    - Multiple data sources applied to the same report row Woulf anyone know, if RS would work with multiple data sources applied to the same report. For example, in a report, there are two data sources pointing to different servers and few of the report columns are associated with one data source and few with the other. How RS can handle this sort of requirement because supposedly there is no option in RS to create a dataset that is based on multiple data sources. There are few alternatives like using linked server logic or sub reporting however we are unable to find any direct way of accomplishing it. Tag: Float parameter & French RS Tag: 40496

    - File not found error when exporting I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and can help me. For some unknown reason all of a sudden the exporting of reports (to PDF, Excel) cause a "File cannot be found error". This started to happen last week after 12 months of error-free operation.     - Installing RS 2005 Beta 2 I have just installed SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 on my local machine. I am running Windows XP locally. I selected Reporting Services as part of the install as well. I have rebooted after the install but when I run the development environment it is still using the Reporting Services SP2 version I had installed before I installed 2005. I have looked in my local website and it hasn't setup a Reports and ReportServer virtual directory that I was expecting to see, and I can't find where it has put the ReportServer directory on my local machine. Can anybody help me getting it working with my development environment? I am trying to see if the new functionality will sort out the problems I have been getting.     - RS on SSL losing querystring in URL Hi, This is a live problem that Iam facing, There is this internet application (in SSL) which I deployed at my Client which access reports by calling something like https://in4suite.symphonysv.com/ReportServer?/reports/ChangeInDealSizeReport&rs:Command=Render&userid=3&regionid=0 Here is the THE PROBLEM. After I call the report (by clicking a link in the application) in the INTERNET application, it opens well taking the default values. When I change one value in any of the parameters, the parameter toolbar hangs with the white blank screen. There is no postback happening or it is hanging at the post back. So The customer cant do anything except see the report for the default values. I did this research. I called a report, When I right-clicked on the report page to see the Properties window, I noticed that the parameters in the URL which were supposed to be passed are not there. So the Address:URL looked like this https://in4suite.symphonysv.com/ReportServer?%2freports% It does not carry any info on the URL except the report folder. So I believe this is why the report is hanging. So this means the querystring is being lost. What is the workaround or trick to let the URL in full be available after calling the report the first time. This will help the post back occur Iam sure. Help Please.     - Mail several reports to one person in one mail? Hi! I wonder if there is a solution out there somewhere that uses the reporting services api to render reports as a batch and then delivers ONE mail to each user, even if there are serveral reports generated for this user. Some report recievers in my organisation recieves up to 30 reports each week, which is why I don=B4t want to send them 30 mails. Do anyone know if such a solution exist? I've set up a subscription in RS but it always fails with the error message "Logon failed" in the UI.     - Subtotal for a group I have a report with several groupings. The first group is by Vendor. The second group is receipts for a the vendor. Then there is details under that about the line items for that receipt. Vendor Receipt Amount Line Item A RCT1190 500 Item1 A RCT1190 500 Item2 A RCT1190 600 Item1 A RCT1190 600 Item2 A RCT1190 700 Item1 My first group is on Vendor. My second is on receipt. I want the vendor group total for Vendor A to be 1,800 (500+600+700). But it's calculating the doubles so i'm getting a total of 2,900. This schedule, as well as the subscriptions that use it, have recently been migrated from one server to another.     - This thing is pathetic (Yet another rant about grouping, page headers, and buggy software). All right, so I have this pretty basic report (which, btw, does NOT use tables (or matrix, or whatever the thing is called)) said report being used to gather signatures in the process of delivering phone books. So I want the stupid thing to page-break after every route. Simple, eh? In MS Access I could (and would) do it in thirty seconds. However the company I'm doing this for is migrating all their data services over to SQL/.NET, so I'm left to using the Reporting Services POS. If I group my data upon "Route", the following happens: 1. The data is lost. For example, route 1 has five signatures that are needed. Sometimes just 1 row of data appears, sometimes the first two. 2. You can't page break according to groups anyway because, well, MS forgot to add that function to the program (though they're perfectly pleased to tease you with it in their "How to add a page break (Report Designer)" explanation in the Online Book - but I digress). If I remove the grouping, all my data reappears, but it still isn't page-breaked (page-broke?) So, looking around this group and others I've tried the workarounds. This (http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_thread/thread/d5f12d3d666163ea/180e802e24e7aa0b?q=break&rnum=2#180e802e24e7aa0b) message told me to edit the RDL. Hah! That didn't work! Not only did it not page-break, but it removed all but one piece of data (no, NONE of my fields are set to "FIRST"). "1) go to the data region's Properties dialog box and check the checkbox "Insert Page Break after ..." " Now, perhaps I don't know what is meant by "data region": I'm assuming the guy mean Body, Page Header, Page Footer, etc. That could be the problem in understanding this post. However, if I'm correct, we now have the problem that the Body doesn't have an "Insert Page Break After..." checkbox in the properties. Am I supposed to make my report all in the Page Footer? (It wouldn't surprise me...) Then there's this: "2) Place a rectangle control from Toolbox and go to its Properties dialog. There is also a checkbox "Insert Page Break After this Rectangle". " Oh, THAT worked! Not only did it screw up the formatting to my report, it still a. Removed data. b. Didn't page break properly. So, I don't know. It's not the fault of the respondents that their workarounds didn't work, it's MS's fault for designing and releasing a program in which such workarounds are needed for such a basic function. I mean, <i>Ami-Pro</i> was capable of doing page breaks! I'm not a SQL programmer, but I'm stunned that MS would pass off such a buggy product onto their developers. I mean, when housewives making Christmas Lists have a more robust and intuitive report designer in MS Access than professional developers have in SQL, something is seriously wrong.     - Hiding Columns does not release spce used by column Hi, I have a report that has 12 columns, at least 4 will initially have data. As each month passes, another column will have data for display. I know that columns will have data and I have an expression to hide the columns that don't have data. My problem is that the last two columns will always have data (% inc/dec and $ from previous year). I want to colapse the space used by the columns that are in the middle of the report.     - Trouble installing SP1 and SP2 I'm trying to install the Reporting Services service pack SP1 but the install shield just hangs - after a couple of hours I've had to cancel the install. Has anyone else experienced a problem with SP1 install. I've installed many times before on different machines without a problem, I don't know why suddenly SP1 install is a problem.     - RS can't handle the load -- How can I lower concurrent requests? I'm running a report schedule with 400 reports on it. RS is trying to run the reports 8 at a time (according to the Performance Counter), and can't handle the load. It writes out four or so, then hangs for an hour, occasionally writing a successful report or failing a request with a "rendering error" or a "write failure".     - sum on calculated field I am trying to create a field based on specific criteria from another field and if the data matches, it places a numeric value in the field, else 0. The detail record works fine, but if I sum the calculated field, I get the error: The value expression for the textbox â??WheelParts1â?? uses an aggregate function on data of varying data types. When there is only a single item to drill-down on, I don't want my user to bother clicking all these + signs just to find out that there is not extra information.     - CSV in EXCEL = Users not happy I am rolling out reporting services at my company and so far, everything has gone smooth. The main problem for users testing reports has been that when they open a CSV file in EXCEL, it opens up with everything in the "A" column. Our current reporting platform does not have this problem and the users want to keep using the data in this format (CSV files in Excel). What I would like to do is to modify the CSV rendering format in order for it to put the CSV files straight out in ASCII format.     - Email from Acrobat generated from Report Services Hey I have made a report that will show up in the browser as a PDF. From the browser window you can now save a copy wich works fine. You can also send an email as a link or as a copy. This does not work to well: If i send an email as a link, an email will be sent from my adress to someone. That someone, will have the link show up in the email, but when that someone presses the link, he or she will just be guided to the page you were on. Since this is of no use to me (using parameters wich usually gets posted to the page) i would like to make that option disappear from the reports i generate. How can i do that? The second way to send an email is to send a copy. This is basically just the aspx page your on being copied to your email as an attachment. When you open the attachment its unreadable to humans.     - Totals in a Matrix report Hi, I have a pretty simple matrix with a dynamic number of columns and rows. The data I'm displaying is another field brought in from my dataset. I am trying to use the built-in Subtotal functionality, but the Total only displays the first value in any given column, so that the final report looks like the following: March April May Task 1 8 11 Task 2 14 Task 3 9 10 Task 4 5 Total 8 14 11 Has anyone seen this problem before or know why it may be occurring?     - Subscription Failing When I create a subscription, I get a "Logon Failed" when looking at the GUI for the subscriptions. I set up the ReportServer config file for SMTP Service, but this still has not worked for me. I still get a logon failed. I use a shared datasource and use stored credentials. My credentials are in the database for my datasource. I have tried other users including the sysadmin user and still get a Logon Failed. Do you have any other suggestions.     - Trying to get a header to repeat on each new page with subreports I have a large report which profiles a customer and produces many pages consisting of sales records, support calls and emails, etc etc. I have one main report which contains a list for the report header with the customer name, logo and some address and contact details, then all the other parts of the report follow at the bottom of the page as subreports, passing the account number as a parameter to get the required information. The problem is originally in Crystal Reports we had a header that repeated every page which showed the customer number and name no matter which part of the report was showing (i.e. as long as it was a new page no matter if it was halfway through a page of support calls there would be the header showing the customer name) I can't seem to get the same results in Reporting Services - as far as I know Lists can't do any sort of 'repeat on new page' functions. I can't put a list inside a detail row of a table - so I tried putting the subreports in one detail cell, which you can't do - I also tried making multiple detail rows, one for each subreport and using the header of this table to repeat across multiple pages This didn't work - it only put the header at the top of the page when a page break occured just after one of the subreports had finished output, if there was a page break during a subreport the report continues on the next page without showing the header This is how I have it set up at the moment... http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=9/26405042118.jpg&s=x7 Has anyone got any ideas on getting a header to work on multiple pages?     - Problem with displaying reports thru CheckPoint VPN I'm not sure if this is proper group for our problem - we have Reporting Services installed behind CheckPoint firewall and want to access it using CheckPoint VPN. Everything goes fine when external users are using static internet address - but when they are behind NAT reports in Report Manager sometimes "hangs" while generating reports (the page with spinning-wheal is displayed for infinite time, the status-bar in IE shows "Ready"). Our observations are following: =B7 The problem is periodic - it looks like something is happening every 9-10 minutes - if a report is short-time (max. 9 minutes of generating) and if I start generating it directly after connecting to VPN everything is OK. But if we start this later (e.g. 5 minutes) it will never stop generating (after about 5 minutes the IE status-bar shows "Ready" but user still have spinning-wheal page). =B7 It is only problem by the user side - records in ExecutionLog are fine - everyone has "rsSuccess" status and finite time of data retrieval, processing and rendering. =B7 There are no information about any disconnections or something like that - other applications that we are using (e.g. other .NET sites, ATG) works just fine...     - TAB character in reports I have to make a report, where there is a table which may contain several lines. Each line has this format (more or less): From : DD-MM-YYYY To : DD-MM-YYYY XX Days @ Rate Type of Work CURR XXXX.XX The CURR and XXXX.XX is simple as it can be in a different column in the table. However, the description isn't... The challenge comes in with displaying the dates directly below each other. Using spaces never looks very neat, and something simple like changing the font will cause a misalignment. In this case I cannot use a fixed-width font either. I thought the solution would be to embed a TAB-character in the function that constructs the description - I've done this successfully with CR and LF (ASCII 13 and 10) characters and that is interpreted correctly in the final PDF generated by RS. However, RS doesn't interpret the TAB (ASCII 9) correctly, it seems to be using a space in stead. I can think of other, much more complicated solutions (one is to embed a table in a rectangle in the main table and have my function return a top left, top right and bottom parts of the text seperately), but I was wondering whether anyone has any other suggestions.     - Serious issue with report builder - please help Hi everybody, I have been evaluating the usefulness of Report Builder as an Ad-hoc query tool and have come upon a most unpleasant issue: hopefully someone will be able to help and explain whether this is the designed behaviour or this is a bug to be fixed. The problem shows up when interrogating two entities which are related to a third entity via many-to-one relationship. It is not possible to group by fields from the tables on both ends of this relationship hierarchy. For example, in the AdventureWorks database we have the [CustomerAddress], [Customer] and [SalesOrderHeader] tables i.e. [CustomerAddress] {n-to-1} Customer {1-to-n} [SalesOrderHeader]. If the user selects a number of fields from the [CustomerAddress] it is not possible to add fields from the [SalesOrderHeader] directly (fields can be added only via an aggregate function e.g. Min). This becomes a serious problem when the user is not interested in aggregate data but just needs to display a list of records. For example it is not possible to list the [SalesOrderNumber] together with any field from the CustomerAddress table(or any table that is accessible via this relationship hierarchy e.g. the Address table). Effectively it is not possible to build a query that does a GROUP BY on SalesOrderHeader.SalesOrderNumber and CustomerAddress.AddressId. These tables and field are given only for illustration, so the question is not about these particular tables and fields but rather any tables in an equivalent configuration. This limitation can prevent the users from a great number of list oriented ad hoc reports and seriously diminishes the usefulness of report builder. Sorry it's a bit of a long one but the basic gist is that I'm having considerable trouble setting the right security settings for the Custom Renderer I've developed. There's some background here for you, but if you're short on time feel free to skip to "The problem" below! Thanks heaps for reading. The situation: Delightfully, users can choose to export a report to CSV format. This is fantastic, because my client needs RS output in a CSV file format so they can import it into an existing tool of theirs. The client likes to view this data by opening it in Excel before doing the import, to verify it is correct. However, Excel won't correctly open a file exported into CSV format from RS because the CSV file is created with Unicode encoding, as opposed to ASCII encoding. My solution: I spent some time doing research on modifying settings for the CSV renderer. It has a property called "Encoding" which can take the value "ASCII" if I want it to. Calling this from a URL is easy: simply append "&rc:Encoding=ASCII" to the QueryString. However, obviously I don't want the client to have to go to this level of technical ability to get their nice Excel-compatible CSV file, nor is setting up a separate page of links a viable alternative as it requires a higher level of technical competence from the user. So I decided to create a custom renderer. Initially I started to create one Implementing the IRenderingExtension Interface, and was going to custom-write all the code. However I soon discovered this was going to be a lengthy process, so I searched a little harder. I discovered the Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering.dll assembly, which contains the type "CsvReport". So my plan for my custom renderer was as follows: 1) Create an instance of CsvReport. 2) Set CsvReport's encoding to ASCII. 3) Render the CsvReport and return the result to the user. Furthermore (running out of ideas because of the problem below) I've also used the mscorcfg.msc utility to configure the assembly .dll to have Full Trust. The problem: I get the SecurityException shown in full below occurring in my RS logfiles when it attempts to load my custom renderer into the Export dropdown. The SecurityException doesn't occur if I remove the line "m_csvrendCSVRenderer = New CsvReport" from my code - however my custom renderer is obviously useless without that line. The error suggests that the CsvReport type requires any caller to have FullTrust - however giving my code FullTrust both system-wide AND in RS (as above) doesn't seem to have had any benefit. Hi,

I have a report receiving a float parameter. This report works fine with the
RS in English (OS, SQL also in English) but it fails with the RS in French
(OS, SQL also in French).

According to the RDL specification, a float parameter "uses â??.â?? As the
optional decimal separator."

When I generate my report throught the web service my float parameter has a
value defined with a dot as sperator and it fails only with the French
version.

Does the French version always expect a comma as decimal separator?
Is the expected separator depend of the RS version, the OS language, the
machine regional settings ?
