    - child table dataset ignored If I drop a table inside the cell of a larger table, then the expressions in the child table cells ignore the child table's dataset and default to the parent table's even though the child table's dataset remains set to its original value. There is no workaround since there is no way to set a field to a specific dataset's field unless you use an aggregate value. In my case, I'm looking for the repeating row's value rather than a count(), first(), etc. This seems like a serious bug. The reason I even tried this is because there are major rendering problems in HTML and Excel that cause wrapping when you have several tables side by side. They seem to render perfectly in PDF but HTML and Excel yield unacceptable wrapping. To MS: We have a funded contract and our customer has selected and mandated SQL Server Reporting Services.     - Chart Inside Table I've read different posts on this topic and I'm still not satisfied. I have a bar chart that is inside a table. My SQL is set up to return each hard drive in a computer that is in a group and report on the amount of free space. I had to put it inside of a table because I couldn't figure out how to get the bars to stay the same size if the number of computers in the group grew. For instance, if I searched one group that had 1 computer with two hard drives, the bars on the chart was too wide, and if I searched a group that had 20 computers with 50 hard drives, the bars on the chart was too small. I was unable to figure out how to make the bar chart resize to fit the data not the bars in the chart to fit the chart. So... I have a bar chart that is inside a table. If I set the Chart sub-type to "Bar chart" it the data shows correctly but I have a green bar that shows the total disk space (my data is used space and total space). My boss hates the green bar because it's 100% and he can see 100% without the green bar but if I put it on what should work, "100% stacked bar chart" the data doesn't show properly inside the table with respect to the other bar charts.     - Event Driven report subscription/generation? I have several stored procedures and batch jobs that compile complex datasets, making new tables that are specifically for Reporting use. Some of these jobs finish at differnt times than others, and a few jobs I do not control - they are done by another process elsewhere. Ideally, I would like to have my report/snapshots start refreshing as soon as the particular job it depends on completes. Right now I schedule a time when the jobs are "normally" done by, and hope for the best. Has anyone had any success in using some form of event driven mechanism to running reports?     - calculate change from a previous group row? Hi, All standard newbie apologies apply, but I can't believe this is as hard as it is to figure out. I have a table with a group row that sums a value for a given week. On each next instance of that row, I want to calculate the % change compared to the previous week(groupItemA - previous(groupItemA) / groupItemA). When the size/total record of the table is increasing, the display process becomes slower and slower. I managed to trace it and find out that in my case, 300,000 records consumes more than 2 minutes for the report manage to render it, while loading the data from database only take 10 seconds!     - Page spacing issues When I have a group with the details below suppressed, the page spacing stays the same and does not shrink to match the hidden detail. This is very confusing for people viewing the report. For example.... I may have a report that is grouped by State. Lets say I have 2 states on my report... NC and SC. Below the state gouping, I have customer information in the detail section, but the section is hidden. Lets say for NC, there are 5 pages of hidden detail.     - RS 2005 - Paraemeter "Groups" Hi, I am investigating moving one of my client's reports from ASP 3.0 based to RS 2005. Many of their reports have Paremeter "Groups" such that a report can be displayed by entering a daterange, a week number or a month. The stored procs are designed to only take the daterange paremeters and the ASP generates that range if the user entered a week or a month.     - EXPORT TO PDF - double lines won't export Has anyone seen this before: if you set the borderstyle for any cell to double, when you export to PDF, it appears as a single line. Is there a work-around for this, aside from a adding another row?     - ReportViewer control and scaling issue When using the reportviewer control on a web page, we would like to set the width and heighth to a percentage of the container that it is placed in. It appears that the defaults are 400px. Of course these can be changed, but you may experience horizontal and/or vertical scroll bars or a window that is too large for the report. What we are trying to achieve is to have the contents of the exposed SRS report scale properly when the size of the browser window is changed.     - "#Error" displayed in field on deployed report I have an unusual problem. First let me explain the data I'm trying to collect, to see if there is a different/better way (read: a way that works). On my report, the data is coming in from a stored procedure that is setup in a table control on the report; and the table has two subgroups (Breed and Hatchery for reference purposes, the data is pertaining to Turkey flock data FYI) in it to show the totals of each subgroup of the data. The user wants to have a field show the percentage of a hatchery a particular breed represents. For example: Table: Flocks Fields: FlockNumber, FlockBreed, FlockHatchery, FlockSize (number of birds) Data: 01; NIC; SC; 17,920 02; NIC; SC; 7,448 03; HYB; SC; 5,890 04; HYB; SC; 11,825 05; NIC; CF; 5,547 06; NIC; CF; 10,695 07; HYB; CF; 20,790 08; HYB; CF; 5,998 And the subtotals are on FlockBreed, then FlockHatchery like so: SC; NIC; 25,368 SC; HYB; 17,715 SC; 43,083 CF; NIC; 16,242 CF; HYB; 26,788 CF; 43,030 What the user wants is: SC; NIC; 58.88% SC; HYB; 41.12% SC; 100% CF; NIC; 37.75% CF; HYB; 62.25% CF; 100% What I did to solve this problem was to write another Stored Procedure to calculate the percentage and return it. Then I called the procedure from VB.NET code that I wrote and put in the "Code" tab of the "Report Properties" dialog. The code works, because I tested it first in a standalone application, but I'll post it (scroll-down) for good measure. I found that I had to add the "System.data.Dll" to the "References" tab to avoid errors, but once I did the report ran fine. I thought this had worked great. I previewed the report and the values showed up exactly as they were expected to. The values were correct and I thought I was home free. Then I deployed the report, and viewed it from Internet Explorer, and in the fields that should hold the percentage there is "#Error" printed (without quotes). I checked the log file located at: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\LogFiles\ReportServer_<dateTime>.log" on my SQL Server box and there is nothing pertaining to errors, only "Info" lines. Some quick searching suggested that there is a security issue to be dealt with, but nothing I tried seemed to help (for reference, I was working with the following link from Microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/RSPROG/htm/rsp_prog_extend_install_25ia.asp) If anyone has any ideas how I can get this to work, or knows what I was doing wrong with the security, I'd greatly appreciate it.     - Enable parameter selection I have two reports. On Report1, I have a hyperlink action that brings up Report2, passing the required parameters it needs. But when Report2 is shown, I don't have the ability to change the parameters, E.g. in Report2, I have a parameter in a list with a Show\Hide options. When getting redirected from Report1, the default is set to hide. When I'm in Report 2, I then want to change it to Show, but the parameter "section" is not on the report header. Most reports take less than 30 seconds to download to my browser - I can see them fine. One particular report takes a minute to download - others can see it, but my browser times out after 30 seconds. I get the message: "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.     - font color inside bar graph Is there a way to change the point lable color of the font if it's inside of the chart beside a bar? I have a chart that shows the percentage of disk space free. Once the chart gets less that 25% it runs out of room to put the point lable percentage beside the bar so it puts it on the bar.     - Support for Mac / other browsers in 2005 version? We are currently considering basing a new project for a large client on SQL Server 2005 and Reporting Services. But a large number of the users have Mac's. Will they be able to view and create reports? I haven't been able to find any info about what is supported on Mac and in other browsers than IE. A quick test with the September CTP showed some problems with Mac, but perhaps this will improve with the RTM version? If anybody has any information please let me know, as we very soon has to decide whether to go with Reporting Services or we have to use other solutions (i.e. web site with Crystal Reports).     - Referencing a parameter value in another filter condition Hi, I'm using Business Intelligence Studio and have come across a challenge that I haven't managed to surmount yet. I need to build a query where the user enters a 'date from' parameter which constrains BOTH the invoice dates and the date of registration of the customer to whom the invoice relates. ie I want to retrieve invoices which are raised since 'date from' by customers who were not registered before 'date from'. I can easily create a parameter that constrains the invoice date but I cannot get a filter expression for the customer registration date to reference the value of the 'date from' parameter. The closest I've come is by making the customer registration constraint a second parameter, which means the user has to enter the same date twice. I'd be grateful for any help on offer.     - Should I use Reporting Services? Hi there, I have been asked to rewrite some Access forms which generate reports into 'ASP.NET' technology. There is a current ASP.NET system in use with a SQL Server 2000 database. The Access forms connect to the SQL database along with its local tables, so it would be best to remove the Access form and replicate its functionality in the ASP.NET system. I originally was thinking to do everything through Reporting Services including the retrieval of the data from the SQL DB. However I am required to replicate a few reports which draw from the same 'datasource' (certain reports use certain portions of the datasource). Though from what I have read, data is always retrieved dynamically for each report? There is no caching of a datasource similar to a report? There are also a few requirements too which I don't think Reporting Services satisfies. That is, when I retrieve the data from the datasource, it would require calling code in the current ASP.NET system to filter the relevant data returned from the datasource based on user input (parameters). That code is used in another module in the ASP.NET system but doesn't use Reporting Services. Also, it is required to insert data to be displayed in a report ie I would retrieve the relevant information from the datasource based on user input (parameters) and then append some more data. So the data from the datasource and the 'new' data would be displayed in the report. I am now thinking to produce an interface/module in the ASP.NET system for the user to retrieve the relevant data and place it within a table/s in the SQL Server DB. And then use Reporting Services to generate the reports without the need for any user input besides selecting which type of report to generate.     - RS 2000 installation I'm trying to install our MSDN copy of RS 2000 Report Server & Report Mgr on our development server (SQL2K sp3a on Win2K sp4 w/IIS). This installation went fine and I can see all the components, but now I'd like to install the "client components & samples" on my laptop (WinXP sp2 w/ VS.Net 2003). The installation routine is asking for a key after a dialog box tells me I do not have SQL or IIS installed on the laptop - what key do I use? I don't have a RS 2000 key that was on "the little yellow sticker" for RS 2000 & I don't want SQL2K or IIS installed on my laptop. I just want the Client Components on the laptop and the Server Components on the server. BTW - for this to work, do the server components have to reside on the same machine meaning SQL2K & IIS must be installed on the same server? When I run it from the Report Manager after deployment, the the default value is blank and it only renders after I type in "%" and click the "View Report" button. I checked the Properties/Parameter page from the Report Manager and found the "Has Default" is unchecked and "Default Value" is blank. Here is my question: Why the default value of % in the VS designer doesn't get updated in the Report Manager after deployment? And how to get the Report Manager take the default value? THis brings up another observation: The Report Manager has another layer of control setting the default value of a parameter regardless of what the designer has for the default value. You can import Access reports directly in the dev environment... Crystal you
will have to do manually... However I think HItachi has developed a
conversion tool ( not for sale ) , but one their consultants use on their
gigs...It might be cheaper to hire them...
