I have inserted a picture into an auto shape and I want to soften the edges
of the picture so it "fades" out around the edges. I could do that in my
"Printshop" program very easily but can't seem to do it in Publisher. Please
help.

While Publisher has some editing capabilities, it's not a graphics editng
program. Do the work in Printshop and then insert the final results into
your publication.
