If i put a clipart or text in box and stretch to fit whole page, when it's
printed it doesn't seem to fit on bottom of page - there's a gap of approx
3.5cm outside the border whereas the gap on the top is 0.75cm outside the
border - using office 2000 and this has only happened since reinstalling my
computer - have i changed the settings on something else by mistake that may
have caused this?

Will your printer allow you to print to the edge?

funny you should ask that because i've had problems with my word documents
too, work i'd saved that used to print out normally and now the bottom margin
has changed and i've had problems with getting my footer where it was before
- again larger gap on bottom but the margins are all set the same as far as i
know - it recognises that its A4 thats all i normally use so thats the
default size. On the publisher i just used to click on size and fold and had
no problems. What do you suggest. P.S. I'm quite a novice but a good one soo
you might have to explain in detail so i can follow. Thanks for your interest

You mentioned "reinstalling my computer". Do you mean you reformatted it? If
so, you may want to see if there are new drivers available for your printer.
Go to the manufacturer's website and see what they have.

Not sure what reformated means but i dont think so, but i did try to get
textbridge to work for direct scan to scan & copy and theres a browser button
on bottom right on printer on screen to go to c-drive & then kodakimg - which
wouldn't work and i'd say thats where the prob began - i'd forgotten about
that! It's a mustek scanner & epson printer and eveything was fine including
direct scan before i reinstalled windows 98se and office 2000 - i'm baffled
and waiting patiently for your next comment. Thanks Kanneily

"Reinstalled Windows 98SE" - ding, ding, ding. Did you back up all of your
important files and then completely get rid of everything on your computer
before you did that or did you just stick the disk in and "reinstall"
Windows?

(My money is on the second option.)

You need to completely uninstall your device drivers and then re-install. This is
probably the best solution.
Go to this web site,
How to clean up printer drivers
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm
It might be helpful to go to Epson and Mustek for newer drivers as well.

Open your printer folder, look at the properties there to be sure the default is A4.
Windows may have defaulted to the standard US letter size.

thanks for that, i'll take everything of and start again - will i need to
uninstall my printer, scanner etc too- (everything?) Post mortems are not my
thing, but if need be i'll give it a go. I have the remains of a mustek 600
that will not uninstall - will that be a problem? Will i need it's disc to
uninstall It? I am a bit of a novice as i said.
I thought if i just stuck 98se back in it would be fine but obviously not.
I'll wait for a reply before i do anything as iv'e loads to back up and no
cd-rw just floppy drive. Thanks a million - things r looking up.

When you take everything off - do a COMPLETE reformat. Wipe EVERYTHING off
and start with a bare slate.

As for your Mustek scanner, believe me, when you reformat, it will no longer
be on your system. Nothing will be. We are talking about your computer being
a putty-colored paperweight until you reformat. My favorite analogy for
putting the Windows disk in to fix a problem is like the fairy tale of the
Princess and the Pea. All the extra mattresses ever did was to bury that pea
a bit deeper.

An alternative to reformatting your HD - buy another one. Set it as
Master and your current HD as slave. Put Windoze and your programs on
the new HD. You'll still have access to all your data files and even
some programs that are on your old HD.

JoAnn,

I have all my programs and data files on C:, an unpartitioned drive. The
advice I got from many people was that it would decrease the HD's head
movement when searching for files. But my D: drive is one I kept that
had backed-up files and, I'm sure, thousands of files I'll never open.
It has proved useful, as it still has Win98 on it, including my fonts
file. If I open a file that uses fonts not installed, I can pluck them
from D: and transfer them to C:Windows\Fonts in a hurry. But this plan
isn't foolproof. I use a font called Ancestory SF (or something similar)
in some files. Try to find it among 250 fonts. It's real name, which
only displays in C:Windows\Fonts is yosh.ttf

BTW, I'm really disgusted at the fonts Win XP seems to install. Dozens
of things I don't need. :-(

A big thanks to all who replied and a special thanks to Mary Sauer - my
printer was indeed set for US Letter 8 1/2 x 11ins instead of UK A4 210 x 297
cm - problem solved. I only found this site last week and think it's brill!
Keep up the good work all.
