    - Dynamically Set Default Value and Hiding Parameters Can someone give snippet for dynamically setting the default value for a report, before rendering? I need to do this for my Create Snapshot functionality, as the reports all take a UUID to identify a user for the query. Also, although SP1 allows for hiding parameters, when the user uses the Copy function, the formerlly hidden param is now visisable in the copy.     - Newbie question using Render method I'm using the render method to return a report to an ASP.net web app. I have several panels on the page, which alternate visibility.     - Charts I have a Custom Dundas Charting library that I utilize normally. I'm having troubles getting my chart object (and tried to return and image) to render within my reports. I'm confident I have the custom assemblie referenced. I don't want to use the chart field from the toolbox, I want to set it to what my assemblie returns. Anyway to get around this? I'm aware of the custom data extensions, although, I wanted to just have my existing assemblie which returns charts do it instead. so all my reports that need graphs can just reference the assemblie and graph that is needed.     - Custom Data Extension problems Hi all, I'm trying to develop a custom data extension for a proprietary database we use, and I'm running into problems. I've built a test harness for it and it works fine; however when I try to use it with RS I get the following error just after having entered my query and pressed Next in the New Report wizard: "An error occurred while the query design method was being saved. Object reference not set to an instance of an object" When I step through my code, I can see that everything goes well until the designer tries to call the Parameters property on the Command object. Because my database doesn't support parameters I'm returning null here, something I've seen in several code examples. As soon as I've exited the property I get the error, with the debugger saying it originates from Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Design.Query.HasParameters.     - Problems with Parameters (C#) I am passing parameters from Bryan Keller's C# program that has been mentioned here many times to my report. I get the following error: Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'fromclient' is not a valid value. The execution log shows 'rsInvalidReportParameter'. 'fromclient is a string value and it is the 3rd parameter of seven. The first two are boolean, and I pass them as "0" and "1". I don't seem to get past this point. What am I doing wrong?     - Fetching Data from Table result This may not be possible but if I don't ask.... I have a SQL query which returns something like : Category Value1 Value2 Value3 Value 4 A 10 12 14 15 B 8 22 44 55 C 5 33 55 88 I have a table which displays the above data like: Category Values C 5 33 55 88 B 8 22 44 55 A 10 12 14 15 Note the ordering of the resultant table. In the Table Properties | Sorting I have a function which returns the highest value given a set of values. Hence the sorting is set to Code.HighestValue (Value1, Value2, Value3, Value4). Sure there's a better way to do this and am open to suggestions. Finally we come to my problem. I want to display 88 (highest value from category C) in another part of the report.     - Execution snapshots not being added to report history Hello, I'm trying to generate a snapshot everytime a report is viewed. I've setup the properties of the report to "Store all report execution snapshots in history" but no report is being created under the History tab. The datasource uses hardcoded credentials.     - Superscript in Textboxes Hi, Is there a way to create superscript in RS? Looks like it is currently not supported... I tried creating 2 textboxes (1 regular text and 1 very small text with font size 4) and placed them side by side trying to produce some similar effect but the result after the report was rendered is not good. I would like to put the "TM" trademark text in my product listings, can anyone confirm if superscript is supported or not? Thanks! Also, I would like to bold a portion of the text in a text box.     - "Must declare variable" error caused by stored procedure I'm having the most difficult time trying to generate a report that first calls a stored procedure and then retrieves the data produced from it. I get the error, "An error has occurred during report processing...query execution failed for data set dsOrgs...Must declare the variable @INum" when I try to run the report. The dataset below (dsOrgs) first calls a stored procedure (SV_GetSubordinates) that populates a table with hierarchical data. The second part (the Select statement) then retrieves the data produced by the stored procedure. I have no problem running this set of SQL statements in the Data view of the Reporting Services Report Designer. EXEC SV_GetSubordinates @INum,'Groups',@OrgNum SELECT v_Orgs.* FROM v_Orgs, SVSiblings WHERE v_Orgs.INum = @INum AND v_Orgs.INum = SVSiblings.INum AND v_Orgs.OrgNum = SVSiblings.Num By the way, @INum is a parameter that will be passed to the report in a URL string eventually. But for now, I have to use both the Preview capability of the Report Designer and the Report Manager rendering engine to test out my report. I have another dataset that gets the @OrgNum parameter value from a selection in a drop down in my report. Here is the query for that data set... SELECT NULL AS OrgNum, '-- ALL Orgs --' AS [Description] FROM SVGroupDefs WHERE INum = @INum UNION SELECT OrgNum, [Description] FROM SVGroupDefs WHERE INum = @INum ORDER BY [Description] As you can see, I'm using @INum in this dataset first so I can populate my drop down list. When the user selects an Organization from the drop down list, the selection returns the value for the parameter @OrgNum, which is used in my dsOrgs dataset along with @INum to retrieve the hierarchical data for my report. You may be asking why I need to get hierarchical data when the table object in the report designer uses a parent-child relationship. The reason why I'm going through all this pain is because I need to recursively get all the children from a starting parent level, which @OrgNum supplies. SQL Server does not natively support a way to recursively get all the children in a hierarchy. The only way to do this is to run through my stored procedure, which recursively calls itself and then populates a table with the child OrgNum values (fortunately Yukon has solved this recursive nightmare). It will show the first group, and repeat the second group, and thats it.     - Export Web Archive (MHTML) not working after SP1 installed Exporting to Web Archive (MHTML) is not working anymore after I installed SP1. When I export to Web Archive and open the file directly IE just hangs. When I save the file to my disk and open it from there it works. All other formats for export work fine.     - Yet another Forms Authentication problem This is more of a .NET/permissions issue, but it is in the context of RS' forms authentication, which is making it more difficult for me to understand/debug. I have forms authentication working like a charm. However, I am now trying to do some authentication against an Oracle database. What's very strange is that as soon as I try to bind to Oracle's client (Oracle.DataAccess in, by default, C:\oracle\ora92\bin\Oracle.DataAccess.dll), I get "System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Required permissions cannot be acquired." I've definitely narrowed it down to the Oracle binding, but can't figure out how to make it work. I've looked in "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration" under "Runtime Security Policy" and did an "Evaluate Assembly", which returned "Unrestricted". I also tried editing rssrvpolicy.config (in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\") to add a full trust for the Oracle.DataAccess.dll, but none of this has helped. Any other ideas or suggestions? Despite being much more capable, I often find .NET permissions much more confusing, especially trying to debug this type of failure. If anyone can point me to some good tools and/or techniques on this topic, I'd MUCH appreciate it.     - styletemplate ... what can I put on this file? Hi, I'm currently creating a new style but there is a lack of information about what can I put in the styles list. For example : Page Group Level 1 describe how to format a list in a report. I've setup a background color, but the color is applyed to the list + the "title" of the section in the report. I want to apply the background color only to the "title" of the list, not to the background of the list. Attention: I don't talk about the title of the report and I don't talk about the title of a table. I mean : the text where the group of the list is based on! When I go in the wizard, I select my country as a page group, then the country appear on the report as the "title" of the list. (I want to control the format of this text from the styletemplate file) so, to accomplish this, I'm looking for the complete list of all the possible properties useable in the styletemplate document. can you help me?. thanks. I would like to create a report where one of the columns shows a link to the "attachment".     - 405 Error when passing parameters to reports - IIS and Reporting Services When trying to use a report that requests parameters, while in Visual Studio everything works fine. I can preview the report and select a parameter, click view report and the report works. When I deploy the report to the server and test on the web site, after I select the parameter from the drop down and click the View Report button I get an error in the selection criteria fram that says.... (Clip) The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because the page address is incorrect. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: If you typed the page address in the Address bar, check that it is entered correctly. When checking the IIS logs, I see.. This report, and other reports, work perfectly when used without any parameters, it's only giving this error when I add parameters for the user to select. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm sure it's something I've overlooked, but I've been gazing at this so long just trying to get Report Server working in an SSL and Domain locked environment that I'm cross-eyed.     - Displaying CustomerID in the report header on mutliple pages Hi everybody, I would like to have a field (CustomerID) that is displayed in the header of the page. I can reference a field of the page with ReportItems!CustomerID.Value. This works fine as long the customer information is not spanned across two different pages.     - Automate hiding of parameters Hi, I have a number of reports which hidden parameters. The problem is that when I change the reports, or as the number of reports grows, I'm then having to manually go through the report in report manager and remove the prompt string, making sure that 'Prompt user' is checked to put the 'hidden-ness' back. Is there any way I could do this automatically? All the report parameters I wish to hide will have consistent names so it would make my life a lot easier if I could do this.     - HELP!!! Question about SQL Reporting Services Licensing Hi, I urgently need the answer to a question about SQL Reporting Services licensing. I need to install SQL Reporting Services on an IIS server that hasn't got SQL Server installed on it. The Reporting Services database will deliberately go on a remote SQL Server. I don't want to install SQL Server on the IIS server - I just want to install SQL Reporting Services and put in a valid SQL Server license code when prompted during the setup. However, I can't seem to get a license code from anywhere as our company has some sort of global agreement with Microsoft which means we don't get to see the actual license codes. I'm also told by our licensing guy that SQL Reporting Services isn't on our Select CDs. Has anyone else installed SQL Reporting Services on a server that hasn't got SQL Server on it? If so, how did you do it? I'm genuinely not after some giving me a dodgy license code - I want to pay for the license, but I can't seem to get one through our company!!! :-< Is SQL Reporting Services on Select CDs in a way that means I won't be prompted for a license code? If not, what are you meant to do if your company has a global agreement with Microsoft? I'm almost at the point of going down to PC World to buy a copy of SQL Server, but I imagine this would be viewed very dimly by my company! There must be a sensible solution to this. When I try to connect to the console, I get this error:

I also cannot deploy either. I get this error from

A connection cannot be made with the reports server.

However, the IIS is up and running on the reports server IIS box.
Other web sites are OK.

Is anyone familiar with this error?
