair out trying to find the option to add the new columns!     - Nulls -conditional display of value in Visual Studio I am trying to display one of 2 values based on an input parameter. I have created a field which is supposed to evaluate the parameter and display the appropriate field. My code is as follows: =iif( Parameters!LastWeek.Value = "Y", Fields!Measures_M30N_MTD_Last_Week_of_Month.Value, Fields!Measures_M9N_MTD.Value) When I preview my report and select "Y" as the parameter, my field displays nothing. I have checked the data and know there is a value in the field represented by the "true" portion of my statement. If I change the staement to this:=iif( Parameters!LastWeek.Value = "Y", Fields!Measures_M30N_MTD_Last_Week_of_Month.Value, 0) I actually get the value I am expecting. My conclusion is the data in the "false" portion of the statement is actually null or non-existant. I think this is causing my statement to malfunction. How do I account for this and make my statement work properly? There will eventually be data in the field represented in the "false" portion of the statement.     - Can't run rskeymgmt after SP2 After installing SP2 for SQL 2005 I can no longer run rskeymgmt. I was trying to backup the encryption key (rskeymgmt -e -fc:\rsdbkey.txt -ppassword) but I get the following error: The Report Server Windows service in not responding to RPC requests.     - Can total be moved to top of column rather than bottom Standard newbie disclaimer: I have searched the archives and this is my second week with the tool, so my apologies if this is a rather simple question or I am not asking the question properly. My team has received a specification for a report where the customers would like to see column totals at the top of the column, rather than SSRS's default of bottom. I am new to banded report writing, so I am hoping this is fairly simple. Using BusinessObjects, I would have inserted a row at the top of the column and then copied the formula from the total (or subtotal) line up to the line I had just inserted (then deleted the row at the bottom).     - Security Error Hi to all i have the next problem: i have make a report tha call an external assembly. This assembly show a method that retrieve some data from a database. This method retrieve some data too from a XML configuration file. In development enviroment all working good but when i try to view the report from the browser there is the next error.     - Data Driven Subscription with Dynamic Email Attachment File Name Hello, We are using SSRS with SQL Server 2000. We have a sales rep report that requires a sales rep value as a parameter. We have multiple data driven subscriptions setup on the server that run for each distinct sales rep number. Each subscription sends the output file to one inside sales manager as an excel attachment. We would like to be able to dynamically set the filename of the excel file for each DDS. Currently the User Stored Procedure that powers these reports returns a concatenated string value that contains the descriptive name of the report. This string value is then bound to the Subject field in the Step 4 screen of the DDS. We would like to use the same string value returned from the USP as the file name of each excel file, but there is no such option in the Step 4 value assignment screen...     - Where to Install Reporting Services? I am trying to figure out the best place to install reporting services give the following: The need is to allow developers to use reporting services within their applications. Web users will only get the results of the reports in a web app and will not have access to the UI. Should I install at the database lever or would it be better to install on the web services server? We are running 3-tier applications: Web Front-End Separated by a firewall allowing traffic only via web service to the web services server. Then the web services server only has access to the database server not separated by a firewall. We are not running up against any processing load problems at all..     - Matrix strange behaviour Hello everyone, At first, i have to say that i didn't read all posts about matrix problem. My problem starts when I deploy matrix on report server. My matrix has two row group and one column group, of coz with subtotal's both. When I design report in VS2005 (I use SQL2005 too) everything is ok. After click on cell value I can recognize scopes without a problem, and send correct values to detail report. Detail report depends on clicked cell value, I mean ... when I click for example on subtotal I show only records for this subtotal and so on... like in excell cross-table. The problem is with same report rendered on web. I saw that I can't recognize all scopes, I know that is sounds very strange but I fight with it all day. I thing that it seems to be a bug in RS.     - Scheduling Reports outside of RS application I'm looking for a way to schedule reports to be emailed and/or placed in fileshares, without using the Reporting Services application. The reason is that I want to wrap the success or failure of this job inside of a SQL job or other type of job that can notify me upon failure. As far as I can tell, the RS subscriptions don't have this option. I know I can probably build my own .NET application that will do all of this, but I'm wondering if there is a better way, maybe something through SQL Server. Any ideas would be appreciated.     - Reporting Services and SharePoint I have SQL 2005 Reporting Services running under MOSS (i.e. in a report library). Have created a datasource and use report builder to build a report. When I start a new report I see all the entitities (tables) in the database on the left hand side and I can drag and drop tables. I build a very simple report with 2 columns FirstName and Address and all is OK.... BUT I add the 'Name' column into the report in Report builder and I run the report and I have the following error : An error occurred during rendering of the report. The target location you specified is not supported by the report server. A report definition (.rdl), report model (.smdl), resource, or shared data source (.rsds) file must be located within a library or a folder within it. Any idea ?? Thanks for your help...     - RS2005 exporting to a pdf... We have upgraded to RS2005 and I am now receiving a "non negative number required" error when exporting certain reports. The same report works fine with some records and fails with other records. It looks to be related to the photos that are embedded in the report. The photos are stored in the database and not a link. The report always runs and looks fine in the report viewer window. When I try to export to pdf, I get the error. I can remove all of the photos from a report that is failing and it exports fine. I start adding photos back to the report one at a time and it fails only on certain photos. I can run the same report with the same data on our RS2000 server and all reports export fine. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any ideas? We are running the RS2005 (enterprise version sp2) on windows 2003 server. Basically if the user chooses option 1, I need to filter the table by the column IsAdded = 1.     - Parameters in SSRS with OLAP Hi - I have a report that uses an OLAP cube. I cannot figure out how to pass parameters into the report using URL. I've tried setting the parameter to the value I desire, but that doesn't work. Here's an example: http://mysite/reportserver/report.rdl&rc:toolbar=true&rc:LinkTarget=_top&DimParameter=301 When I look at how OLAP passes parameters into reports, it's not the same as when I use straight SQL tables.     - US Date Format in Date Picker I also have this same problem since applying SQL Server 2005 SP2. Everything possible is set to UK English, but when you select a date for a report parameter from the date picker it displays in US format MM/DD/YYYY but interprets it in UK format DD/MM/YYYY. I found that if you first run the report with a date that is valid in either US or UK format e.g. 01/01/2007, the second and subsequent execution of the report will display and treat the selected date as UK format. This is not a satisfactory work around. I am working with a Windows XP SP2 client with IE 7.0. A colleague working with Vista as a client does not have this problem.     - Field Formats I have just started playing about with reporting services in an attempt to assess whether to use it as our reporting system instead of crystal. Ive noticed that the field format options that are available seem to be quite limited. I am based in the UK and my machine is set up to use Â£ as the currency symbol, and my date format is dd/mm/yyyy. When I right-click a field in my report, then Properties ..., then Format tab and then the ... build button to select a format, the options seem very limited. For example, if I select Currency, the symbol is $, if I select Percentage, the options seem to be no decimal places or 2 decimal places, if I select date the option to display as dd/mm/yyyy is not available. I know there is a Custom option, but, when trying to format a date to display as dd/mm/yyyy format, my dates in the report display as 01/00/yyyy. It seems that dd/mm/yyyy is not interpreted in the same was as all of my other software interprets it. Also, the defaults for the machine dont seem to be used. How do I overcome these format issues?     - Stored procedure prefixes Hi All, I just had a client ask me if the stored procedures that a suite of reports I have written can have a different prefix than dbo. Of course, if the prefix is supplied inside the RDL a different prefix can be used....but that would mean knowing the prefix during development or changing all those reports at install time....and upgrade time... So, I was wondering if there is an 'global parameter' that can be set in a project or set for reports that can change the prefix being used for stored procedures being called by Reporting Services? In the meantime, all we have done is change the prefixes for all the tables and leave the prefixed for SPs to be dbo. This works fine......so this is not a 'big deal'....the client just feels it would be nice to have the SPs have the same prefix as the tables.     - opening a report using window.open() causes asp.net postbacks to fail I have a problem when opening a sql 2000 report using window.open(). As soon as the the new window with a report is opened, asp.net post- backs will fail. The postback will work but nothing happens on the page. It is then neccessary to restart IE to get the application working again. The script i use to open the window is: window.open('http//:[ip address]/reportserver?/ReportFolder/ ReportName') I do not have this problem on a development machine using 'localhost' or machine name. The behavior I describe happens when the application is deployed to a production machine using server 2003 as well as test machines running XP.     - DDL depends on other DDLs display empty list Hi, I had this scenario, 5 dropdown list, 1st ddl(called LOB - multi-value), 2nd ddl(called site - multi-value), 3rd ddl(called date - single selection), 4th ddl(leader - multi-value), and 5th ddl(manager - multi-value). The 1st ddl is populated when report started, 2nd ddl is depended on 1st ddl selection, 3rd ddl no dependency, 4th ddl is depended on selection of 1st, 2nd and 3rd ddl. If I ran all dataset for each ddl(which populate each ddl), it works fine with passing required parameter values. When I preview the report, select 1st ddl, report populate 2nd ddl fine, then select 2nd ddl and 3rd ddl. The report supposed to populate the 4th ddl(Leader). It didn't in stead I got empty list. Yes; however, I'm not sure if it is still available for download. As
you suggested in the previous posting, you may need to download SSRS
2005 (though it will not be licensed, unless you use the SSRS Express
Edition). Hope this helps.
