    - IE bottleneck with large multi-value parameters Hi, I have a SQL2005 report that has 3 multi-value parameters, one of these has 14,000 values, the other 2 have less than 600. The queries to populate these lists each take less than a second to run. While previewing these report in the dev environment they load fairly quickly (20 seconds) and the report renders with ease. However, when I run it through the Report Server it takes ages to load the parameters (like 5 mins) then a further 5 mins to render the report. IE (version 6) seems to battle with loading the multi-value controls. It starts hogging the CPU, using up memory and knocking up the I/O Reads and writes. Both on loading the parameters and rendering the report. Any suggestions on getting IE (or is it IIS) to handle this load ? Thanks, Claude Tag: What permission is needed? Tag: 50747

    - External images I'm having problems getting external images to show up in a report. As suggested in other posts in this group - the resource is linked to a fully qualified server name. The reporting services is locked down to authenticated users. The image url is to the same server and I've tried setting access to both anonymous access and authenticated users. I don't believe it is a permissions problem because I can paste the url in a browser and view the image with no problem. When I right click on the red x (where the image should be) and go to properties and look at the url - it only shows the server name and not the rest of the url (folder and file name.) When I review the data that provides the url for the external image - the correct url is in there. I copy and paste to the browser - the image comes up fine. This really has me stumped - because everything seems to be right. I have this running in three sites with no problem and don't see what I'm doing different here. The only difference is that this is running in a tightly locked down hospital setting.     - Cannot create a connection to data source - SSRS 2005 I cannot get this error resolve either for myself or any users, and I'm actually part of the Admin group! Furthermore, a user with whom I'm tring allow to view this report keeps getting prompted for their windows username and password. I thought that since this datasource was set to Windows Authentification that it would just pass it through?     - Printing Page size problems via Render - weird???? Hi, I have a printing problem which I am hoping someone can answer for me. I have written a report that just fits on the page. When I go the the report website and run the report it looks great and I can print from there and it fits on the page wonderfully. However I want to be able to run this report via the webservice. I call the render method and specify the output as EMF for a printer metafile. It comes back and I print out the metafile to the printer. This is where it gets weird. The metafile prints bigger (bigger fonts and everything) than when I print it via the report website so the report doesn't fix on the page and gets truncated. If it had printed the same size as on the report website then it would have fitted fine. Can someone please explain why this is and how I can fix it???? Before I pull all my hair out!     - Detecting the network UserID Hey guys, I would like to determine the network id of the current user so that I can pass that value to a stored procedure that the report references. I tried add the following code in the Code tab of the Report Properties tab: Function GetUserID() AS String Return System.Environment.UserName End Function I then referenced this function as the default value for the @vcUserId argument that the stored procedure wants by assigning =Code.GetUserID() as the Non-queried default value for the report parameter. This approach works well when I preview the report in Visual Studio. Unfortunately, it fails when I deploy the report to the server. Can anyone offer some suggestions on how to approach this issue?     - Webservice with Caching & Archiving reports All, Hello. Our development team has created a webservice which sends parameters to our report server to generate a report, grabs the data, creates a bitstream out of that data and sends it to IE in a .pdf format report. Now they are asking me if there is a way they can cache & archive these reports. We're currently using SQL 2000 with the Reporting services add-in for that version. We can't upgrade to 2005 for another year, so I need a solution that can work with 2000 now and (hopefully) works with 2005 also. The only information I can find on report snapshots & history, though is from a SQL 2005 RS book. And the only information it contains is how to do this these Execution Snapshots & History Archiving via the Report Manager. Is this the only way we can set up report archiving? We want to keep a years worth of financial report snapshots so we can track previous reports and compare them with current ones. Any assistance is gratefully accepted.     - Report Parameters Duplicates - newbie Iâ??m adding a Report Parameters to a report and getting duplicate entries in the drop down. So I thought I could create a new dataset with an expression that would only return the value without duplicates. I canâ??t seem to get that to work.     - Data Driven Subscriptions We are using data driven subscriptions in SRS 2000 SP2 and we are now looking to upgrade to SRS 2005. We have set up a new server with SQL Server 2005 and SRS 2005 and upgraded a copy of our SRS 2000 database which works fine. However, we cannot see our existing, or set up any new, data driven subscriptions. I understand that data driven subscriptions are only available with the enterprise edition of SRS and I presume we do not have this functionality because we have only the standard edition of SQL Server 2005 (and SRS 2005). This is because we currently only have a licence for SQL Server 2000 standard edition. However, I do not understand why we seem to have SRS 2000 enterprise with SQL Server 2000 standard in our current production environment and therefore can use data driven subscriptions. My question is do you have to have SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition to be able to use SRS 2005 enterprise edition?     - Executed Report suddenly vanishes from the browser.. Im using RS2005 report manager. i executed a report for a demo and kept the IE window minimised. when i came back after 10 min i found out the report vanished ( report page has been redirected to a blank page) and i have to run the report again. The report manager has been redirected to a blank page i.e only the report manager top navigation part visible and the report is blank. so i have to run the report again to show the demo. when i looked in to the source of the report generated i found out the following code.. setTimeout("frames['ctl165TouchSession0'].location.replace('/Reports$SQL2005/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?);", 539000); I think this is the code that do the redirecting to the blank page..can anyone know why this happening? is this a intended feature? any documentation available?     - Currency Exporting to Excel Hi, In one of my reports I have some fields that are currency fields displayed with the currency format string (C). However, when I export these to Excel (2003) I get the little yellow warning that says Number stored as text. And if I try to do a sum by dragging across the cells and clicking the sigma button at the top, it causes it to put an odd formula in the top row. I can do that fine, but the buttons SQL, diagram, verify sql all disapear on the new dataset. I would like to verify sql. What affects their inclusion? 2.     - Altering the report manager Is it possible to change the report manager settings so as to change the "report is being generated" screen into a customised screen display.     - Questions using RS2005 I have two questions. Both of my questions are based on my experiences briefly using RS2000. First, has RS2005 managed to fix the problem with returning large (average 50K) records without eating up all the server resources or even crashing the server. This happened when I was using RS2000 regardless if I was using paging feature like returning partial records at a time. I've called MS and the support person told me that RS2000 was not meant to return more than 10k records. I thought that was stranged but I kind of understand. Have this issue been resolved in RS2005? Or do I continue using Crystal Reports.. Second question is regarding dataset being pass from asp.net. In RS2000, there was no way to pass dataset from asp.net to RS2000. I know few people in the past have created their own customize dataset (Teo Lachev is one) to be able to pass datasets (not rs2000 dataset but, dataset in asp.net/ vb.net).     - Screen output vs. print output, SSRS 2000 Hi, I'm building a report for a client (in SSRS 2000), where I am experiencing the fact that the output on the screen (ie, what is rendered by Report Manager) is very different from the print output (or export output, for that matter). I am using a list, with a couple of tables (with fixed size) embedded in it. While shown on screen, the page breaks are (as far as I can tell) randomly inserted, no matter what I set as properties for Page Break, Keep Together, etc. The output while exporting to (for example) PDF is great, and exactly as I want it. If I execute this report on the same server as RS with a data source that is connected to a database on the same server as the RS server. Then the report execute without any problems. The problem occurs when the Data Source points to a database on a separate server than the RS server. In this scenario the report executes with an Error. An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online Help Query execution failed for data set 'SRCC'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) Get Online Help Must declare the variable '@PCode'. If the report contains no parameters, it executes without any error.     - SQL 2005 Report Creation - Scrolling Through Data In Visual Studio 2005, I create a Business Intelligence Studio Report Server Project. Then I create a new report, and see the Data, Layout, and Preview tabs. Life is good. In the Data tab, I create a new Dataset from my SQL 2005 database. I type SELECT FirstName, LastName FROM MyTable, hit exclamation. I see a whole table of first and last names. Life is good. I go to the layout tab. I drag the firstname and lastname from the DataSet1 onto the form. Life is still good. I go to the Preview tab. The green donut spins and the report generates successfully. The problem is that I only have page 1 of 1, and I only see the first name in my database table. My expectation is that I'd see a page for every name in the table, and that I'd be able to scroll through the names using the page controls at the top of the form. For instance, page 1 of 10 might show the last name Able, page 2 of 10 might show the last name Baker, and so on.     - Process Multiple Reports at once? I have a project that has 10 reports that I need to schedule in various combinations with different parameters on 5 different schedules, excel output to a file server. Possibly up to 170 different reports a day so regular subscription set up would be a nightmare to maintain. I have looked at Data-Driven subscriptions however what I need is different report combinations generated not different variations of one report. Something like this: Schedule 1 Package 1 Reports A, B, C, D, G (All use same data parameters) Output to Folder 1 Package 2 Reports B, C, D, E, F Output to Folder 2 Schedule 2 Package 1...etc. Is there a way to accomplish this with SSRS, SSIS or SOAP (which I know nada about) - What is the best process?     - Preview tab and Print Preview in Designer - Bug?? I am using RS2000 SP 2. Within the Report Designer, I set the page size to a width of 8.5in and the Height to 11in. The Body of the report's width and height including the margins are less than the page size that I specified. When I go to the preview tab and select the Whole Page option and the Print Preview icon, the report looks fine on a normal letter sized paper. However, when I unselect the Print Preview option and select Whole Page, the report is on a legal size paper. Why does this change?     - The data set name is missing in the data region 'DataSetName'. I had the same problem that Dana notes below when I added a second dataset to an existing report that was working. My report had three lists in it (there were no tables or matrices). After adding the second dataset, I got the error shown above in the subject line. I found that two of the lists had DataSetName as blank. When I set a DataSetName for each of the lists, the problem was solved. The error message from Report Designer could be improved. The message should give the name of the data region (or list) with the problem, rather than saying "data region 'DataSetName'". I'm planning to create a simple way to duplicate the problem. I put a list around all 3 tables and have the list's details group as country name (in the example I have shown) the tables are grouped properly I think table 1 has country as the group and the details group is state table 2 has state as the group and no details group table 3 has state as the group and state as the details group (since it summarizes at that level) It worked when I put table 3 inside a rectangle in the group footer of table 2 but it wouldnt export to excel - I got some error "Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index" Well I dont have any parameters named index so must be somethng that ssrs made up. So then I took the 3rd table out from the 2nd table and enclosed those two in a separate List that I called StateList (which was contained within CountryList)... that didnt work because it gave me the state summary line followed by the detail for that state ... I need to have all the summary table together ... then followed by the state by state detail tables. (navigate using doc map).     - How can I retrieve the number of pages for a report in RS 2000? I need to retrieve the number of pages for a report in reporting services 2000. The reason that I'm doing this is because I'm accessing the report by the Reporting Services web service and the toolbar doesn't come with the report that way. So I'm basically making my own toolbar to display along with the report. I'm working on the navigation part of the toolbar and I can't find a way to get the number of pages that the report has.     - Index was out of range. Must be non-negative... I am currently having an issue when trying to export a report to PDF or TIFF format within Visual Studio. With the full dataset that i'm trying to export, i will get the error message... "Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index" So far the only workaround I've been able to come up with is to change my query so that my totals don't contain any rows with negative numbers, but when using case statements to change my columns from negative to positive decimal values I will still get the aforementioned error message. We use a Data Processing Extension and RS cannot load it if a user with
"low" Windows permissions tries to view a report. Error:
