I have a stupid question. I am installing my own version
of Publisher 2000 on my new laptop. I have misplaced my
key code. Is there any way to find it on my old desktop?

How to obtain a new product key for Office program setup

To obtain a new product key for your Office program, call 1-800-936-5700 and
speak to a customer service representative.

When you call Microsoft for a new Office product key, have the following
items ready and available for the customer service representative:
a.. The product CD-ROM.
b.. The computer that you want to install Office to.
c.. The readable parts of your original product key (if available).
d.. The ProductID information in the Microsoft Windows Registry.

To find the ProductID information for Office (if available), follow these
steps:
1.. Quit all Microsoft Windows programs.
2.. Click Start, and then click Run.
3.. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
4.. Expand the registry to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

5.. In the Uninstall key, there may be a number of GUID keys that
contain long names (a combination of alphanumeric characters).

Each GUID is specific to each program that you have installed on your
computer.
6.. Select a GUID, and then view the DisplayName in the right-side pane.

If the DisplayName is not your Office program, continue to the next
GUID.
7.. After you find the GUID that contains your Office program, find the
ProductID key and make a note of the Data column value.

Note The ProductID for your version of Office may not appear in the
Office GUID on your computer.
