    - Recreating a Python Report I'm still fairly new to Reporting Services, and i have been tasked with recreating a report that i believe was originally created with Python. I know i can do it in ASP.Net, but i would rather use Reporting Services. I know i can figure out most items, but the one issue that i'm having is getting all the ticket numbers to appear. Here is an example of what i'm trying to create Users Tickets user1 13345 user2 9133 6718 6669 3726 user3 9682 7313 3583 13465 13460 13458 11829 ... So, the report would continue to display each user, and every ticket that is currently assigned to them. (each ticket is actually a link to the details, and color coded - but i'm sure i can figure that part out) I'm having troubles getting the report to appear with a dynamic number of columns displaying all the ticket numbers. I did get the report to display this at one point - but it's no good because it gets REALLY wide!     - 'The remote name could not be resolved' error suddenly Out of the blue today, with no changes on the server that I'm aware of, I'm getting this message when I try to access the report manager.... The underlying connection was closed: The remote name could not be resolved. I can access https://localhost/reportserver and get the FTP style listing of the folders and reports. And run the reports.     - Report out an html string Is it possible to report out an html string into the rich format? --> I use an html control (RichTextBox 2.5) that allows the user to create the main body of a quote in a wysiwyg environment, and that formatting is successfully saved as an html string to the SQL db and successfully displayed when opening back up in the control. --> Will Reporting Services allow me to take that html string and display in the main body of a report, with the formatting applied (i.e. bold, bullets, etc.)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, from saving as a certain datatype in SQL to rendering the code in the Reporting Services.     - Exporting CSV Stream to a file that is ANSI not UNICODE a CSV unicode file does not look good in Microsoft Excel (while maintaining it's delimiters). I want to keep the file as a real CSV, but have it open in Excel. If I save a unicode CSV as ANSI (notepad/wordpad) then it still looks OK to other programs, and looks good in Excel. I'm doing a Dim stream As FileStream = File.OpenWrite(fileName) stream.Write(results, 0, results.Length) stream.Close() type method to write the file... how do I get it ANSI?     - Report Manager stops with HTTP 401 error (unauthorized) Hello! During my holiday the report manager stopped working and it is not possible to access the reports using http://reportserver/reports. All automatic distribution of reports have also stopped. As always, nobody has done anything on the web server except adding a new website. All reports are available from http://reportserver/reportserver and working as they should. Has anyone experienced the same and have any leads on how to fix this? I have tried different security settings on the virtual directories, but everything seems like it was from installation date. I am reluctant to change security settings using rsconfig, etc. because all reports are working. Many thanks in advance.     - Big performance problem with reports Hello everyone! I have major performance problems with reports that I have deployed in Reporting Services. I have an Sql database with millions of rows, and I have created a cube in Analysis Services that is run against a view in the database. My reports get data from the cube and the dataset is created with Sql syntax. I need to filter the report and needed to create parameters, but only prameters that give the option of choosing "all", i.e. being optional parameters. The only way I can do that, as far as I know, is by creating the filter parameter datasets in Sql Syntax. That is to be able to use union as in "select 'All' union select the real dataset group by value" syntax. And it seems that I can't use union when running the sql statement on a cube, so I have to run the statement on the original database view. Now the problem I have is that it takes about half an hour or more to view the report, after choosing values in some filter parameters! As far as I can see, the group by, is the statement that takes such a long time. But that can't be the only problem. So... does anyone know what I can do to reduce the time it takes to process a report and what performance enhancements I can do? I also have a problem with a specific report that gets a System.OutOfMemoryException when I try to view it in the preview pane. But when I run the dataset generating the report data, there are no problems. Does anybody know what the problem might be? I'm in a tight place and would appreciate any fast responses. As far as I can tell, the Web Service will ONLY accept parameters if they are in the US date format (MM/DD/YYYY).     - Bug? Open Report in new Window failed if localhost is used Hi MS-Folks, i got a strange behaviour. I use the .Net-Reportviewer-Control in some ASP.net-Pages. IIS and Reportserver is hosted on the same machine. If i set the reportserver-URL to http://localhost/ everything works fine but "Jump to URL"-Links like ="javascript:void(window.open('" & code.ServerUrl() & "kkm/ktr_detail.aspx?konto=" & bla bla bla failed. The Reportserver tried to open the new link in the same browser-window. If i set the report-server-URL to the FQDN http://MyReportServer the Link works and a new window opens. I spent hours to figure that out and i can reproduce that behaviour on other machines.     - Automated Printing - IMAGE is bandwith hog and slow - Is there a better way? I've written an app that automatically prints reports but it takes forever to render and then dump to the print spooler. The code I'm using came as a sample with RS. I was dinking around with the "format" parameter to no avail (using PDF - etc.) This is something I think should take a couple seconds to dump to the printer and it's taking 5 to 10 minutes.     - Dynamic SQL Newbie needs urgent help Have a report that is working fine. Customer wants to add another field to it. I have a field name of navigationPK to get the field they want. Only problem is is that the navigationPK can be a primary key from any number of tables. Scenario....... Have a usertask displayed on dashboard.....need to do a report on all overdue tasks. Each task has a particular navigationpk. This navpk can be linked to three or four tables. ie.....navpk 1189134 could be the pk in a tpp table, rvc table or a tr table.     - Publish Reports and Overwrite We're in the process of migrating development to another server. In order to easily synch the Report Managers, I'd like to write a script that I can run daily to update everything on the new server. If I run my script, it alerts me that the file already exists and will not overwrite it. How can I programmatically force an overwrite if-exists like the option that exists within Report Manager?     - Web Service render Timeout I'm using the Web service library's ReportingService.Render function to export a report to PDF format. After 90-100 seconds of processing, the call to Render throws an exception saying that "The operation has timed-out", but the ReportServer keeps on grinding at the report. The report is eventually finished succesfully, as I can see in the RS Execution Log that it ends with a status of 'rfSuccess'. Data time is under a second, Process time is almost 7 seconds, and render time is about 150 seconds. Nothing's timing out on the server side.     - Unable to activate ReportServer! I have reporting services (2005) installed and can view the default web page. However, whenever I try to either upload a report or deploy a project from VS I get an rsReportServerNotActivated error. - I've uninstalled and reinstalled SQL 2005 (April CTP) several times, making sure to delete all databases each time, to no avail. - I've used rsactivate with several different options, it never returns anything. It just accepts the command and goes right back to a prompt. I'm including the log file just in case it makes sense to anyone (it doesn't help me much). Please help!!! The problem I'm having is when I export the report to Excel some of the data is not recognized a numeric and I get the green triangle in the corner of the cell. I believe this is due to the matrix having some blank columns along with numeric data.     - Damage to file message when exporting to excel I am getting a "Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attemted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted." in some instances when exporting to excel. I have noticed that a couple other list members have also reported this issue, but have been unable to narrow down the exact cause of the problem (see post by DJJIII on 7/13/2005 subject: excel export /collapsed fails to render excel file) The interesting thing in my case is that I have a fairly complex report with many charts and tables. My "top level" report throws this excel error. However, if I add parameters ("drill down report") the structure of the report is exactly the same with charts and tables, just less (or different) data and then it renders fine. Incidentally the top-leve report has params too, so having parameters itself is not the issue. I am not using groups at all, so I don't think the issue is directly related to the use of groups as was suspected in the post by DJJIII. My guess is there is some data-related issue as our same report (both top-level and drilldown) with different data works fine. Our report actually is a collection of 10 or so subreports, so I will be doing a little debugging by removing subreports to see if I can identify the subreport or data that is causing the issue. Microsoft, please let us know if there has been a confirmed issue related to this and what causes the problem. I would be happy to provide an RDL, excel file, etc. to help you resolve the issue. You may want to read up on "grouping" in the RS Books Online and also look
at the "Company Sales" and the "Employee Sales Summary" sample reports of RS
2000.
