I already have Office XP without publisher installed on my windows XP
computer. But I now have the need to install Publisher 2000 on it as
well. The Office XP version I have is without Publisher, while the
Office 2000 has it.

When I try to install pub 2000 on my pc, I get the following:
1. Enter in product key.
2. I get an error stating it couldn't find a version of office "Setup
failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine. Please
select the drive where a qualifying product can be found."
3. When I point it to the C:\ drive it then gives me an 1608 error
message.
"Error 1608. Could not find any previously installed compliant
products on the machine for installing this product."

Please don't tell me that I need to un-install my office xp in order
get publisher 2000 installed. I really don't want to do that.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Put in the first CD and when offered to Install, select Custom Install.
Then select only the Publisher 2000 feature. There may be features for the
Images, Spell Checker, etc; select the ones that will assist the use of
Publisher.

Apparently you have an *upgrade* version, not a full version. It's telling
you that it can't find anything to upgrade. I'll bet if you look at the CD,
it will even say UPGRADE on it somewhere.

Bingo. It is an Upgrade CD.

I've been digging around and I can't seem to find the Office 97 discs
that I had. Any ideas?

None that you'll like. Time to buy a new version of Publisher.

Like your sense of humor but not your resolution.

All I really need to do is open a .pub file that someone sent me and
convert it to a .pdf. Any ideas on that one?

Yes, several of us can help you with that. I can't at this moment but if no
one else offers, let me know. Contact me offline and I'll gladly do that for
you. (I suspect others will offer to help you before I can access
Publisher.)

Send me the file and I will convert it. Do you have an old version of Works? It
is a qualifying upgrade version. Just about any early Microsoft program is a
qualifying product for Publisher 2000.

Thanks, JoAnn, but I will need to do this every month.

Mary,
Interesting idea. I'll have to dig around for an old version of Works.
I think it came with my old Gateway in 95 or 96.

I'll get back to you after lunch with the in-laws. yea.

I knew you'd be the one to offer. :-)

(Mary often offers to do this for posters but I didn't want to mention her
by name and then find out she was offline or up to her ears with something
else and feel put on the spot.)

Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to ask some neighbors to see if
they have any old works. I can't find mine - I'm starting to think
that I threw them out when we moved 2 years ago. I figured "I got
office, what do I need works for?"

Now, well, who'd thunk it?

I'm working on our HOA website. The person who writes our monthly
newsletter uses publisher. We want to be able to copy the articles
from the newsletter directly to the website, or generate a PDF from
Publisher to post to the website.

I prefer that we copy/paste the articles from the newsletter to the
website, however there are others who prefer to do it as a PDF.

I have a CD called Home Essentials which contains

Word 97
Encarta 98
Money 98
Works (no version on the label)
Greetings Workshop (no version on the label)
Puzzle Collection (no version on the label)
Explorer 3.02

If it will qualify for gradwnomny's Publisher upgrade she can have it.
