    - Passing data from Header to body I am trying to pass data from a textbox in the header to a textbox in the body.     - Unwanted Page breaks after every row in table I don't know if anyone else has run into this problem. I have a report that I designed in a table format with several groups. The detail row has a field that has no size limits. The field could basically contain pages of text. It only seems to be a problem when the size of of the field is larger than the size of a page when it is exported to a PDF. For some reason when the field cannot fit on one page nicely it causes a page break after every row in the table. To clarify, this is not a situation where the table has a bunch of detail rows on a page and the last detail row is too large to fit on the page. That situation works fine, a single page break occurs and the remaining text goes on a following page. In this situation, the detail row itself cannot fit on one page by itself. In this situation, each row in the table has a page break after it. Its like RS can't handle it. Since I have about 12 rows in the table before the detail row, I have 12 pages with one line of text on each page. I'm not doing anything with rectangles, or trying to fit the contents of the table on one page, or keep together. I have not seen much else about this, but I can't believe that I'm the only person to encounter this. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is this something that only happens with tables?     - question on altering parameter layout on preview tab All, Just a minor annoyance, but I am wondering if anyone can help me. When I preview my report using the preview tab, my parameters appear up top in two columns. I have _lots_ of parameters, so it would be much easier for me if i could get them in three columns, thereby shortening the height necessary to view all parameters. Is this possible?     - Hyperlink --> Download the file displayed as hyperlink Hello All, I badly needed help from all of you guys... I been stucked with this problem. Please help. I had created a report which displayed the list of files (filename only) that was saved in the database. The table were the files being saved had two columns: 1. FileName--> where the filename part of the file was saved. (i.e. samplefile.doc) --> this displays in the report(rdl) 2. Physical_Location -->This is the path that points to the physical location of the file. -->Example: \\servername\foldername\samplefile.doc The objective is when the user clicks the displayed "Filename", the download dialog box should be displayed. And when he/she clicks the "Save" button from the download dialog box the file will be downloaded to its local machine. but when he/she selected the "Open" button the file will be open BUT the path SHOULD NOT be shown in the address bar. By the way I tried to put this statement at the "Navigation --> Jump to URL" : =Fields!Physical_Location .Value.ToString() and the Download dialog box already popup/shown but when I clicked the "Open" button,the file displays in the browser but the PATH shown at the address bar. Please help me if there is anything I can do with this to make the path not shows in the address bar when clicking the open button. All suggestions are highly appreciated.     - Migrating Sql RS 2000 to a new Sql 2005 server. hi I have a sql server 2000 with reporting services and various schedules set up which is going to be retired. I have a new server where I will be moving all the relevent databases to. What would be the best way to move all these reports onto a new Sql Server 2005. I know a sql 2005 to sql 2005 move will involve a database move but I don't think a 2000 RS database move to a Sql 2005 server is possible.     - Reports displaying date formats correctly for international suppor I have some reports that I want to beable to have one version of them, and display the proper date format for wherever they are deployed. For instance in the US I want them be displayed as mm/dd/yy, deployed in the UK I want dd/mm/yy, etc. I have found that this is supposed to happen if I change the report language itself to the expression "=User!Language", but it looks to me as though the date field cells in the report still have a "hard coded" format property of mm/dd/yy? Does the language expression over ride this, if I go into the RDL's XML and delete the date format tag itself, I get the entire date, hours, minutes, seconds, etc. I also noticed the date field cell in the report has it's own language property, that is set default.     - Snapshot doesn't work Hello. I have a report that when I'm going to the reporting services to the "History" tab I can press "new snapshot" and it works fine (The snapshot was created). When I try to go to "properties" and then to "history" to configure it to schedule a snapshot every 5 minuts - nothing happen and the snapshots does't appear. I don't see any error on the server.     - Dynamic Reports via SSRS Web Services We want to embed reporting capabilities into a web application where the user can select the columns they want in a report and build a where clause on thier own. What is the best way to handle this with SSRS? I was thinking we would handle building the sql stmts in C# and then we would fill a strongly typed dataset and set it as a the datasource for a rpt. I have not been able to find any sample code on how to dynamically build a report with SSRS given a dataset. Is this possible? Am I even taking the right approach for this problem?     - Report Subscriptions Issue SSRS 2005 / SQL SERVER 64 BIT Issue: Users under the Browser Role who have the Subscription attribute checked can create subscriptions, however they cannot view them. Indications: I as administrator can see their subscriptions and they run without any issues. Also when setting up the subscription, after typing in the email address(es) when selecting the scheduled runtime the email addresses are erased.     - Installation on Windows 2000 Server I have a client that has run SQL Reporting Services 2000 for the last 4 years. They have have installed SQL Server 2005 and are finally ready to move their reporting services to the new version. The installation completed without error.     - Totals with Top N or other filter When using the Top N operator on the detail section, any group totals continue to display the totals for the entire set. For example, if I want to see the top 5 products for each department by sales, and I have a group on department, I want the totals to reflect just those top 5 products for each department, but the totals reflect all products.     - Aligning Matrices and tables in SRS I am working on creating custom report cards for our school district using SRS 2005. The problem I'm having is that I have several Matrices and tables side by side on the report and I have set the items to be in the correct spot on the layout tab but when I go to preview the report there is an excess of white space between the different areas making the report longer. Different things I've tried are: I had one rectangle for all the tables and matrices on the report and they were all in one but still had the same problem. Tried seperate rectangles for each column of tables and matrices with the same result Tried seperate rectangles for each of the items with the same result. All Items are grouped together but I have yet to figure out how to keep the items together on the report. I was going to attach some screen prints but the forum won't allow attachments so you can see what I'm looking at.     - Upload rdl file via Report Manager Hi All, I am trying to "manually" deploy a report to my Reporting Services Server using Report Manager. Basically, I used the Business Intelligence Development Studio to create my report. After that, I have tried to upload my report using Report Manager. Namely, I tried to do an "Upload File" of the .RDL file. The report itself showed up correctly but when I invoked it, I noticed that it does not provide the two datetime parameters that I specified as needed in my report. Basically, my report consists of running a stored procedure that takes two datetime parameters. When I preview the report, it does contain the two date time parameters that the user can populate and works correctly. But as I said, when I manually upload it to the server, it does not. I also tried to upload the .data file associated with my report but that didn't change anything. BTW, I have created other reports that call stored procedures and that require 2 datetime parameters and they all worked correctly. The difference was that I used the "Deploy Report" option in Business Intelligence Development Studio rather than manually uploading the .RDL file. Am I missing something? Thanks!     - SSRS - Get IP - returning wrong IP address I am trying to resolve a simple problem, yet am again totally stuck - please help!! I have 2 datasets - one dataset should get the IP Address of the person running the report: SELECT client_net_address as p_IP_Address FROM master.sys.dm_exec_connections WHERE session_id = @@SPID; I pass the p_IP_Address from this dataset as a default value for the report parameter into my second dataset - which merely runs a simple SP to get several rows which are displayed on the report - this is working fine now. The GET_IP_Address dataset does return one row with one field - but it is returning the IP Address of the SSRS SQL Server machine - where the RDL is run from - not the end-user IP Address. I have tried several different tacks to get the correct IP address into the second dataset, but to no avail. When the report is run in Visual Studio 2005, it shows the correct IP Address, but when I deploy it to the produciton server, and then run it - it does not return the IP address of the person running the report - the report is executed via URL.     - SQL Server 2005 express "report design" folder not found I user SQL server 2005 express reporting service to design a report, also a net .dll library is required , i need to copy it to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Report Designer.", however i can not find this folder on my box, i can only see "C:\Program Files \Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\", there are "Binn" and "Devtools" sub folders under that folder, no "Report Designer" sub folder, did I miss something during installing SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Toolkit?     - Kerberos Errors and Reporting Services only accesable from localho I've setup SQL Reporting Services 2005 a coupld of times in the past have never had this issue. However this time, it seems that the reporting sites are only available via the http://localhost/reports Logon fails when trying to login to the sites via their fqdns and I'm getting kerberos errors in my systems logs. I've tried using setspn for this however, it just doesn't seem to resolve the issue. Right now my only work around it to run of integrated windows security in IIS and turn on basic authentication. However some links still wnat users to login via http. Has anyone run into an issue like this where integrated windows authentication will not work to authenticate users to the SSRS web sites (if so how can on resolve the issue).     - How do you create a new chart for each variable? I am using SSRS 2005 SP2. I am wondering if it's possible to create a new chart for every variable from a query. My data consists of server/database/log sizes. So server A has databases DB1, DB2, DB3. I want to have each database/log pair show on a separate chart.     - RSViewerPage failing RSViewerPage.aspx will not display reports. Configuration- Reporting services in Sharepoint Integrated mode, all security is managed in the underlying database. Data model and connection use integrated security. User can create and modify Sharepoint content freely in the reports folder. If we create a wep part page, we are able to add a reporting web part, which shows the data appropriate to that user. However, when RSViewerPage.aspx tries to render a Reporting Services Report, 'Access Denied' is returned to the browser. Something specific to the execution of RSViewerPage.aspx is failing.     - gif image shows jpg image does not I am puzzeled as to why one image type will show in the browser when the report is viewed and the other type (jpg) will not. I have both image files in the same folder as the report. When I view the report with te gif image and select the properties for the image I get all the infomationsuch as type = GIF location etc. When I use the jpg image I get a red x box and no values show for the image when right clicked and the properties option is selected.     - SSRS-Grand totals in the last page when grouping is applied Hi All, My report consists of a single group based on customer name and we print totals in group footer for each customer. The "Page Break On End" is set to true for the group. I have also placed the grand totals in the table footer. However, the grand total alone prints in the new page, after the last reporting group. I want it to be printed just below the group total of the last group in the report, instead of printing in a new page. Is there any way to do it?. Any help will be appreciated.     - Subscriptions on SRS 2005 We are in the process of migrating all of our reports from anSRS 2000 implementation to an SRS 2005 implementation, and I am having a problem with subscriptions. On the old box, when someone wanted to subscribe to a report, they simply clicked on the subscription link and their domain name (example: pmcbride) would appear in the To: field. They would add a subscription, hit enter, and the subscription would work. Now, it appears to work exacltly the same. However, when they submit the description, it does not work. Why? Because the new implementation requires not just the domain name, but the entier email address in the To: box. So where the subscription page opens with "pmcbride" on the screen, what SRS needs is the full email address of pmcbride@mycompany.com. Did we forget to set some important configuration? I have a report that needs two datasets from two different data sources. i have reaports that already have multiple datasources, and eveything is okay. THis report however, when i add the dataset and source, once i save the report, it chages the datasource. let me explain: dset A uses dsource 1 i added dset B that uses dsource 2 everything sets up ok, then, i go into the properties of dset A, and it has dsource 2 as the dsource if i change that back to 1, then it changes dset B's dsource to 1 also This is really driving me nuts! I have successfully setup a test SQL Server Database Engine on a two node ( passive/active ) cluster using MS Virtual Server.     - return results from stored procedure Hi All, I have managed to get my Reporting Services 2005 up and running. I have a question though: Instead of defining my dataset as a text query (such as select * from table..) I would like to define it as executing a stored procedure. This stored procedure will be a little bit more complex than just a simple (select * from..) In other words, it will look into some tables and then iterate through some values... WHILE BEGIN -- get my values here -- Here i Used to build a string with the data needed and just print it (e.g., SET @PrintString = @Value + N' ' + @Value2... ) -- PRINT @SPrintString FETCH NEXT..@Value, @Value2.. ... END I used to create a string and print that, but now I would like the results in a table form so that Reporting Services renders them correctly as a report. Should I somehow create a temporary table and insert the values in it and then have my query something of the form (INSERT INTO TempTable exec sp_StoredProcedure) ? Is this the correct way of doing it or should I go about it a different way ? And if this is the solution, how would I create this table and how would I actually return it ?     - Access a named parameter in an RDLC report in local mode I need information on how to programmatically access a named parameter within an RDLC file associated with a ReportViewer in local mode. I also want to verify that a parameter set up like this =Fields!personID.Value will return what I am expecting. For example if "LName" is displayed in a box and the parameter name is 'person_id' with the associated parameter value =fields!PersonID.Value then when the user clicks on the textbox with "George" then the ID for george will be available in that parameter and can be obtined programatically from the ReportViewer1_Drillthrough event.     - Help on installing Reporting Services NOT on Default Web Site Hello: Long story short, our IIS box does not have the "Default Web Site". And, for whatever reason, it does not appear that you can configure SRS 2005 to use a site other than the Default Web Site. I have followed Microsoft's instructions, on creating a new web site for SRS. The problem is that we cannot use port 80, because that is our Sharepoint port. (The instructions seem to indicate the typical port used is the one for the Default Web Site--port 80.) Anyway, when I went into SRS Report Configuration Manager to create a new virtual directory, it errorred-out saying that it could not create one. Has anyone out there been able to successfully configure SQL Reporting Services 2005 to use a site (and a port) other than the Default Web Site? If so, I really would like instructions for this, other than the ones that Microsoft has posted (because they are not any good).     - Problem with printing a SSRS report Hi I'm working with SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005. I'm creating an SSRS report and everything works fine...until I try to print it. When I do so on the local printer it prints fine, but when I run the application via Citrix and use ThinPrint to print it the report prints itself, but strangely, on paper I get black rectangles instead of my textboxes with information.     - change label, error with asp and network reports Hi, I hope someone can help me with three newbie problems . 1) When I have a user editable parameter in my reports, the user can edit the parameter and then hit the "View Report" button to see the report. Is it possible to change the label of the "View Report" button to something else? I basically need to translate "View Report" to a different language. 2) For some reason, I can't start my Report Server. All the configuration sections are OK except the "Web Service Identity" one. In that particular section, my ASP .NET Service account is listed as "COMPUTERNAME\ASPNET" where COMPUTERNAME is my computer name. The ASP.NET State service is started. When I hit the Apply button, I get an error stating: "There was an error setting the identity for the web service. The previously set identity will still be used." If I click "Tell me more about this problem... " it says "ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 8007056B" in the "SetWebServiceIdentity" function. 3) I am using SQL Express and I have two computers on a network (no domain, the computers are just in a workgroup.) I have both SQL Server Express and Reporting Services installed on Machine 1 together with IIS. Would it be OK to connect from Machine 2 to Machine 1 via IIS and navigate to the Report Server and see the Machine's 1 reports ?     - Connecting with management studio? I recently installed a new server with SQL 2005 Server and want to use Reporting Services. I've logged into the server as the local administrator, launched the Management Studio and tried to connect to the Reporting Services. It blanks the server name so I reenter it and click connect. That's when I get the error message listed below. I added the local adminastrator account as well as the Domain Admins account to the Distributed COM User group but I still cannot connect. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I connect to the Reporting Services Server? Heck, while I'm here, I was reading through the tutorials on Microsoft's web site and it tells me to go to the following URL: http://<serverName>/reports I find that when I go there, replacing the <serverName> tag with my actuall server name, it prompts me for login credentials but won't take anything I give it. If I go to http://localhost/reports, it works just fine. Can someone explain that too me too? Why does it do this? The server name does resolve in DNS. Is there a way to type-ahead on the dropdown parameter list? It only
accepts/looks-up first letter.

I have a list of 100's of items and type-ahead on more than one letter would
be VERY helpfull. Is there a way to achieve this in another way?
