This has been driving me crazy.

I am a loyal user of the discontinued Microsoft Photo Draw. I have an image
which is oval. I cut it out (the oval) and copy it into publisher and place
it over a block of color. Although I cut it out as an oval, it inserts as an
oval within a square, with a white background.

Is it possible to do what I am attempting with these two programs?

I'm not familiar with PhotoDraw but can you
save your cutout as a .png? Maybe that format
would retain the transparency.

Which version of Publisher are you using?

In Pub 2007...you can select the cutout
and on the Picture Toolbar...left click the
"Set Transparent Color" button...then left
click the unwanted white background to
make it transparent.

John,

I am using Publisher 2003. MS Photodraw does allow saving as a .png.

Your reply was definately helpful. I was unfamiliar with the "Set
Transparent Color" option on the picture toolbar. I can see that this would
work perfectly on solid color graphics on an alternate color background. The
graphic I tested it on had a white background with some white text and space
within the graphic, thus erasing both.

I think I can come up with some work arounds . . . . Thanks!

You're welcome.

Try saving your cutout in the .png format
and maybe Publisher will recognize the
transparency.
