    - Passing default parameters I have created some reports for our school district and would like to make a 2nd parameters default to what matches the 1st parameter in a drop down list. Example: If a teacher selects their school from the parameter drop down listing, what I am trying to do is so that the teacher does not have to type in their name and ensure the sysntex is correct, but to have the 2nd parameter default to all teachers in that school so they could choose from the listing. I've tried using the school and the teachers in a seperate dataset but when I then select on the school it shows the school multiple times for each teacher. I just want the school to appear for it's parameter then the 2nd parameter would be populated with the teachers names based on the school selected.     - Defining custom column groups on a matrix report in report builder I have table called Buildings which has market and sq. ft information. I want to create a matrix report that has the market as the row group and sq. ft ranges as the column group and shows the # of buildings in each market that fall in the sq. ft ranges. Sq. ft ranges are 0-5000, 5001-10000 etc... My questions is a) is this something that can be done using report builder b) how do i define the sq. ft ranges c) how do I find the count of buildings whose sq. footage falls within the range.     - About a RS version and previous conditions of use I own a Windows Small Bussiness 2003 license which includes SQL server 2000 Standard Edition and additionally came with a version of Reporting Services. I want to learn and use it (Reporting Services) as a beginner but when I try to install it a message appears indicating that I need to install or configure previously two products: a) Visual Studio .Net 2003 b) IIS 5.0 Do I need both of 'em just to begin doing simple reports? I supposed a simple use like I could obtain through Crystal reports 7.0 or so on. Please, help me.     - Publishing from RS 2000 to RS 2005 I want to publishing many reports from RS 2000 to RS 2005. These reports have several server parameters. In order to do it I have used the utility RSScripter, but this application produces .rss and .cmd files for RS 2000. I have modified their code to do to function them to publish to RS 2005.     - SSRS Back End Standards We are in the middle of putting together an Enterprise level Reporting Services roll out. While we have covered folder structures in our versioning, to folders on the deployment side, templates, and captured many other items to be included - one of the developers is pushing that we have some sort of back end standards. The way he is explaining it is sort of like; say we have 3 data sources; we should copy those 3 data sources into a central Reporting DB area; so that all reports are drawing from this central area. He isn't talking about making a data mart or doing any cleansing - just copying whatever tables that we are reporting from - into this central area.     - passing parameters using a URL I'm knew to SSRS and SSAS so please bear with me. I understand the concept of how the URL works. I tested with one of my reports (below) and was able to see that the parameter in the received SSAR report displayed the correct item. The parameter in the receiving report parm_year contains the 2006. But how does the receiving report take the parmater (parm_year) and automaticaly run based on the parm_year contents (2006) The data source is an SSAS OLAP cube.     - ReportViewer posts OnChange when params are updated w/o regenerat ReportViewer control will post automatically if a user updates a parameter control (e.g. textbox) and changes focus, without regenerating the report. The problem is that it will postback to refresh the parameter, without re-generating the report, resulting either in the old report still being displayed or a blank report being displayed, both of which are misleading to the user because it is not what the user expects to see.     - Need different FROM addresses for each email subscription I am converting to SSRS from a home-grown datawarehouse reporting solution. We have multiple large customers, and the reports need to "appear" to come from different email addresses, so they can be properly managed. I know I can change the from address server wide, but how do I make my custom email address come up in the FROM field of the email, and not just reply-to? I got the reply-to to work just fine, but it is confusing to the report consumers if they see the reports coming from "SSRS@mycompany.com", and when replying to the email, they get "differentreplytoaddress@myothercompany.com" Thanks! Is there a way to find the rdl files on the server so I can download them to my local pc so I can continue working on them?     - Get IP Address of end-user What would the VB.NET code that I can use in a function call in the Report Properties of SSRS to determine the IP Address of the person running the report? Or is there another way to get the IP Address and pass it into the stored procedure call that is being used for the report data connection? I am trying to secure the report execution to limit the report URL execution to only the original user at the original IP address. My concern is that if someone got the URL of the execution of a report, that someone other than the user who has gone through our forms authentication can view the report information.     - Is there a way to loop over report parameters, and format them before passing them onto the query Good morning all, I have a report which is getting its parameters from an ASP.net page. My ASP developer wants to send in simple values, such as the list 1,2,3,4 for a parameter. However my report needs that list to look like [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[1], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[2], [CD RSRC]. [RSRC].&[3], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[4]. Is there any way, on the report services side, to capture an incoming report parameter, parse it, loop over the parsed values and format them?     - The last graph in the report mail is cut off in lower part Hello, I'm using Microsoft SQL Server Report Designer Ver. 8.00.1038.00 in connection with Microsoft Development Enviroment 2003 Ver. 7.1.3088 nad Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Version 1.1.4322 SP1 to model my Reporting Service Project and Reporting Services is living on the SQL Server 2000 SP4. I made a report with more pairs of tables and graphs laid down one by one and the lenght of report is slowly growing every day in dependence with cumulative sales of the year. What I observe in last day is that the last graph in the report mail is partly cut off in its lower part. This behavior appears but only in the (outlook) mail not but in the previewing the report with Internet Explolrer neither in the prewiev pane of the designer.     - DateTime type Report parameter Hi, I have three parameters in my report. The first one is called QuickDate which is of type string with options like "Current Month", "Current Week", "Prior Week" etc. The next to parameters are called FromDate & ToDate which are of type DateTime. When the user selects an option say 'Prior Week', the system should populate corresponding FromDate and ToDate values. To accomplish this I have written code with two functions which return Date type variables. Iam calling these functions in Default values, Non-queried of Fromdate and ToDate parameters. When the user selects a QuickDate option for the first time, the system populates the FromDate and ToDate correctly. From second time onwards the same old values are retained in the FromDate and ToDate parameters(I can understand this because Iam calling functions in default values) . If I call the functions in Avaliable values: Value, SSRS doesnt show calendar icon but Fromdate and ToDate are populated correctly. Can anyone help me overcoming this problem ? What I want to do is have a page with just the employee's name and some lines that can be used for writing comments to print after the last page of data for the employee is displayed.     - Using textboxes in calculations First of all, I want to apologize if this is already out there but I couldn't find it. Here's my issue (and being new to 2005 Reporting Services, I seem to have many): I am trying to do a simple LYTD/YTD sales report. I have two columns with the totals as I need them. Each column, however, is in a seperate list and gets it's information from date parameters. Since the expressions are exactly the same in each Sum field, I can't simply divide one by another to get my Margin $ or %. In Access, I would have just said =textbox1/textbox2 but it doesn't appear I can use the name of the field as a variable. In a very simple view, what I am wanting is something like this: LYTD YTD Margin +/- 3000000 3500000 14% =Sum(Fields!OrderedAmount.Value) is the expression in both LYTD and YTD with report parameters for the date range for each.     - Subscriptions for cube based reports Hi Can anyone help? We have reports that have been defined against AS 2005 cubes. The data source for these reports have been set as windows authentication and access to the cube is controlled via membership of an AD group. Now we want to create subscriptions against these reports and get the error "Data-driven subscriptions cannot be created because the credentials used to run the report are not stored, the report is using user-defined parameter values, or if a linked report, the link is no longer valid." A report calls a subreport in a list giving it 40 times a different Argument (List is grouped by). The endresult is a report with 40 pages. The subreport retrieves data via one MDX Query from SSAS (each time of the 40 times only one MDX Query). The RDLs are absolutely clean from ANY MDX-Drag&Drop autogenerated BIDS-Code. This only MDX-Statement is cleaned from all overhead (e.g. property-retrieval). SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[A], [Measures].[B], [Measures].[C], [Measures].[D], [Measures].[E], [Measures].[F], [Measures].[G], [Measures].[H]} ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { ([A].[B].MEMBERS * [Country].[Country].ALLMEMBERS * [Date].[Month].ALLMEMBERS ) } ON ROWS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@XX, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( { [W].[X].[Y].[Z] } ) ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOMEMBER(@FromDate, CONSTRAINED) : STRTOMEMBER(@ToDate, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [myVeryCube]))) The complete Report execution time is 40 seconds! So there cannot be any timeouts. This report shows then up and can be printed and exported to pdf and so forth from A to Z But on one ore two pages in the middle, there appear errors: Error: Subreport could not be shown Important: every time I execute the report the errors show up on another page of the report. So there are intermittent problems. The error messages (here at the end) where retrieved using Sysinternals Dgbview while executing the report from ReportManager in IE7 on the Server. I used Dbgview, since the error messages in BIDS are minimal: [rsErrorExecutingSubreport] An error occurred while executing the subreport â??subreport1â??: An error has occurred during report processing. [rsNone] Cannot create a connection to data source 'myCube'. Installed Infrastructure - Windows Server 2003R2 SP2 - SQL Server 2005 SP2 - BIDS with VS2005 SP1 - Connection is made with the standard SSAS Provider (no older OLEDB or such) "Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (AdomdClient)" DataSource.rds: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RptDataSource xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Name>myCube</Name> <DataSourceID>...</DataSourceID> <ConnectionProperties> <Extension>OLEDB-MD</Extension> <ConnectString>Data Source=.\SQL2005;Initial Catalog=thisCube;Connect Timeout=60</ConnectString> <IntegratedSecurity>true</IntegratedSecurity> </ConnectionProperties> </RptDataSource> I found that this very problem has been experienced only by one person on: http://sqlforums.windowsitpro.com/web/forum/messageview.aspx?catid=258&threadid=85315&enterthread=y Important to say: - There ar NO error message in any Eventlog (System, Application, SQL Server...) - Also nothing in any of the currently 196 SSRS Log-Files!!!     - Exchange Server 2007 Calendar Reporting Greetings, I've searched high and low for an answer to my question, and I have been unable thus far to find a precise answer. I need to report off of Exchange 2007 user calendars via SRS. Is this possible and, if so, how are the data sets and data sources configured? I am aware of the Web services that are available with Exchange Server 2007 and I have reviewed the WSDL for them but the parameters to be passed in to the Web methods are serialized object calls. Does anyone have an example of how one can retrieve data from shared Exchange calendars and display the data in SRS? Another wrinkle is that I want to loop through all users in Exchange and pull the calendar data for a duration of ninety days at a time so the XML calls need to accept parameters, for which I have seen examples on the Web. The examples, though, used simple arguments and not the complex constructs used by the Exchange services. Another option I am considering is creating a .NET app that calls the Exchange binding within the Web service to retrieve free/busy detail and then store the data in an SQL database. Doing that, I could call the app on demand when the report is run by saving the assembly in MSSQL 2005 and invoking it via an SP that is called from SRS. However, I prefer the more direct method of creating an XML data source in SRS and the using the <Query> tags in the data set to access calendar data.     - Integrate PowerPoint and Reporting Services? I am trying to move many of our group's monthly report functions from Excel workbooks to a common Reporting Services environment, so data will be visible to everyone at the end of the reporting period. However, some of these slides have found their way into committee meetings, which are driven entirely out of PowerPoint presentations. I am being hit with a request to merge RS Reports with the existing PowerPoint presentations. Unfortunately, while RS does render to the screen, there is no easy way to copy the output to a file at a quality level equivalent to what we had. Right now, I can save my reports to Excel, then copy-paste the Range into PowerPoint, but many times the built-in export fails to render like the Report shows the data on the screen, often including cell borders in Excel that were not specified in the HTML as well as other spacing weirdness. * Is there way I can include an embedded object in PowerPoint that references a ReportViewer that pulls from the Reporting Server?     - SMTP Authentication Not Working We have a lot of distribution lists set to only receive emails from authenticated users in my environment and I need to configure SSRS subscription to work with these distro lists. We are using Exchange 2003 and SSRS 2005. I have changed the RSreportserver.config file to allow SMTP authentication on the SSRS report server per MS' MSDN and Books Online documentation and rebooted the server. However, SSRS subscriptions will still not send to distro lists with authenticated users. They will send to distro lists not set to "authenticate only". Is there something else that I am missing here? The MS documentation states to only change"SMTPAuthenticate" to 2 on the RSreportserver.config file. I can still build a report that returns the correct data, but when I add a filter to the report data, the ddl for the filter never loads the data and says 'unspecified'. We have around 1000 reports for different clients that were developed
in Reporting Services 2000. We don't want to open each file in visual
studio 2005 and convert it to 2005 RDL format. Is there a way that we
can programatically (using C#) convert a 2000 RDL to 2005? Any help is
appreciated.
