    - PDF Export taking too long I am using RS SP2 with SQL 2k SP4. I have a fairly large report, in the region of a few hundred pages. It has a couple of parameters that filters the data. I have it linked from a web application and it goes directly to PDF. If the parameters are set the report renders to PDF pretty quickly, the size runs from 1 page to 70 pages. If we try to render the whole thing it just sits and sits and sits. I let it run for an hour at one point at the report never appeared. The CPU is spiked to 25% continually and eventually I have to do an iisreset to. Now I am pretty sure, say 95% sure that this report worked fine with RS SP1 and SQL 2k SP3a. So two questions. Is there a known problem with large PDF exports? Does anyone know if any third parties are selling PDF rendering extensions for sql reporting services? I know there is at least one for Excel.     - Can it be done? WinForm consumes report, then prints direct to printer It seems like there must be a way to do this basic task. A winform app calls a report, passes the parameters and then outputs that report directly to the printer without user intervention, or browser sessions.     - Writing an Expression to Convert Date to String I am creating a report in RS where I need to display "N/A" when the value in the date column is NULL else it should display the date. The date column is being pulled from the database and has datetime datatype.     - SP2 Print Creating Large Print Document I've noticed that when I try to print reports using the client-side printing feature with SP2, that the document sent to the printer is very large (about 20MB / page with most of our reports). I know others have mentioned this problem, and potential reasons in this newsgroup, but I was wondering if Microsoft has officially recognized this as a problem or even reproduced it. We just recently noticed this behavior when a 25 page (letter size) report took a significant amount of time to print using client-side printing and they started printing it by exporting to pdf as they were required to in the past.     - Extra column in report rendering I'm displaying my report in an ASP.NET application by using the Render method. I have a simple table with 1 cell in it. I want to put the returned report in this cell for display. When the report is returned, it has TWO columns. This is causing the report to be displayed on the left side of the screen, when it should be centered (the extra column on the right of the table is taking up half the screen, pushing the left column of the table, the one with the date, to the left of the screen). My report in the report designer simply consists of 3 tables. Where is this second column coming from when the report is returned to the aspx page, and how can I get around this???     - Error when exporting to Excel I have a fairly complex report - complex because it has many calculations in the report itself. My user wants to save the results to Excel, but we get an error during the save process. We can save to PDF, CSV, etc. Sometimes I can save the result to Excel while in the development environment, but it always fails from the web site.     - Prevent Changing Parameters in the URL for a report I'm looking to see if anyone knows of a better solution than what I am about to describe. We have reports that we pass a projectID as a parameter through the URL to the report. Each User has access to certain projects, so we don't want them to be able to change the projectID in the URL to access data for other projects in the reports. The solution we came up with so far is this. We create a dataset based on a stored procedure that we pass the (global) User!UserId, and returns the projectIDs that the user has access to. We then use this dataset to fill a report parameter by query. The result of this is if the user tries to pass a projectID parameter that is not in the resulting dropdown parameter list, the report automatically does not render. Here's the problem I have now: A report that references User!UserId can not be used as a subscription and we do need to allow subscriptions to these reports. This makes the solution described above useless. Does anyone have any ideas how we can go about preventing the parameters being changed, while still being able to use subscription services? Most of the attachments are fine but a handful of them are receiving this error when opening the file in Adobe Acrobat.     - MOM 2005 Reporting I'm trying to install the Mom Reporting service, My MOM 2005 (W2k3 w/sp1) server also hosts the sql database (sql2000 w/sp3). While running the install for the reporting services I get this error. Failed to create data source for data warehouse, check to make sure you can access the SQL services reporting server.     - MIME attachment blocked We send reports via subscription and the attachments are blocked by Mailsweeper saying "Invalid base64". It seems that the server encodes the attachment wrong so it's blocked by mailsweeper. In notepad the "extra" character is visible. I encoded an attachment locally and no extra characters displayed.     - Sorting a column referencing an expression only Hello, Hopefully I can explain this clearly. I understand how to sort columns that reference fields in a table. However, I have created a column titled "Total" which basically totals my "QTY" and "COST" field columns. Crystal reports allows you to sort an @TOTAL formula in a column, but this is not allowed in RS? I have quite a few columns based solely on expressions and not just a drag and drop field from a table. Are there any work arounds?     - Crazy Excel Export We created a Report with a table and charts etc. Rendering in PDF works. The Problem is rendering in Excel. Sometimes it works and sometime not: My last experience was this: yesterday I got a "Example-Report.xls" and everything was ok, multiple worksheets with tables and charts. I was able to store the file. Today, when I execute the Report rendering in Excel failed: After I am asked to open the file there is no worksheet or anything! Excel behaves as if no Excel-file is open - I canÂ´t see anything I canÂ´t do anything. But when I close Excel and try to render the Report again, I get the message "The file is opend by User ... ..." I donÂ´t know what happens. Now I need to solve a tricky conditional formatting problem. Let me provide some info first and then I'll ask a few questions. The report I have generated is a very concise matrix. It basically assigns ranks to failure modes by product family and displays product families side by side (ascending alphabetically along columns) with failure modes for each family ascending by rank (rows). Then the top 10 modes for pfH will be assigned color codes (background and complementary font) based on a standard. Based on the standard, matching modes in all product_families are color coded the same. This has the effect of being able to show where failure modes in one family fall within all the other families. I have a function, setcolor() that I can use to set the background (BG) and font (FT) colors. Now, I need to figure out how to read the modes for a given family into an array (?) and then pass the array (?) to setcolor(). I have created a separate hidden table that houses the basis family (parameter driven) with its modes and I am trying to read that into an array. I would like to be able to have yet another hidden table in the report holding 10 rows with BG and FT the way I would like them. These properties would be read into an array along with the modes for the basis family. Then I would pass the modes, BG and FT to setcolor() and be fine. Is it possible to read BG and FT properties of a matrix cell/textbox into an array in code? Right now it looks like I'll be hardcoding the BG and FT properties in an array and then combining these with the modes for our basis family in another array.     - Retrive Image Datatype in my reporting services report I have a table that has an image datatype column and I also have a contant type column in that same table to define which type of data is stored in that table. In this case a screen shot or may be a word document may be stored in that table....!     - Insufficient data for an image After upgrading to RS Service Pack 2, exporting a report that has an embedded image as a PDF now gives the error "Insufficient data for an image". I got a copy of the dll Microsoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering.dll from a machine running RS Service Pack 1 and the export works just fine.     - Additional Toggle items for visibility I have a row that is defaulted to "hidden" with a textbox that toggles the visibility. Is there a way to define an additional toggle item as well? Example: You have a report table the groups by sales person, client, products sold to the client The default view shows the sales reps and their clients, but the products detail is hidden. The detail can be toggled for any given client by clicking on the client name. I would also like to have a toggle on the sales person. So that when you click the sales person toggle, all detail for all clients related to the sales person are displayed. Currently I think my only choice is to pick one or the other.     - DataSet Problems Hi, We have noticed a problem with following: 1. creating a new report 2. adding a DataSet which pulls from a shared data source and displays information correctly 3. choosing 'Save' and not pulling the fields into the layout form When we open the report again the dataset is there but all references to the table we selected are gone.     - HOW-TO access remote SQL for data source? hi, How to access a DB on a remote/seperate MS SQL machine? My Reporting Services is installed together with MS SQL & IIS on a Windows 2003 server. I am able to access my reports from the report manager just fine if my data source is from the local SQL. However, I get the following error when trying to access the SQL DB on a different machine. An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'PRMaster'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. I did a search on the older posts and believe that I came across some similar cases. As it stands, my table skips the second column on the page and flows
into the first column on the second page, and then the first column on
the third page, ad nauseum. I want the table to fill up both columns on
the page before breaking to the next page. All the docs I've found
state that flowing into multiple columns like this happens
automagically. If so, what's the incantation I'm missing?

This is being attempted on VS2005 Beta 2 on XP.
