    - Returning data from a class into a report parameter Hi, I need to return a list of possable options for the user to select in a parameter. I can write the class no problem, but i dont know what the correct way is return the data into the report, then add the values to a drop down parameter. I could return the list as an array, but how do i then remove the parts of the array in the report and add them into the parameter list?     - SSIS and SSRS integration Hi I'm trying to set up a Reporting Services report which consumes data from a SSIS package. I have a really simple package which just one data flow task. This task "transfers" a few records from an OLEDB connection to a DataReader Destination. When I try to consume these data in the Report Designer, Visual Studio gives me this errormessage: "An error occurred while reading data from the query result set. The SSIS IDataReader is past the end of the result set." I click OK and the error keeps coming back (infinite loop), so I have to terminate VS2005 "the hard way", of course losing all my changes :-( Possibly related: when I try to execute the dtsx package (directly in SSIS designer), the package does not fail, but it doesn't succeed either - the "building blocks" stay yellow, and don't become green.     - Reports Deploy. Hi, I have my report test environment in a LAN and the production environment in another LAN in another country. The production environment doesn't have Visual Studio. I want to know if there's another way to deploy reports in Report Server without to use the Visual Studio. Or, can I to deploy from my machine with Visual Studio to Report Server in another LAN??     - Folder has disappeared We have a folder which has disappeared in Reporting Services. When I try to add a new folder with the same name, I get an error stating that a folder with that name already exist. I think something is out of whack in the backend database.     - User account properties issue after domain account change Hi, We have the following issue with MSRS 2000. We have a user domain\jchapell. His domain account has changed to domain\jchapel (single L) His has Content Manager rights on all reports in one specific folder. However, since the change of his account he cannot manage report properties. He is getting "Insufficient rights" error. He can manage everything else, but "Properties" of the report. We noticed that the username in the database was not changed - possible bug, so we updated the users table to reflect his new user_account - domain\jchapel For some reason it is still not validating him correctly when he wants to view "Properties" of the report. You must manually initialize the report server before using it for the first time.     - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\xxxxxxxx.dll error in RS Wanted to share a fix for C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\xxxxxxxx.dll error in RS Hi Simon, I was able to fix a similar problem with the same exact symptoms (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\xxxxxxxx.dll error whenever any link in Report Manager was clicked on. Additionally, RDL's could not be uploaded to RS from Report Designer). In IIS Manager, stop and restart the app pool that Report Server uses. By default, 'Report Server' gets created under the 'DefaultAppPool' - so look there first and you'll likely see it. So right click on 'DefaultAppPool' and select stop, then start again. Hopefully this works. In my environment, this corrected the problem. There are settings in the Report Server app pool for worker processes and for security (like the account used) that may need to be adjusted to fix the problem long term if you continue to re-experience the error.     - Sharepoint Reports Pack Looking for anyone that is using or has knowledge regarding the Reportings Services Report Pack for Sharepoint... it involves so many different processes it's hard to determine where to post for help. I have been somewhat successful implementing the Sharepoint Report Pack on a development enviroment however the DEP log ends in an failed error that I know I caused but need to understand if it can be corrected. Data extraction failed at 1/13/2006 8:34:36 AM... Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException Invalid object name 'dbSPSReporting.dbo.tblProcessAudit'. There are some records inserted in the tblProcessAudit regarding successful steps the last being 'usp_Insert_FactSiteStorage - Insert Rows FactSiteStorage' - Is that the last step? When running the db creation scripts I renamed the dbSPSReporting to devSPSReporting and all references in the stored procedures etc. I'm afraid there is something hard coded in the DEP that I either need to change or go back and re-install the databases. The DEP runs with the same 'WARNING: Unable to access the the folders for the site "C9" at the URL http:...' that I've seen posted but evidently those are just to be ignored. Is there a way to remove them? Any suggestion or pointers to additional help (other than the deployment guide which I have scoured) would be greatly appreciated!     - SQL server 2005 - Business Intelligence Development Studio - Excel Driver problem Hello, I want to create a report model using the new Business Intelligence Development Studio which comes with SQL Server 2005. I have successfully created a data source and data view in BI dev studio and can right-click on the view & 'Explore Data' which works fine. When I come to creating the Report Model with the 'Report Model Wizard', I get the following error when clicking 'Run' to complete the wizard: ERROR [42000] [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] Invalid SQL statement; expected 'DELETE', 'INSERT', 'PROCEDURE', 'SELECT', or 'UPDATE' My datasource is a system DSN using the Excel Driver (version 4.00.6304.00) which ships with Windows XP. I have a named data range in the spreadsheet which I then select in for the data view in BI dev studio. To show that the driver is working with other apps, I've written a simple ASP page which uses ADODB to call the same system DSN and output the results of the data-range. This too works fine. Why am I getting an error on generating the model? Is there any fix for it or alternatively a work-around?     - Help with Report... Hello experts.. I have a report which has a single group. This group contains a header, details and the footer. The group header is repeated on each page and the page break is inserted after the group footer. Thus after every group a new page is created. The number of rows that are contained within the details section is dynamic depending on how many records that the group has at execution time, also if a row within details contains a zero balance this row is hidden. When the number of row within a group extends past a single page it will carry on to the next page... and page header repeats...and then the footer will be displayed.. This is where I am having an issue: If the total number of rows of the details section is just contained within a single page for some reason the footer line will appear on the next page. When this occurs this second page will for some reason not display the header (because the page break is added to the group, so as it is after the footer it believes it is still on the same page) I want the header to be repeated on every page irrespective of there being details. Does a new extension need to be developed or can I use the existing extension we have written for SQL Server 2000 RS. 2) Delivery Extensions ---------------------------------------- Has the API or configuration of delivery extensions changed in SQL Server 2005 delivery extensions? I have a fax delivery extension I have written and I'd hate to have to go back and rework that code. 3) Web Service Methods ---------------------------------------- Have the web service methods changed in SQL Server 2005? I have report written a report manager/viewer and batch report genarator/scheduler (think point + click subscriptions, its pretty slick ;) ) that relies heavily on the web services exposed in SQL Server 2000 RS and would like to know if I can just point this at a SQL 2005 RS installation or if I am going to have to go back in write a new version for SQL 2005 RS.     - Failed to access IIS metabase When trying to access http://machinename/Reports I receive the error above. I installed sql reporting services 2005 and sql server 2005 on a local xp pro machine. IIS is running. I can access the http://machinename/IISHelp page just fine. I did the aspnet_regiis -ga that it suggested and stopped and started IIS and still get the same error. Any help of course would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to convince others here that Reporting Services and SQL 2005 is the way to go for us.     - Scheduled Jobs and Credentials Question This is a two part question: 1. I have set up a Execution Account for my scheduled jobs, but when attempting to append a report to the scheduled job I get a "Credentials" error with the data source. The only way I've been able to get around this is to hard code the credentials in the data source property for each of the reports. This won't work for me in the long term. What can I do other than fill in the Execution Account in the RS Configuration Manager? 2. I have a set of tables that require higher levels of security, but the data depends on Scheduled jobs. Do I need to set up the credentials on a report by report basis (for security reasons), or can I set up the Execution Account to kick off the reports and validate permissions through some other means?     - List grouping pagination problem I have a simple Master/Detail report with a list for the details. I'm trying to get it to only show a specified number of details on each page. So I added a group to the list with this expression: =System.Math.Ceiling(RowNumber(Nothing)/3) and checked the page break at end. Here's the problem, it only shows the first row on each page. For example on the first page it only shows the first row, on the second page it only shows the fourth row, etc. Anyone know what happened to the other rows?     - Appending a Custom SQL where clause in adhoc reporting useing Report Model I am in the process of evaluating SSRS 2005 to replace an home grown reporting tool. In my reporting application all users have access all the tables\fields in the database. In the home grown tool, data security is implemented by the following mechanism. When users run reports, a standard sql where clause is appended to the sql generated by the reproting tool. ( for eg: 'AND sysem_id IN (SELECT System_id FROM Mdu_system where user_id=@userID') I am trying to make use of Report Model so that my users can create adhoc reports based on the report model. In all the adhoc reports created by my users based on a report model is there a way in I can append a standard where clause similar to the one above to every report just before it is run? Does it have an event model, I can hook into? Also Is there any I could pass in a userID (Not NT) tot the reporting tool and use it to replace the parameter in SQL generated?     - POSTing report parameters We are having an issue POSTing report parameters to reporting services. One of our report parameters can be very long (hundreds or even thousands of characters) and is far to long to pass on a URL. Our solution has been to POST the parameter, which does work, but not quite as we want it to. We only need to provide a single parameter to the reprt as all the others have default values. The report generates and displays results as expected, however the parameter selection and report navigation section is not visible on the report that is rendered. If we POST the parameters, is it possible to get the parameter selection and report navigation sections to show? and, if so, how? The report is being called from a custom app which passes the parameter to the report. We would like to share our investigations with the forum. This is applicable to SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005. Data Source is URL Addressable XML content. [1] We realized that XPATH expressions in the xml query do not work. Very limited set of XPATH expressions are supported For example, XPATH supports // [ ] expressions. But these are not recognized in the qeury. Also, I am not sure how Teo picked up the syntax (thanks Teo, it helped us to proceed to some extent) of using { } instead of [ ].     - Appending a custom sql where clause Hello, I am in the process of evaluating SSRS 2005 to replace an home grown reporting tool. In my reporting application all users have access all the tables\fields in the database. In the home grown tool, data security is implemented by the following mechanism. When users run reports, a standard sql where clause is appended to the sql generated by the reproting tool. This standard where clause has @userID as the parameter.     - Getting underlying sql for ad-hoc RS2005 report I've been able to get the underlying sql from the .rdl file for Reporting Services 2000. However, I want to be able to leverage the new Report Builder available with the new Reporting Services 2005. However, the problem is that Reports designed with the ad-hoc Report Builder no longer use embedded sql as the source. I need the actual sql to pass to another application to process the dataset (which I've found to be the best performing method). Given the comments in this article (http://www.devx.com/dbzone/Article/28047?trk=DXRSS_DB, bottom of first page)... "...the ad-hoc report definition includes a semantic query that describes the model entities selected by the user rather than being pre-defined by a developer." "...the Report Server extracts the semantic query and forwards it to the Query Translator. The Query Translator translates the semantic query to a SQL query, using the SQL syntax understood by the underlying data source." Does anyone have any ideas on how I could do the same? Are there any object libraries that Reporting Services 2005 makes available that I could leverage to do this translation? Does anyone know of any other way to achieve this result? I know worse-case secenario I may be able to call the render method, and request the csv, then stream this to my etl application.     - SQL Server does not exist or access denied When I run reports directly from the SRS they run fine. When I try to access the reports over the internet then I get this message once in a while. If I run the same report from the SRS then I can run it again in the browser on the client. I am running a database server with SQL 2000 SP4 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server and SRS on a seperate box, Windows 2003 Server. When run on the development machine it works fine. When I run it from the SRS machine the reports work. When I run the reports from a client sometimes they come up with the message above. Go Figure.... Anyway, if anyone can give assistance please do.     - Reports not rendering on Internet Application Hi We have developed an asp.net internet app and some of the pages have an RS report contained within a frame. Some of our customers appear to have problems accessing the report content - the only part of the report they can see on the page is the page numbers box from the RS toolbar and a box with a red x (missing image).     - Subreport performance I've worked with Crystal and Access and now SRS and I have a question regarding subreports in SRS. Take a standard header/details report in which the details are a subreport (in this case we can't put all the records in one Stored Proc. Do the parameter link and it all works fine except when we watch it in profiler it acts like crystal, making individual SP calls to return the data for each detail section. This is where we find performance degrades. Our particular circumstance is that we will have a header with 3-4 detail sections that all share a common parameter with the header and filter to that parameter. Because of this configuration is makes it impossible to return a single dataset with all the relevant data. The header itself will return 500+ records and combined with the 3-4 detail sections could be over (500 x 4) 2000 sp calls. Sloooow. Seems to us that MS Access did the best job at this.     - Report Builder - Entities list behaving poorly. While attempting to create a new report, I came across what I feel is some odd behavior. I select an item in the Entities list, then drag an item from the newly populated Fields list to the report area. Once I drop the field item, the Entities list changes scope showing only the Entity from which I made a selection and any items within it. I can't get back up to the main list unless I undo the operation. Being relatively new to this domain, I considered that I might be expecting behavior that I shouldn't be, however, when I checked the tutorial provided, the instructions led me to believe I was right in being perplexed, thus this post. I think I either have an option set wrong or installed something wrong. When
I try to create a New Data Source in Data Model project, the dropdown box for
Provider is disabled and so SQLclient Data Provider is all I can do. I would
like to add a connection to an ODBC data source, which I should be able to
do. Any suggestions on what I can change to enable me to select the Provider?

Semantic modelling in Model Designer supports native SQL provider only.
