"Paste" always pastes same text
Hi,
I need to individually copy and paste a list of names into a text box in
Publisher 2003. However, the Paste command (Ctrl-V or Edit/Paste) in
Publisher seems to be "stuck." Each time I copy a name and try to paste it,
the very first name I copied and pasted appears, not the name I just copied.
I've tried emptying the Windows clipboard, but this strange behavior still
occurs.
The original names come from a multipage Word 2003 document. I've tried
copying the names to Notepad to be sure they are in plain text, then copying
and pasting them into Publisher. I've also tried copying the individual
names from an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. Still, only that same first name
pastes into Publisher.
What's going on? Does Publisher have its own clipboard? I've copied and
pasted text many times from Word and NotePad to Publisher, but it just
doesn't work this time.
Thanks for any help you can provide with this puzzling problem.

publisher trial probs
First of all I am NOT computer savvy. So talk to me like I'm stupid. ; )
I recently downloaded Office 07 trial and designed a business card. I am
having problems getting it to print correctly to Avery 28877 (they are
severely off center).
Tried to print them in Word (which I assume came with the trial) but there
is no "Tools" on the toolbar (in Word or Pub) where the
mailings/envelopes/labels drop down menu should be. When I try to open up my
business card in Word all I get is a pop-up window that reads "file
conversion" and what appears to be an encrypted version of my project.
I have an Avery button on the toolbar but all that does is supply me with
Avery blank templates. I tried giving upon my projeect and use the Avery
template but they appear to be limited in their creativity(?)
Avery was not able to help when I contacted them and suggested I contact
Canon (my printer is a Pixma MP150) and have the newest printer driver
installed. Canon replied back that there should be no problem with printing.
Tried contacting MS because if I read their language correctly, I have 90
days free support. When I enter the product code (it is correct) I am told
that this is an invalid ID. (81605-318-9013393-65171)
I may be making more out of this than I need to simply because of my limited
skills so any assistance is appreciated.
Thank you. ~Ken Tag: xp to vista Tag: 174267

Inserting a picture into my publication blocks the text I have on
All I am trying to do is insert a picture onto my publication. I have my
logo at the top and I am trying to insert a picture underneath it. Every
time I insert the picture it blocks out the text on that portion of the page.
I have tried everything and nothing works. I have tried making it
transparent, etc. etc. I know how to put a picture in a picture frame and/or
a text box, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it is blocking the
text up above it. Someone please help..... Thx. Tag: xp to vista Tag: 174252
Changing page numbers
Is there any way of making page numbering start at a different number?
I created a 16 A5 page document, the first two and last two sheets were a
cover page which I printed separately.
When I printed pages 3-14 I was asked if I wanted the pages to be printed as
a separate document and I replied YES. However the page numbering on this
separate document started at page 3 - I would have preferred page 1.
The obvious solution of deleting pages 1,2,15,16 did not work. When I
deleted pages 1 and 2 the text moved on leaving blank pages. I realise now
that the text of the document was a continuous stream and I had not deleted
that part of the stream which was pages 1 and 2.

Publisher & Vista
Hello. A stupid question perhaps. I have Publisher 2003 and use it quite

*Color problems with fonts
This has me stumped. XP sp2, Office 08, Publisher 07, swimming with memory.
I have a text box with "red" text, 48pt (as it's supposed to be) but on the
screen the text color looks blue. When I highlight the text and try to
change it from the blue I see, the font color dialogue box tells me that it's
already red... but on the screen it shows blue! No kidding. When I print
the document, it prints red.
Now here's the strange part. I'm on a network where our tech support can
log on remotely. I had someone log on to see what I was experiencing. I had
my document up with the "red" text showing blue. He logged on and when I
clicked the â??OKâ?? permission button for his connection, my text turned red on
the screen. As soon as he logged off, the "red" text turned blue again.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Publisher 2003 Printing Issue
Hi,
My client has Office 2003 SP3 installed under WinXP SP2. They are having
trouble with printing a newsletter from Publisher.
The publication is an 8-page newsletter in "booklet" form. Each page is 8
1/2 by 11.
The printer is a Konica copier with large-format (11x17) and duplex
capabilities.
Everything works fine when the user prints the entire booklet to the
printer. They get one booklet ready to fold. One sheet of paper has pages 1,
2, 7, and 8. The "inside" sheet has pages 2, 3, 4., and 5.
However, the user needs to be able to print several hundred copies of each
sheet individually. (The mailing house does the collating, stapling, and
folding.)
So far I have been unable to figure out how to tell Publisher to print pages
1, 2, 7, and 8 in duplex form (1 and 8 on one side, 2 and 7 on the other
side). The Print dialog only has a From and To option, not the box like Word
where you can type the list of pages.
How can the user print one sheet at a time for this newsletter?
Thank you,

Selecting 8 1/2 x 14 size paper using templates
If I select a template, such as the newsletter template 'newsletter > color
band', it defaults to 8 1/2 x 11 paper in a portrait mode.
If I change the paper size to legal (landscape) I would have thought the
template would adjust for that different page size, but it doesn't.
What do I have to do if I want to use the legal papersize (so I can fold my
publication like a book and mail it out) without having to redesign a
template?
I'm using Publisher 2007, by the way.

WordArt in Publisher 2007
I just upgraded from Publisher 2000 to Publisher 2007 and I just can't figure
out the changes to WordArt...
In Publisher 2000 when I created a new WordArt object, I could select a font
size from the dropdown list or manually type in a specific font size OR I
could select the "best fit" option to have the WordArt fit in my frame. So,
if my frame was large and I selected a small font size, WordArt would just
leave my font size small with a large frame around it. If my frame was small
and I selected a large font size, Publisher would ask me if I wanted to
resize the WordArt frame to fit the font size...but it would always leave my
font size as I selected it.
It doesn't appear that I can do this in Publisher 2007...It always appears
to be in "best fit" mode. If I select a specific font size and type in the
text for my WordArt and then change the size of the WordArt frame, Publisher
keeps adjusting the font size to fit the frame which defeats the purpose of
selecting a font size when I created the WordArt in the first place. Also,
what happened to the "best fit" option and why can't I manually type in a
specific font size instead of choosing the predefined font sizes in the drop
down menu and why doesn't WordArt leave the font size as I selected it?
Also, I'm completely frustrated with how "size" works when I am "Formatting
WordArt." I dont' understand how inches come into play when letters are
measured in font sizes, not in inches...For example, if I chose a 1inch size
for the letter "e" in one WordArt frame and chose a 1inch size for the letter
"y" in another WordArt frame...if I put them side by side, the "e" is
stretched out to fit the 1 inch frame and the "y" is not because it is a
longer letter with the tail of the "y" taking up part of the 1 inch frame and
they look like completely different font sizes even though the "size" for
both is 1 inch. I would prefer NOT to change the font in inches, but then I
can't manually type in exactly what font size I want anymore, I have to
choose on of the predefined sizes.
So...getting to my question(s)...Does someone have answers to the whole font
size thing in WordArt? Is there a tutorial that I'm missing? Is there
something that compares WordArt in Publisher 2000 to WordArt in Publisher
2007 so I can figure out the things I need to do 2007 that I used to be able
to do in 2000?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blacked-out fonts
Hi folks, help me keep the rest of my hair.
Trying to create a PDF from a Publisher document, full of graphs and pie
charts. On two of the charts, the font comes out as black blocks once saved
to a PDF, though the others are ok.
Have tried changing fonts and reducing the length of the horizontal axis by
taking a few values out, but once saved to PDF again, the black blocks come
back. Just thopse two graphs. Don't know if it's significant that it happens
along the horizontal axis, but the fonts on the vertical axes of the others
seem fine.
Thank you SO much

Designing Clip Art for the non-artist
Greetings all.....
This might be a little off topic, but hopefully someone will have the knowledge and / or
expertise to answer.
I'm in the entertainment field and there is a lack of ' off the rack' clip art. So it
seems the best thing to do is create what I need for business cards, brochures
and flyers.
At this point I'm clueless.... what software packages or recommendations do
you suggest for creating clip art.
I have camera's and can take pictures of related objects, but I'm not sure how to
convert them into simple clip art.
I can also trace objects that I'm interested in, and scan them in, but I haven't a clue
on how to color them professionally, outside of using a paint program.
I have both Adobe Creative Suite and Macromedia Fireworks 8....but they seem
to be overkill for what I'm trying to accomplish. They both have a learning curve....
and so far I've found that Fireworks is a difficult program to work with.
Any help for a newbie would be greatly appreciated... even a link to another
newsgroup or forum where the answer can be found.
Thanks in advance (again )

business card question - landscape on front - portrait on back - Publisher 2007
Greetings all....
Perhaps someone has done this before in Publisher 2007.
I am designing double sided business cards. Using an Avery Form 8871.
The front of the card is designed in landscape mode i.e. short side is pointing up
A new page has been started for the reverse side using the same template. This
page also shows in landscape mode. (short side pointing up)
How do I design this in portrait mode with the long side pointing up. All I'm looking
to do is just rotate the card so I enter the printing in portrait mode.
Using page layout, changes the publication format to a custom card instead
of Avery 8871. Rotation controls just deal with the object on the page.
How can one rotate the image on an existing template so that it can be
designed in portrait mode ??
Thanks in advance !!!

"Publisher cannot open the file" error. AHH!
I have a catalog I've been updating for publication at the end of Feb. I've
got many hours into the rehash. I last worked on it 1/24. I opened it
tonight... got the error of "Publisher cannot open the file". I ran error
recovery on reboot, I copied the file and tried to open the copy... all to no
avail. I had autorecovery turned on, but there is nothing I can find for any
sort of backup. I tried a couple recovery apps, but I don't care about the
text, I need the layout/images/text as a whole.
I had a hunch and noticed I did a Microsoft Update on the system the same
day. Anyone else have such a problem?

Links to Graphics / Tables in Excel & Powerpoint - Huge File Sizes
Hi all,
We are currently using Publisher 2003. If we create a publisher file with
links to Powerpoint presentation slides and excel spreadsheets (copy - paste
special), the file is massive.
We tried saving it as a 2000 format file, and it shaved off around 70 meg.
I downloaded Pubilsher 2007 and doing a 'Save As' knocked the file size down
to 61, I did a test earlier and from a 104 meg file it was down to 24 meg.
Is the large file size a problem with 2003?
Thanks,

What type of merge file are you using?
What version of Publisher are you using on each machine?
What error message do you get?
Without any clues as to versions, error messages and just what you are
doing, we will never know.
