Somewhere along the way the colors that appear are not the same as what is
suppose to be for fonts and clipart. They are not shown the same as when I am
choosing the color from the color chart or orig clipart picture.

For example I choose a clipart with red hearts, when I import it it becomes
orange. If I pick a purple font it fills in as brown. Now it all prints
correctly but it is very hard to design when the colors on the screen are all
messed up. How do you fix this, does anyone know? I am still using
publisher 2000. THanks

A upgraded video driver might help. Go to the manufacturer's web site and look
around.
Are you using color schemes?
