 - rs.exe error debugging - error on a receive - Help! I'm attempting to create a snapshot of a report on a remote server using a job scheduling tool (Autosys) running an RSS script with the rs.exe command-line utility. I've tested the script from my machine and it successfully creates the snapshot, yet running the Autosys job immediately fails with the following nondescript error: "Unhandled exception: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occured on a receive."  - How to convert parameter before passing it to the stored procedure I have a stored proc which accepts a date parameter as an int (YYYYMMDD) and which I do not want to change. I want to create a report which allows users to enter the date as a date and then convert this to the int format before passing it to the stored proc.  - Checking whether an external image exists Hello, I have a table containing an image with dynamic content. My dataset gives me a path to the image, now I can't be sure that the image actually exists in the file system so I check using File.Exists. This works fine on my development box but when I deploy it to my production environment, File.Exists returns false no matter what. Thinking it might be a security issue I moved the files from the original fileshare and placed them on the Reporting Services server locally. No effect. Along those lines I created a small test application which uses the same File.Exists method. The app is able to verify the files which exist correctly.  - Reporting Services Snapshots Access Denied Hi guys, I've set up a scheduled execution snapshots on a report; however, the snapshot could only be viewed once. After the snapshot file being created on rstempfiles directory, it cannot be acessed anymore. The error was 'Access to path "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\RSTempFiles\RSFile_da9ed300-e4a9- 4f7f-8ee7-48edf9ebedcd" is dnied.' I've checked the security on the RSTempFiles directory and the snapshot file, they both have users ASP.NET and SYSTEM with all permissions except the Full Control permission. Any help is appreciated.  - Line Chart X-Axis has too many point Hi All, I have a Chart line report that works great except when there are too many data points. The x-axis labels then get too cramped and become unreadable. I saw from another post that to fix this, you right mouse click on the chart object, select properties, select "X Axis" tab, set "Major tick mark" to "None" and "Minor tick mark" to "None". So I have "Major tick mark" set to "None" and "Minor tick mark" set to "None" and also set on my "X Axis" tab is: Checkbox "Show labels" is "Checked" and "Scale Minimum" = 0 (nothing else is specified). However, this is not solving the problem (i.e. the x-axis labels are still cramped together and unreadable). I called Dundas Software and their tech support department said they cannot provide technical support to me since I am using the Chart control packaged with SQL Reporting Svsc 2005.  - Custom Security Extension Example (somone HAS to have done this...) Ok, So I'd like to implement a custom security extension. I took the example from ms at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnsql2k/html/ufairs.asp Followed that tutorial word for word, and seems like everything went more or less without any hitches, however I get a myriad of server 500 errors... I beleive I've got the report server side of things wired up properly... if I try to hit http://localhost/ReportServer/, it prompts me for login, in which I can enter credential information, and then it gives me a permission granted is insufficient, which is ok, at least its not a 500. Reports/ wise, thats a diff story... I get the login prompt like I'd expect to see, it authenticates as expected, but when it goes to re-direct, it acts as if it doesnt have permissions to load Folder.aspx, so it then navigates back to UILogon.aspx.  - Moving the server Hello everyone, I found a similar question to this one in the newsgroups, but our scenario is slightly different. We have an existing server running Reporting Services on it. This is my DC for a W2k domain. The report server database itself is sitting on another SQL2000 box in the network. I have now been assigned the task to replace the DC, I have the server ready with the minimum configuration (the DC part of things will be done when the server is moved). Now I am trying to install the reporting services software. However the issue is that this new server is being built off site from where my actual server is. It is not connected to the domain where my production servers are hosted. 1. We are using the standard edition of the software - without the report designer plug-in. Am I correct in my assumtion that the custom reports that my client has created reside on the SQL server and not on the server where the reportsing services software is installed? 2. If I were to use the SQL server at my present location and install the software, how can I change the SQL server definitions once I move the server into production?  - Comparing aggregates in column chart Hello, I have a report with 6 levels of groupings for 7 different categories. At the top level, the report shows the average for each category (categories are average job time, average travel time, average returned minutes, last call average, first enroute average, and first onsite average) at the company level, subsequent groupings show averages for the same categories at the area level, the job title level, the center level, the supervisor level, and the technician level. These values are stored in a table with drill-downs to each level. I want to create 7 charts that compare the aggregates against each other. For example, one chart would be for average job time. I want the chart to be a column chart showing the average job time for the technician compared against the average job time for all technicians in his work group and the average job time company-wide.  - Can I sort on fields by in paramters I need to sort a report in 3 ways 2 fields and one expression. When i add a field to a parameter it says the following: "Fields cannot be used in report parameter expressions" The expression I need to sort on is this =(sum(Fields!p1beløb.Value) - sum(Fields!p2beløb.Value)) / (0.001+sum(Fields!p1beløb.Value)) It works if I use this as sort on the group item, but I need to choose between 3 kinds.  - Export To Excel Fails with more than one List in a Matrix SP2 + HotFix KB901383 I have a Matrix report that uses a second List box to group text boxes for sub totaling the group and the child columns of the group. The First List box is the underlying group for the report, the second list box is used to group the column (sub)categories. The report displays correctly, and summarizes correctly. I use EXCEL to format the report for printing to an 8.5 x 11 form factor... this what does not work Using the report preview in the IDE I attempt to export the file to EXCEL, this causes an "Specified cast not valid" error. The error is less specific in the browser, but it fails just there also. Other export options work, but I want my report and the columns on a single page for printing. Not spread out all over creation. If I remove the 2nd List box (and the text boxes that hold the summary expressions) thus removing the subtotals for column category, and the child summaries the export works. Adding the 2nd list (just an empty list with valid a group) causes the same error. Has anyone had an experience like this.  - Authinication on url We have some reporting services web parts that we got from the web. They are using a java script file to do some soap stuff to create a list of parmeters and values. The java script is using url access to get the information from another machine than the web server. it prompts us for the login id and password to the sqlserver machine.  - reporting service Proxy I am looking for a way, perhaps through the report web service? of generating drill down web reports accessible through a webserver on my DMZ. Scenerio is that my sql / reporting server is on my lan and the reports are available directly from my report server or from my sharepoint site using reportviewer web part. The sql server does not have a public IP address and is not exposed to the public internet. I want to create a secure website on my web server in my DMZ that will allow my sales department (in the field) to access the sales reports from my report server. I want to use ssl but not require the users to VPN into my lan. Is there a way to do this. If so, could you direct me to information on how to go about it. I have information on using the reportviewer control in an asp.net page, but that still requires the browser client to have access to the report server.  - Conditional iif statement Ok I have a sp that returns a number of records, each identfied as being part of a group based on the Type field. Type Name Amount 1 Test1 1.00 1 Test2 1.00 2 Test3 2.00 3 Test4 3.00 What I am using is iff(Type.value = 1, Price.value, 0) When I do this it works fine but when I use them middle records iff(Type.value = 2, Price.value, 0) it displays 1.00 as the price for type 2, and it should display 2.00 for type 2.  - A4 printing Hi, I have problems with A4 printing from the RSClientPrint activex. I defined the size of my report to 21cm x 29,7cm (the A4 format) but when printing the printer is set on a "personalized paper" format instead of "A4" format. So the user need to specify the A4 format each time he need to print a report. When I set the format to 8,5in x 11.5in the format is correctly detected by the printer as a "letter(8,5"x11")". So if it's possible to make understand to the printer that the format is "letter" it could be possible to make it understand the A4 format, but I don't see how. For me it's the last thing I need to make Reporting Services a valid end user reporting tool. I try this on several printers with several reports and they all do the same thing.  - Table Page Breaks and Visibility I have run into an interesting situation, and I wanted to check if anyone else has experienced it or even if it is possibly a known issue. I have created a table with one group and I have selected the page break at start option for this group. Everything works fine until I try to put an expression in the table's visibility property. Just by changing this property from "False" to "=False", I lose all of the page breaks and all my data is displayed on one page. This happens when the report is rendered to HTML in particular.  - permissions Hi all, Is there a way to add custom assembly to report without making changes to report server policy file? I mean is there a way to just add permissions required(in my case read permission) via code alone? is there a way to give relative paths in code group(for our dll) and permission set(for the file that will be read by our dll). Basically what i am trying to know is: Say i have a dot net application which will display reports using webservices and reports are using custom assembly which requires the above mentioned permissions. Sometime we get following error when we try to run a report: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online Help Cannot create a connection to data source 'PMO'.  - URGENT: Export to Excel on Mac using Reporting Services OS: Mac 10.4 (Tiger), Browser: IE, Excel: MS Office 2004 and Office X Report was rendered to Excel through Reporting Services. I cannot open the Excel file on a Mac. I have tried Office 2004 and Office X. Both are capable of opening Excel 97 (PC) through Excel version 2004 (Mac). If I download the Reporting Services Excel file on the Mac and then move it toa PC, I can open the Excel file. I then saved the file in excel and moved it back to the mac and it opens.  - Report rendered to EMF dimensions problem I've rendered report to EMF and obtain the image (matafile) with PhysicalDimentions 10,85% grater than the declared report size. I've tried to check it with different report sizes and always obtain the same surprising result: both width and height of the rendered emf were 10% larger than the paper size.  - Strange behaviour with RS on Windows Server 2003 hey, I've recently deployed reporting services onto a web server running windows server 2003 and have noticed somet very strange behaviour. We've a custom .net web app which uses URL access to run reports from within the app. All works fine and a report can be displayed. However - after ONE report is generated the web app becomes usless. All buttons and links completely lose their functionality and clicking anything only refreshed the page. It works fine and you can browse the site but as soon as one report is run everything stops working. Can anyone tell me why this might be happening?? I'm at a loss.  - Upper limit for Multi-Value parameter in SQL 2005 I am using multi-value parameter in SQL 2005. The base query uses the parameter as "where column in @paramname" I don't have any problems in VS environment, but I seem to hit an upper limit problem when the report is deployed and I view the report on http://reportserver. When i chose the "Select All", the report simply does not display anything. When the number of parameter values is reduced, it starts working. Is there an upper limit to the number of values / length of IN string that IIS can handle? Has anyone else faced this problem? I'm wondering if there is any way to use wildcards in a report parameter. Let's say I have a report that lists a customers transactions and that there are about 100 000 customers.  - Is VB.net required on rendering server? I have VB.net, SQL Server 2000, and SRS installed on my development computer. I can create and test reports just fine on my computer. However, I have to go through a third party for them to install SQL SRS on our web server. They installed SQL SRS with a warning about VB.net not being present. They are unable to render any reports (sample or otherwise). Is VB.net required on the web server running SQL Server 2000 development and SQL SRS development?
