    - Split Task Hi I have a Project which contains a task which is 20 days long. 10 days into the 1st task, it is stopped while another task takes place for 5 days.     - Project 2003 on Server 2003 TS I have Office 2003 and Project 2003 installed on a Win 2003 server running Terminal Service in application mode. Office 2003 runs perfect, but Project 2003 not so much. Every time a user opens project through TS it starts a Windows installer and takes about 1 minute to finish and go away. I'm sure this is some kind of registry issue since it doesn't happen to user accounts with admin rights. I think it actualy might have to do with adobe because the very first time a new user opens Project it does the installer thing then bombs out with an error and when you open Project back up it tells you that the Adobe plugin didn't open correctly and would you like to disable it. Once you disable it Project still tries to install something each time but doesn't bomb out because of the adobe plug in. You are able to use Project, it is just annoying that everytime you open it this installer runs for about a minute. Any help to make that stop would be great.     - Saving to Project Server I have full admin privileges to project server 2007. I have the Projec 2007 pro client installed. I have the proper connection to the projec server from project client, yet I can't seem to figure out why I can' save to project server. The "save as" dialog shows no mechanism fo doing so, nor can I publish.     - Read only Gantt View in PWA for all team members Very new to Project but am having trouble figuring out the best way to do this. I would like to allow everyone involved in a project to have read access to the projects gantt view. As I understand it now, the individuals can see their tasks but not everyone elses.     - Here's a doozy I have a table of data. In column A, I have the names of tasks and in column B I have their expected finish dates.     - Best way to enter part time resources Dear all, I have a question, what the best way to enter part time resources is. Situation: I have one resource who is working 80% and we can be sure he never works on wednesdays. He has two major duties which are split 50% and 30%. I considered the following: a) I enter him as 100% and use the resource calendar to mark the wednesdays as non-working time b) I enter him as 80% (feels more right), leave the resource calendar untouched c) I enter him as 80% and mark his absence on wednesdays in the resource calendar.     - Help with understanding leveling... MS Project 2003 Hi I am sure there is something very simple here but I am unable to find it. In essence I have created a project with a number of start-finish tasks and these are allocated to resources (people). I have allocated (on the resource details window) 20% and 25% availability as these guiys have to work on other things concurrently. I didn't add any date constraints such as "must complete before" and thought that MS project would simply extend the duration of tasks to enable the required resources to work on them. But oh no - instead the tool seems intent on overcommitting all the resources by 300 even 400%. So I must be doing something fundamentally wrong - why won't project just extend the duration of the tasks? I entered my estimates for the work to be done in the "Work" column.     - Macro to import Resource Cost Data - again I know the question "How do I import resource costs into MS Project" has been asked multiple times in this group but I keep seeing people say you'll have to write a macro.     - New to MS Project Hi All, I am just after a little advice re MS Project. In fact I have 2 issues. The first is that I would like to add a custom cost field on the resource sheet. I currently have a standard rate field, and an overtime field. I have inserted a column and selected various different one, but to no avail. What I want to do is use the standard rate as the resource cost to my company, and have a second rate at which I charge a customer. For example in a consultancy role, my internal cost may be £100, but I may sell a days consultancy at £400. Another issue I am currently having is that I have recently attended a training course (I was obvioulsy not aware of these issue prior to the course!!!), and one of the instruction step by step sheets ask me to open a new project, click the Project Guide toolbar, and click the tasks button (which I CAN find), but it then asks me to select 'Define the Project' link, which I do not have avaialble. I am wondering whether I have some defualt settings set incorrectly. The next step it asks for is to select a date, then at the bottom of the 'SAVE YOUR PROJECT SIDE PANE' click SAVE AND GOTO STEP 2.     - summary projects in a top level paln Hope someone can help with this problem. I have created a new file gantt chart which I have inserted several other projects ( which have rolled up summary detail) This shows the top level summary bar with the rolled up detail for each project.     - How do I get rid of the available hours for the "unassigned" resou I have several projects and small tasks in corporate master project plan that do not have resources assigned (they are for information only). When I go to the Resource Usage tab, the items show up under the Unassigned. And it shows 40 hours of remaining availability for this "unassigned" resource. I've tried to edit "unassigned" to not be available, but MSP 2007 does not allow me to edit the availability. How do I remove this availability so those hours are not counted when I run Resource availability reports? It can add up to hundreds of hours when I run a report for a rolling three-month period. Kamran,
I assume you mean Project Server when you say "project central". If
that's what you mean, you will probably get a better response by posting
to our sister newsgroup, microsoft.public.project.server.

Generally speaking, it is not possible to "lock out" users from parts of
a project file. However, if what you have is a consolidated master, the
users will only be able to see their individual subprojects if they do
NOT have access to the master itself.
