In Publisher 2003, I created a 20 page booklet. The first six pages were
created separately and then on pages 7-20 the text boxes are linked. I
inserted page numbering and chose the option to not show page numbers on the
first page.

The problem is that the page numbers appear only on pages 7-20. I can't
figure out why pages 2-6 don't show the page numbering. I'm assuming it has
something to do with pages 7-20 having linked text boxes.

Can you suggest how to get the page numbering to show on the pages 2-6?

Thanks.

Are you sure the page numbers aren't covered by objects? Did you apply a
section?
Go to the Master pages, are the page number text boxes there?

The pg numbers aren't coveed by objects. The pg numbers are on the master
pages. If I applied sections, I didn't realize it. How do you check that?
I'm not familiar with sections in Publisher.

Thanks, Mary

If there is a section break, there will be a slightly larger gap between the
two pages than appears between the rest of the pages in the publication.

Open up the Master Pages task pane (the easiest way to do this is to press
Ctrl+M twice to take you to a Master Page and back again). Do you have
different Master Pages applied to different pages of your publication? Do
you have some pages set to Ignore Master?

There doesn't appear to be any section breaks. I have the same master page
applied to all pages. However. I now see that the pages that aren't showing
the page numbering are the pages where I said ignore Master Page. Will that
also take out the page numbering? I thought it would only ignore the other
items I put on those master pages. Do I need to set up a second master page
with the page numbering and remove all the other details I want ignored on
the master page?

Ignore Master Page does everything it says on the tin. The page numbers are
on the master page, so they're ignored.

Yes.

I created a new master page and then applied it to the first 6 pages with
page numbering. That worked.

Thanks Ed & Mary for your patient help. I'm learning a lot from your
answers to myself and others.
