    - Use of Report Builder for Reporting on Very Large Database -- A question... Just wondering if MS Report Builder is a good tool for creating adhoc reports on very large database that contains dozens of tables, several of them containing 8 million records each.     - Failure sending email in subscriptions I am running SQL 2005, I have the latest service pack on SQL 2005 and also on the Windows 2003 server. This is on a single server. I am using my Exchange 2003 server as my SMTP server which is on a different server with the same subnet. -When a domain user schedules a subscription it won't send an email. -When a domain admin schdules a subscription the email will get sent. -When a domain user schedules a subscription with ONLY the link option, it will send an email and the user can access the link. - I tried setting my RS config to use Local System and also Network Service, and that did not make a difference. In the RS logs I get the error... Success: False, Status: Failure sending mail: The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information., DeliveryExtension: Report Server Email, Report: Purchase Requests Ordered But Not Received, Attempt 0 I also get an error in the Windows event log when a subscription is created or editted, but I'm not sure if it is related. The error is.. Report Server (MSSQLSERVER) cannot load the Report Server DocumentLibrary extension.     - IIF Statement Issue Hi there. There's an iif statement that I'm struggling with on Reporting Services. This statement is on a calulated field. The iif statement is as follows: =iif(x=0, 0, ((y-z)/x)*100). In other words, if x is zero then 0 must be the output. Else the above formula must be the output. The syntax is perfect, and so is the logic (i think...). When I run the report it gives me a warning message that it cannot "divide by zero". What is obviously happening is that x is zero, but instead of displaying zero (as it is instructed to do so), it's going straight to the formula! Can anyone please tell me what's happening, and how I can make it work? Thanks in advance.     - Parameters question I am trying to create a set of parameters that will alow me to select data either based on criteria from dropdown boxes or from a text box. In my DataSet I have something like this (simpified) if @ItemDesc is null select citemno, cdescript, 0.0 as price from icitem where ..... else select citemno, cdescript, 0.0 as price from icitem where cdescript like @ItemDesc @ItemDesc is a value from a text box.     - Nested Data Regions with Multiple Data Sets In the simplest scnario I have dataset A that returns several records and then I have dataset B that accepts an ID from A and returns several records for that one particular record in dataset A, so the relationship from A to B is 1:M. I want to use nested lists to show a record from dataset A and then underneath that record show a table of all the records from dataset B associated with it. The data on the net relating to nested data regions is very vague and I have found no examples. So my questions are: 1) can I have a dataset B in the same report rely on records from dataset A as one of the input parameters? 2) how can I have these elements nested in a report? I have tried different things, but I get a lot of errors and I'm not making any progress. I know I can do sub reports / report linking, but I'm trying to do a master / detail, but my report will have many master records and associating detail records. Thanks.     - Error Message - Server is unavailable I am running the Report Services website on IIS6 on WIndows 2003. When I browse to the /reports website on the server, I get a message in big red letters saying that the server is not avaialbe and that more info is in the event log of the server. When I look at the server's Application event log, there are two errors Source: ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0 EventID: 1073 User N/A Description: Failed to initialize the Application: /LM/W3SVC/1/root/Reports Exception: System.IO.FileLoadException Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKey Token = b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.     - Excel Export Limit? hi, I'm having issues exporting "large" Reports into Excel. These reports create 11 separate worksheets with most not going over 7-10K rows on each sheet. I have been able to export "smaller" reports that have the same 11 Excel sheets but perhaps not as as many rows (1-2k a piece). When I try to export the large reports it ends up toasting the entire RS site, and i'm not able to get back into RS until it recycles itself 10-15 minutes. The RS server is a Win2K3 with 4GB ram and RS2K is the only thing running on it. Is this just a RS2K issue? Would upgrading to RS05 fix it?     - Calling the same report in a batch (rs2005) from aspx page Hi, what would be the best way to call the same report with diffrent parameters. right now I am calling the RenderInvoice which is called in a loop (view code below) is there a better way to do this, like a batch process? this works, and it does 50 reports in about one minute, I wonder if I can make it go faster. or it's just an issue of computer hardware.     - Verify Reporting Services install - no Report Server Hi, I installed the developer edition of SQLServer 2005 and the Reporting services. WHen I follow the "verify" instructions at this link: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143773.aspx To verify that the report server is installed and running 1.) Run the Reporting Services Configuration tool, connect to the report server instance you just installed, and review the status indicator for each setting to verify that it is configured. 2.) Open the Services window and verify that the Report Server Windows service is running. To view the status of the Report Server Windows service, click Start, point to Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services. When the list of services appears, scroll to Report Server (MSSQLSERVER). The status should be Started. I am not seeing a "Report Server (MSSQLSERVER), the closest one I am seeing is a "SQL Server Reporting Servies (MSSQLSERVER)" service, along with some other "SQL Server..." services.     - Running Count of Visible Groups Does anyone know how to get a consecutive count (1,2,3,4, etc) of groups when some of the groups are hidden and some are visible.     - Reportviewer parameters problem I've seen this problem in the group but no solution. I have a VS2005 .Net web app with the SQL 2005 Reportviewer control. The control is set for Remote, not local. The report has 5 parameters, all set to NULL as the default value. When the report is viewed, it comes up as expected. When I uncheck NULL, enter a date value and then 'View Report'. The report returns like it was originally with all parameters set to NULL. I do not get any error message onscreen or in the Report logs. This behavior only happens when I deploy my app to our server. When I run the app in debug mode locally, the reportviewer works just like I want. The reportviewer control points to the same report server. Any suggestions?     - Setup/Accounts question My environment: W2k3 R2 Sp2 on Web Server. W2k3R2 Sp2 on clustered SQL 2005 Sp2 servers. For SQL 2005 RS in the "How to: Install a Local Report Server and Remote Report Server Database" document (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143703.aspx), step 4 under "Install a Local Report Server and Remote Report Server Database" section says, "In the Service Account page, specifiy a domain user account". My question is what service is being referred to? I already have domain accounts for SQL server, SQL Agent and SQL cluster. Step 7d under "Configure the Report Server and Create the Remote Database", says, "In Credentials Type, select the kind of account used to connect the report server to the report server database. You can use the service account credentials or a specific Windows domain account or SQL server login". My question is: Is the "service account" referred to the same Service Account as in Step 4.     - Globals!ReportName behaves differently when SSRS integrated with M I have a report where I use Globals!ReportName in the header of the report for the report title. In Development and on SSRS stand alone the value for Globals!ReportName is in mixed case and the file extension is omitted. When the report is published to a MOSS server integrated with SSRS the value for Globals!ReportName is all in lower case and the file extension is included.     - SQL Server Service Pack 2 Upgrade - Gave us more HD space! We did an upgrade today to SQL Server Service Pack 2. Before that, we had to clear some data because the pack required 1gb. So we had 1.7gbs free on the server. During the install, I noticed the free space increasing. Now, after the upgrade, there is 2.52gb free. This can only mean one thing, the cache for reports has been cleared. Or is there another reason why we got so much space back? Reports are now running slower the first time around, which is also a reason why I mentioned that the cache may have been completely cleared. Does anyone know what other data has been cleared to free up space after the upgrade? Also, does anyone know where the cache for reports are stored on the server?     - Reporting Services Login Dialog Box Appears again and again. Login fails Hi, We are using reporting services 2000 and have provided URL access to the report server. Recently when some of the users are trying to access reports hosted on the report server, they are unable to login. After they provide their domain\username and password, the login dialog box appears again and again, and ultimately they are unable to access reports. this causes a lot of nuisance as their windows accounts are getting locked (by trying giving username and password again and again).     - Parallel Cube Build and subsequent Re-Name Hi Folks, I'm not certain if this is the correct group to post this question in, if there is a more appropriate one please advise. We have a cube that takes a little time to build, length of time varies by point in day and source SQL Server loading. While building the cube is 'off-line' and this is bothering the powers that be. As the underlying SQL Server data warehouse grows the time 'off-line' is bound to lengthen. . This cube is currently being built twice a day but a more frequent schedule of builds is envisaged. I have been tasked to investigate options, (if any of you wise folks have printable suggestions please post). One option that has perculated it's way to the top of the corporate consciousness is to build a duplicate cube in parallel to the original so that the original can stay on-line during the build. Then once the duplicate is fully built, drop the original and re-name the duplicate to take the originals place? RTFM on this suggestion doesn't get me very far and I am beginning to think that re-naming a cube is functionality that is not available? To make life even more fun I'm not a 'Cube' person, I'm just the data bod who as been given the task while the cube person's on leave.     - What have I done! (Messed up security) OK... I've made a boo boo... I added IUSR_... as a user with browse only role... I now know I should not have done that.. however, now I can't log on as administrator! It automatically logs me on as IUSR when I browse /server/reports, so now I can't remove the user.. I even went into the User and PolicyUserRol tables and removed the records for IUSR_ but it still just browses as that user...     - SQL 2000 report services will not install I have tried to install SQL reporting services eval software on SBS 2003 installation with ISA 2004 also installed. The install cannot find the default web sight to instal reporting services and always ends up reporting error-cannot find url when reporting services opened.     - Local Report Processing mode Hi, We have a scenario where we want to test the <a href> url generated by parsing the <Hyperlink> element present in the rdl file This check needs to be done without deploying the rdl file on the report server. So we are planning to use Local processing mode of the report view control.     - Setting up using a certificate I can't seem to get reporting services to work with a certificate. If I use the servername https://rx1/reportserver in both the aspx page calling and made the change to urlroot in resreportserver.config I get the following error on the apx page - "The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure" My verisign certificate is registered as www.mydomain.com If I change the aspx page and the urlroot to https://wwww.mydomain.com/reportserver I get this error- "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond" Also in the rsreportserver.config file I did change the secureconnectionlevel to 2 How do I need to set this up?     - Use "Last" Aggregate in Report Builder/Model In usual Reporting Services (rdl), there is "Last" Aggregate, in addition to Sum, Avg, Max, Min, etc. It simply displays last record in the aggregated rows. I can use "Last" Aggregate when I develop Report (rdl) using Visual Studio, but I cannot see that aggregate available in Report Model or Report Builder. Perhaps you the reader might not know, but lots of people in the media etc do. Remember, I was born in the UK and lived there until a couple of years ago. I don't think these people would condone state-sponsored murder of someone who might be seen on a good day as one of their own. b) Rather than doind anything directly, they're going for spying, verbal harassment, media harassment, every form of persecution short of the physical. Because as soon as anything turns physical, the police become involved; and unless it turns physical, the police can shrug and say 'not our problem'. So they persecute you and try to get you to react, either by hitting one of them (in which case I clearly find myself in the wrong as far as the police are concerned), or by trying to harm myself (in which case they can pretend they weren't responsible). It's a pretty unproductive form of harassment actually, because if you don't react then they're wasting they're time. If they have this power, then they will surely use it We still don't have all the facts from Mike, and the most pertinent here I think would be about his time at university - the people who took against him, the ringleaders. We need to know far more about Mike: his political and social affiliations, put in context with his univeristy years, the enemies he made, the reasons people ganged up on him at the very early stages. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories generally, but I know there is far more that goes on in the universities, old boy's clubs, civil and secret services and Parliament than is ever made public. First of all, I'd like to ask you to believe that my phone line in my apartment is bugged, and has been for many months. I have moved a couple of times this year, but "they" have faithfully been on my trail. Anyway, let's suppose my phone line is bugged. Now, when I talk to my internet service provider, it's over a SLIP (now PPP) connection. So if you wanted to bug what was said, either you'd listen in over the line and have to decode the transmission, or you could go to the service provider (more difficult) and ask them to decode a particular user's connection. OK, so now they're listening to everything I do over my SLIP/PPP connection. A couple of months ago I was messing around with faking articles through nntp servers and through anonymous remailers. I chose a nice inconspicuous newsgroup for my little tests, something no-one would ever notice. Guess which newsgroup I chose??? Yes, _FISH_!!! or rec.aquaria to be precise And guess what articles I tried to post? Goldfish, Koi carp and, you'll never guess... PIRANHA!!! The goldfish article and the Koi went through, but the piranha didn';t appear. by now you probably think this is too silly for words. But if you look in the papers a few eeks ago you will find John Major, Tonny Blair and Paddy Ashdown sharing a "private joke" about Major's sunburnt goldfish. We haven't had anything about Koi yet (they must be too dull ). Now, sent by someone who clearly knew what they were doing (they chose an Italian backbone site for their launch point) we have many thousands of messages to people all over the globe. All about piranha, and with the punchline "that gives you something to think about, doesn't it?" The way it works is that they're trying to kill two birds with one stone again. Sometime around August/Sept 1992 I was living in a house in Oxford, and coming out of the house was physically attacked by someone - not punched, just grabbed by the coat, with some verbals thrown in for good measure. That was something the people at work shouldn't have known about... but soon after a couple of people were talking right in front of me about, "yeah, I heard he was attacked". Again, one I went for a walk in some woods outside Oxford. The next day, at work, someone said "you know he went to the forest yesterday". I don't want to put details on usenet of what happened because to do so would be to risk it happening again. If you put ideas in peoples' heads then you can find them reflecting back at you, and I don't want that. Also I can't remember that much from three years ago. It smells very much of the security services, because there is no other organization (to my knowledge) which does the things I've seen these people do. Remember, they have deliberately chosen the softest of soft targets to victimize. They purposely chose a mentally ill person who they thought would be likely to kill himself anyway, so that they could get away with murder. And in all likelihood it will have started as a personal vendetta by someone. Who could that be? I don't know, but I can give you some clues. The first possibility (deep breath) is that someone from my college set me up. Six years ago I graduated from university in the UK, during the last year there I was steadily getting more and more ill. I know that I was talking in my sleep; although I don't know what I was saying, it got me a reputation, and if someone from my college talked afterwards to the "wrong" people then that could be the reason for all that has followed. I think that's the strongest contender for source. Directly beneath my room lived another bloke who frequently had his friends round late at night, after the time that I went to sleep. So they could have heard what I was saying in my sleep, and that could have got me the reputation for "talking to myself". What I don't know is why that should have rebounded a year after I left. You'd think it would have happened sooner; it's a bit odd to wait for a year and then start abuse. The reason I think it might be the former is that I got quite a lot of abuse along the lines of "sound-alike" or "double-entendre" at work, in particularly from Steve. So "double" inevitably came to mean split-personality, "two people in one"; "back" inevitably came to mean "backside", "come" inevitably meant you-know- what, "split" (well, we'd better split now) again you can guess, "bent" (of a similar bent), the list goes on forever. These aren't "nice" double- entendres intended for comedy, they're nasty words to humiliate and cause pain. If I could turn the clock back three years then I would sue my former employers for harassment and I would almost certainly win. I had to take pills after a year of Oxford, so they wouldn't be able to lie their way out of it. In the past, I would create MSDE back-end applications and delpoy the DTS runtime with the packages to handle Import/Export processes. I used the DTS runtime because for Imports and Exports since it was considerably faster than Jet or the .Net StreamWriter/Reader classes. Is it possible to distribute the SSIS runtime on non SQL Server machines? Also, does the new SQL 2005 Express edition with Advanced Services support SSIS?     - Getting at the underlying data Hi all, I have a requirement to get at the underlying data which SSRS is serving up to its renderer, prior to rendering. This is so I can use SSRS report builder etc. to create data exports which I will then format into very specific output formats for sending to other systems. In this respect I'm mostly using SSRS as a user-defined query tool - but I want to 'fix' the format of the output so I don't rely on the user to get the XML exactly right. I've looked through the docs quite a bit and cannot find a way of doing this - my only guess so far would be to write my own custom render extension that saved the data in the format of my own choosing - I'm ready to give that a go, if its the only way, but if someone could recommend a .net guide to doing this I'd be grateful. I have chart with data grouped by years and months. My data stops in Jan
2010 and the chart is showing this data with a year grouping of [2] instead
of [2010]. It appears to be truncating the year because it there is data for
only one month and it is the right most value in the chart. Any ideas on how
to force some extra space so that the entire year shows up? this currently
does not look very professional.

I'm having a similar issue. The user is able to select a date range,
and a time frame (monthly, quarterly, yearly) and pass those
parameters into the report. When the report is generated, the monthly
grouping is fine. But quarterly and yearly, the brackets extend beyond
the range of the graph and are cut off. Sizing the chart area doesn't
do anything, because the brackets grow with the chart area. I'd either
like to turn off the brackets and just have the Labels or force more
space into the chart that doesn't extend the brackets.
